She did spend a lot of time lingering in her house when they were supposed to go the roadhouse, complaining about how she didn't feel like herself. What was an odd piece of dialog takes on more significance now, in retrospect.

Maybe it has something to do with the explosion in the bank (wasn't she supposed to be in a coma?)

Probably having to do with bank explosion. Btw, where do you think real Diane is, do you think she is dead for a long time?

The Secret History of Twin Peaks (book by Mark Frost) explained that Audrey was the only one to survive the bank explosion (season 2 finale). Not sure where the hell she is now.

That's a really good question- I didn't really think about it, but we have to assume that there was a 'real' Diane sometime. When she's describing evil Dale raping her and taking her to a 'gas station', he brought her to the convenience store roof and into the Black Lodge where she was killed or imprisoned in some way? Pure guess on my part, however.

We don't have to assume, we KNOW that there was real Diana. After all, tulpa in their universe is doppelganger of person that already exists, unlike ours.
Still I wonder how did major Briggs get decapitated and why did they put Ruth's head onto his body and who did that. Mr. C?

She may be trapped in the black lodge just like Cooper was. Now that the tulpa has gone back in, we may see her get out.

Yes- I belive Mr. C/Bob snuffed out Garland Briggs. Remember the ring they found during the autopsy? He was probably trying to frame Dougie.

My theory on that is that there was some kind of cosmic accident when Dougie was being transferred back to the black lodge and Matthew Lillards character was trying to contact Major Briggs.

I hear ya Sad
I kinda got depressed a bit with Cooper as well.....I'm not sure if because of the massive gap between seasons just seeing the actors from the show you grew up with (many I've never seen since until s03) much older.
Time is a bastard Sad
When Cooper woke up though I got a bit emotional hhahaha

I skipped over those scenes....I regret it now!

Despite having a better general idea about the story now (thanks to the guys on this board, by the way), there are many elements that still confuse me. Yes, why did they switch heads on the bodies? Remember the woman in Buenos Aires who activates that small mechanical device (which then shrivels up???!!) and is then killed? What was that all about? And all of the young kids at the roadhouse, who seem to be speaking in some kind of code.

I don't remember that woman. What episode was she in? There is something weird with the roadhouse, I agree with you there. They speak about events which are not connected at first glance in any way, but I think there is large synchronicity there which we don't currently see.

I just had to look it up- I believe she was in episode 5, but is murdered later by the dwarf (Ike the Spike) after dialing a phone number to 'activate' the device (I think??); or maybe evil Dale calls it during the scene in prison where he makes all the lights and alarms go crazy with his one phone call. Its tough to know its significance (aside from David Lynch's fascination with electricity and old fashion looking mechanical devices), though I suspect it is not crucial to the story.

RE: It is happening again - Twin Peaks back in 2016
I remember it now. Maybe it had to do something with the fact that evil Dale thought Philip Jeffries called him, but he didn't. So what we have here is impersonator who tried to stop evil Dale's advance in some way. Probably it is connected also with coordinates and how they are in fact traps that teleport to Black Lodge.

Its not coincidence that everything in series revolves around electricity. Electricity is connected to paranormal phenomena also in our world, so it makes sense for a Lynch as an knowledgeable occultist to implement that in story.

Great fun, loved all the small references to the odd scenes of the original seasons like Heidi giggling like a maniac in the cafe.
The lingering scenes, awkwardness and overall weirdness is still fully intact which is amazing.

Many of the scenes felt like nightmares, like the ones where actors just stared at each other for a while without saying anything. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that this show dabbles with occult themes given that Lynch is a huge meditation advocate, not to mention the shit he must have seen going on behind the scenes being involved in Hollywood.

Also, what's the deal with Lynch and bums. Mulholland drive alley scene anyone?

I've noticed that Lynch does this a lot- that characters will stare at each other for long periods of time, as if here is some significance to a particular glance, before one person says their line. And it will be followed by more pauses in response. Not only that, but the pauses are not filled with dramatic music or even silence, but more often than not a low level, industrial hum or some other mechanical noise (similar to "Eraserhead").

RE: It is happening again - Twin Peaks back in 2016
I was so mad yesterday night at the last scene. I literally had to stand up from my couch. After sitting on it I'm becoming more and more satisfied with the ending. We got a "real" ending on ep.17; ep.18 is just the past dictating the future, just not in the way we were expecting it too.

I could be mistaken anyhow, we'll see if some people with more time and imagination can come up with weird theories. One thing is sure, this has been the best experience I've ever had watching television.

RE: It is happening again - Twin Peaks back in 2016
About the ending, I think it's the usual Lynch thing about characters changing identities, and in Twin Peak's case, going back and forth in time. Cooper tried to save Laura from her death (by grabbing her after that meeting with James), and he succeeded for a moment (we saw the body wrapped in plastic disappear), but then she was grabbed from him, taken to another reality with a different identity. He followed her there, switching identity to Richard in the process (first scene of first episode).

When he tried to bring her home the house belonged to the Chalfonts, and Tremonds, two known 'black lodge' names. Laura seems to have woken up to something at the very end, not sure how to explain that and there might not be any real explanation.

I'm disappointed that we never got to confront Judy ('mother'), even though we saw she apparently took Laura under her wing in the alternative reality (she was waitressing at Judy's).

Showtime says they'll host another season if Lynch goes for it. Kyle MacLachlan is all for it. It's pretty much up to Lynch, hard to tell.

Overall this season had some great moments, and many poor scenes. In total, I personally enjoyed the ride and hope that there will be another season.

I honestly think much of this season was crap.

It was all about Lynch having some meta-fun at the expense of the audience. All kind of homages which make little sense to anyone but the most cinema savvy. Including the deliberate low tech, ugly special effects and their laughable presentation. Lynch is laughing at how much crap he can get away with.

4/10 - would definitely not watch again.

Didn't think it was possible, but episode 18 was more bizarre and alienating than the original series finale.

I can't say that it wasn't enjoyable or entertaining but, as is the case with everything touched by Lynch's signature brand of occult esotericism, I'm left coming away wondering what the fuck I just watched.

Interestingly, I get everything until episode 18. To me it seems that Cooper is now trapped in present year, but in alternate reality world where Laura didn't die and was called Carrie instead. Seems plausible as black lodge, being an astral realm can give you access to various worlds and timelines.
What I don't get at all how did Cooper and Diane know where to drive (430 miles). Did Jeffries told them? There was so much unanswered questions. Don't care about Roadhouse, but for example, what was really going on with Audrey, or Horne brother?

Possible explanation: everything we saw was actually snipped down version of series and maybe originally it had 20,21,22 or more episodes but Mark Frost and Sabrina Sutherland said to Lynch to cut it down. So it became rushed.

Yeah, in the lead up to Cooper asking that final question, I was just assuming that he and Diane had traveled to the doppleganger dimension and were unaware of exactly how it worked in terms of who's where and why. Now, after that final question, I'm beginning to wonder just how much more of the story was told from a shifted time perspective, and what was future, present, or past.
