Ok, here is my new member contribution, for those thinking about coming to the Philippines and Dumaguete specifically.

The City: It's a small provincial town, with a hypocritical but pervasive religious presence. Many churches of most all faiths, they all talk about God but their interpretation of God only goes so far, in many cases, as it is convenient for them.

It's a boring City, with several universities, but the universities here are more like high schools, they are not centers of high learning or research.

Lots of lousy restaurants with few good ones. No food inspection here, expect multiple cases of food poisoning. Prices are less than, say Mexico or most L.A. countries, but approach Western prices for the ocean front joints. Service usually sucks. Lots of fast food outlets that cannot keep main menu items in stock.

Ditto the hotels. Hotel prices are high here for the Philippines for a city of it's size. Prices for hotels and groceries are inflated due to the HUGE presence of foreigners here, mostly old, fat, ugly men who come here for cheap poon (they will deny it, but that's a fact). Hotel standards are low, they don't upkeep on maintenance. Prices for hotels range from 400php all the way up to 2-4000php (exchange is now at a all time high, thanks to Trump at 51 to the USD).

Nightlife is little to none. One disco that plays deafening loud "music" in a smoke filled environment with bad service. Other bars and minor establishments that are unsafe for foreigners-one killed and one injured in the last few years.

Medical care here is poor. You get hit on the head and you are dead-no neurosurgeons, MRI, etc. Ignorant doctors with attitudes-they want you to agree to everything they do with no questions.

Ok, not the important stuff, "nightlife" etc. This is not a town to find a woman. The women available to foreigners here, especially if your over 60 and to a lesser extent ALL ages, are the lower class, not as attractive girls, working girls or not. The line between working girls and "regular" girls is blurred here despite their supposed religiosity. Upscale, educated Filipinas, under 25, do not want foreigners, by and large. They are looking for educated, successful Filipino guys and are quite Westernized in this respect, except they won't treat you like CR*p for approaching or engaging them. Much more polite than in USA.

Very few young good looking foreigner men here and the ones that are usually bring a woman with them. Lots of prostitutes and "semi-pros". If you're into that scene it is CHEAP, CHEAP, but the quality is POOR, POOR. The women here simply do not know how to F**K. And there are a lot of FAT, flabby women here. Once they have a kid, which is usually the case above 20 years of age, forget about a tight body in most cases. You won't see this on cam, as the cam girls are being paid to try to get you to send them money and are much more attractive than what you get when you land here.

You can get laid here easily, but they often expect you to pay. Does not matter,it's a pittance. But you will gradually lose interest as you find the women here are clumsy and unwilling in bed. BJs are not the norm here. There are exceptions but I am talking generally and I have bedded a LOT of women in the 5+ years I have lived here.

Ok that's enough for my first post. I will see how it goes here and possibly post additional info on this and other parts of the R.P and Mexico depending on the nature of this forum (I rarely post to forums, but this one seems to have some intelligent guys here).

In any event, Dumaguete is not Cebu or Davao, and so one needs to adjust their expectations accordingly. You also did not list your age. One expat in the Phils thread stated that gaming is more difficult there if you are in your twenties versus say 30s, which I imagine girls look for as far as financial stability goes. 40s is even better.

I took a peek at the university via Google. Looks like if you are into 18 year olds then it would not be a problem at all. High 6's and 7s even with bad game. White western faces go far there, but farther if you are above 30 and even a rudimentary knowledge of game.

Funny data sheet, when I visited Dumaguete five years ago, I loved it and most of the other RVF guys I know who go quite like it. Obviously its a small town so not comparable to a place like Cebu but this data sheet seems overly negative, plus there's no mention of the surrounding areas like Apo Island, Siquijor, Dauin, Valencia, etc which are really nice spots (beaches, waterfalls, diving, etc).

For the guy who cannot read, I was thanking Trump for the 51 pesos to the dollar. For the rest of you I live here and have for the last 5 years. I have been to Cebu and Manila and other places. Dumaguete is a one horse town. If you grew up in a small town in the USA and have never been anywhere you will like it. I'm from a big City. Dumaguete is ok if you BYOG, but if you don't it's not. Cebu is much better for women. And I'm not promoting anything. Take the info if you want and if you don't I could care less.

You were here 5 years ago, as you say. That is about the time I first arrived. Dumaguete has changed a LOT since then. All of the replies to my information "data" post are from guys that have little or no experience living here. It's one thing to come for a few days as a tourist and quite another to live here. I did not mention all of the places you list as I am NOT a TOURIST. I do not travel for those reasons. But you're correct there are nice places to see and most are tourist traps with prices inflated commensurate. They even charge foreigners higher prices than locals at some of them as their is blatant, legally coded discrimination against foreigners here, it's accepted, because "we are all rich".

Normally I side with the newbie due to the juvenile way some people here treat newcomers, calling them faggots and pressing their buttons knowing they can get away with it. Rightfully, a lot of people here should be banned for being resident trolls.

Im here in Duma for almost 1 year. Theres some layer of truth to what he says but at the same time there's more falsehood. Its so fucking easy to live in Duma because its a good size and (the surrounding little cities flood in so to speak) and way better than living in C-Poo. The city of gentle people has treated me very well and you can actually find some comforts here like homemade yogurt probiotics which is very hard 2 find outside Manila/C-poo.


Not to mention you are MUCH closer 2 nature while still getting your city fix in ESP. if you work online dumb dumb. In that respect its amazing.

But yes it is changing by the month and locals are having foreigner fatigue possibly and I dont think its as easy as many cities to find a wife but still do-able for certain niches.

edit/ --- have never had food poisoning because I use my 5 senses when I look for food to eat. There are good spots to eat if you seek them out. Duma used to be a much poorer city so a large population knows where the cheap good stuff is.

I have gotton sick a ton because in general philippine cities are atrociously dirty with open sewage, trash, smoke filled and bull shit. BUTTTTT as far as CITIES go DUMA is top because it has these problems on much smaller scales compared to the big boys.

Also I think they are finally building a 1st class hospital right now but ya hes right for brain injuries and amputation/ saving limbs from amputation you are fucked here. WEAR HELMET

In OP's defense, I'm not sure he stayed in Dumaguete for 5 years. He said he's in the Philippines for 5 years, and mentioned staying in Manila and Cebu.

I often wonder, they were colonized by Spain of all countries. You'd think they'd have some nice architecture (as in ordinary buildings) and quality cities with plazas, palm trees along the streets, etc. They don't like building cities near beaches or mountains either, so there's nothing nice to look at in the distance. It's like they have no sense of aesthetics. Didn't they learn anything?

The way I read OP he's an older guy that came to the Philippines thinking it would welcome him with open arms and the Filipinas would love him for being him. 5 years later he realises they just want his money (his SMV is probably low) and he's grown salty. I also wouldn't be surprised if he tried to save a (cam)hoe.
