RE: I got BANNED from this RooshV Forum?!
What a storm! Let me clarify a few things.
1. To the extent my post suggested that the moderators have not been doing a good job, perish the thought! Apologies to any moderator who might have interpreted my question as criticism. In my profession we encourage young students to speak up. The flip side is that as a professor I am not used to people my students age telling me to hush or trying to shame me for not being here as long as they might consider sufficient! Frankly, it came across as bullying and I hate bullies (of any age). But I sincerely did not mean to be unappreciative. (Please note I am not using the term "sire" or anything similar now, because this time I mean it.)
2. Newbies or veterans cannot EVER contribute anything to ANY forum by NOT speaking! Every veteran except the founders themselves started as a newbie! If you can't respect that, I can't respect your thinking or your advice.
3. I appreciate the comment that it is bad etiquette to post such ideas instead of writing a moderator directly. Perhaps I should indeed not have posted that question (more on that below). But I would definitely never consider sending a message to a moderator about it, because it was not my intention to tell the moderators what to do. What I meant to do was discuss the issue in the forum.
4. I would not start a new thread without searching first if it was already discussed, but I think that given the huge size of the database now, if we have to search every little detail before posting a simple message in an existing thread, that would be onerous. In this particular case, however, I conducted a search now and found this very relevant thread.
/thread-27244.html .
It is true that had I done this search earlier I might not have posted the question.
5. In summary, sincere apologies if I offended anybody but no apologies for speaking. With all due respect, the purpose of membership is the ability to participate. I did not join in order to NOT speak.

I did not find anything there against a newbie expressing an idea about the site, as long as it is neither political nor race related. If I am not mistaken I am even allowed to comment about religion but that's a risk I won't take. Other than those forbidden subjects, how can I politely tell you to respect others' right for free speech?
Having said that, if, as a senior member, you would care to explain to me why reasons for banning should not be posted, I will listen with great interest. I appreciate that you are much more likely to know the answer than any newbie.

Suits, I don't give a rat's ass if you believe me or not when I say I am a professor. It will be sufficient if you believe that "real" professors are supposed to encourage their "newbie" students to talk.
To substance, there are some people who spoke about the exact same issue that you did, perhaps because you flagged it, and if you are capable of reading even when you are upset you will see that I listened to their similar advice. The difference is they did not come across as rude bullies.
Having said that, let's do a deal, Suits. You stop educating me and I will stop trying to educate you. I'm not a good teacher so I can't really help you and you are not likely to be able to help me either. Pity, because I have been a reader in this forum for much longer than I am a member, and I actually liked many of your posts, but I can no longer see them in the same light.

Guys, stop bullying Professor Sea Dog. Let's make this a safe space like his college campus where we can practise inclusiveness. It's really important that everyone can log on here and not risk having their feelings hurt.
And remember guys, this guy is a COLLEGE PROFESSOR. Can you think of anyone else on this forum who has a more impressive career, and has accomplished more in life than the good professor? I didn't think so, so let's just defer to his wisdom in the future - God knows you don't want him to "school" you like he just "schooled" Suits.

I like the professor's classy language. He' s like a chivilrous knight, saying things like "sire", and "perish the thought", and other flowery language.
I bet when he meets a charming young lass, he tips his fedora to her, and calls her milady.
Now that's real class. The rest of you ruffians could learn a thing or two from him.

No Sea Dog, here's a deal you're going to accept:
You're going to sit down, comment politely, and understand that you're at the lowest rung of opinion here.
Unlike a college class(which this isn't in the slightest), the people here have to earn their position by slowly adding value before they do what you did.
Secondly, in case you haven't noticed or been here long enough, your colleagues in higher education have cast your entire profession in a dim light. We do not hold your educational credentials in high regard for a multitude of reasons.
Finally, bullying ( or better yet vetting) is a healthy and acceptable social action to ensure cohesive unity amongst a group. Without bullying, you end up with soyboys running around thinking they're women.
If this is too difficult for you, you're welcome to go back to your safe space or ehem, ivory do nothing tower.

Nail on the head. Anyone who's saying those words is a fucking bitch who refuses to take responsibility for their own circumstances. It's an appeal to a "higher authority" to help them and make sure everything is "fair".
Anyone who expects life to be fair and is surprised when they find out that it isn't, that you're on your own, you've always been on your own, and always will be is a fucking idiot.
Just the phrasing ; "I'm being bullied" is telling in that they see it as something that's happening to them, as if they have no control over anything. On the one hand, it may be true, lets say you ARE being bullied.
You can either
1. Pick a fight
2. Cease to be around said person / situation
But what you don't do is whine to others about what's happening 'to you'.

I remember being about seven: the Schools P&T Association had complained about the water bills from children leaving the taps on the oval running, and their brilliant idea was for the groundskeeper to remove all the tap heads between waterings. Unfortunately, this left a four foot post with a blunt, but sharp enough, 'spear point', so when a bully lifted a kid over his head and threw him at it, it ended up impaling his thigh.
None of us could lift him off it, so when the teacher's came, I watched one of them had to put his hand inside the kid's leg to get him free, which was when Alice P. - always needing to be the centre of attention - threw up all over her school dress, and then acted like she was the one who needed urgent medical attention.
Nothing happened to the Bully beyond a week's suspension: everyone knew the Bully's dad had been in jail, and even the teachers were scared of him.
Compared to that, if raising a slightly-skeptical eyebrow coupled with some mild sarcasm is now considered 'bullying', then we're in trouble as a society.

Your flowery words fail to impress. Implying that suits can't read when he's upset is laughable when you yourself are having reading comprehension issues well before you even started spewing your nonsense. I'll highlight below some forum rules that you've violated:
Quote:3. Use the forum search engines before posting. Don't be lazy--poke around first before you start a new thread.
Quote:7. Defer to senior members, who help make the forum what it is. Don't come out guns blazing trying to start petty arguments with those who have been on the forum longer than you have. Take it easy for your first 200 posts until you get a feel for the flow of the community.
In addition, no professor worth his salt should encourage his newbie students to spout off as if they're a respected authority on a topic they know very little about. It would detract from both that student's and the rest of the class' learning.
