Yep. BMI isn't perfect, but it's a reasonable tool for understanding population health and has proven to be a reliable predictor of mortality. It works reasonably well for most people.

Four pounds of body fat is roughly the size of a two liter bottle. Four pounds of muscle is about 80% of that size. If you're technically overweight and can't figure out where that would come from, it's probably not because you're built like Schwarzenegger, it's more likely because it's packed around your heart and liver.

The obesity percentages don't adjust for age. There are fat guys but they tend to be older and out of the dating game. But many prime age split-tails , even at high School level, are already porkers.

Americans have followed the advice from Government organizations to a tee,

food consumption in pounds and not by calories.
Fat has about twice the caloric value as do carbs.
So it`s really even more dramatic than indicated here.

Ketogenic will work great for weight loss, but I think being in full
ketosis for extended periods of time is a bad idea for some important reasons.
Better to fat adapted/fueled and to eat a lot of low to medium GI vegetables.

Although still quite different. When Men gain more weight, they do have a greater ratio of of Muscle to fat ratio. Although it still doesn't look sexy, they are gaining muscle with that weight. When women gain weight, it is far more muscle. At the same BMI, you can easily expect a woman to have 5% to 20% higher percentage points in body fat.

It can be beneficial for male athletes to have extra weight. Although for most guys, this isn't the rule of thumb.
