Interestingly, atomic weapons have HUGE connection with occult and as I said before, Lynch having open eyes wanted to present this to us with his language, i.e. "twilight language". In book "secret history of the twin peaks", we even see Jack Parsons and his occult/science life, a very important thing to realize about the world. Lynch wants to present us that science works with the occult and that you can dabble in "black magic" and at the same time solve differential equations.
In some way, I think we will get explanation that Box in NY flat is science experiment done to trap and observe paranormal, which is this connection I am talking about.

Thanks. That's kind of what I'm getting from it too- Lynch purposely conflates science, particularly high energy physics experiments, with the occult, or at the very least the ability to tap into and even transport into the purple ocean-world of the giant. At its core the plot isn't overly complicated (good humans fighting evil aliens/demons) but the excessive number of characters and painstakingly slow exposition required for everyone's backstory makes it difficult to follow (I'm still sorting out Tina, Billy, and the stuff that the annoying girls talk about at the end of this episode and last, while drinking beer at the Roadhouse).

Yes, it's bad enough trying to keep all the characters straight (especially the minor ones, and people from Fire Walk with Me (which I confess to not having seen in a while)), but there are some that haven't even appeared on camera who likely are important. Like Billy, who people are talking about and Audrey is dreaming about. And what about Sky Ferreira (and her rash), and all the high school kids at the Roadhouse? I can't quite understand what they are talking about but I'm sure there are some important clues in there.

Which side stories do you mean, Malo, if you don't mind me asking? I have assumed up to this point that all plot lines will cross before the end of the season and are therefore all relevant (with the exception of some of the domestic scenes with Lucy and Andy and their annoying son who thankfully hasn't shown up in a while).

After watching last night's episode I kind of think I know what you mean. For example, the whole Ed, Nadine, Norma love triangle, which was a remnant of the older, more soap opera elements of the original show. As nice as it was to see something good finally happen to Ed, this storyline has nothing to do with the main story, and never did. Even James doesnt have much importance this time around (he's also a real soap opera-ish character and always annoyed me a little with his good-guy, doe-eyed stare. He's also about as beta as can be).

Thankfully, they have really limited such stories this time around, with the majority of the scenes driving the main plot forward.

Twin Peaks is more than the one big mysterious plot. It is the daily lives of the minor characters and their decisions on how to act, it is the ridiculousness of its humor, it is the long shots where you can appreciate the many details and general atmosphere...I personally enjoy it all.

Haven't seen the latest one yet. Many fans enjoy every moment, and that's fine, I'm happy for them. I was a huge fan of the original, but even there I found season 2 to be very lacking outside the main 'black lodge' plot.

It's ok for me to enjoy a series while skipping the boring parts.. I loved Breaking Bad for example, but every single time I saw Skyler's face, I fast forwarded until she was off the screen. Sure I missed out on a few good moments, but I'm ok with that

I half agree- the original show was "more than the one big mysterious plot"- we tend to forget that the Laura storyline was a foundation for what was essentially a prime time soap revealing all the weird and sometimes illegal/depraved stuff seemingly normal small town America is up to. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, a few copycat shows then popped up around the same time based upon that same premise.

However, once they revealed Bob, that foundation crumbled and Lynch's heavy-handedness, which works so well for weird and violent sci-fi - style horror, was terribly unsuited for melodrama, hence the crappy stories (James and that older woman and her husband; Andy and Richard and Little Nicky, etc.). There were also immature attempts at comedy (when Ben and Audrey became 'good', Dick is bitten by a pine weasel, and Squiggy became a semi-regular character, for example) although to be fair Lynch and Frost had checked out for most of that season. This season has kept stuff like that to a minimum.

Finally we see convenience store and I love how they explained how someone could live above it. Simply, up the stairs is portal to some part of black lodge, same part that Laura sees in fire walk with me. Also, it seems that PJ become tea kettle that blows smoke. That is the weirdest thing I saw.
I am still waiting for explanation how PJ in 1989 knew about doppelganger because he pointed at Cooper in FBI office and asked "who you think that is?"

He knows because they can travel between future and past:

"is it future, or is it past?"

"the good dale is in the lodge and he can't leave, write it in your diary" (way before Laura was murdered and dale entered the lodge)

major Briggs traveled back and forth, predicted future events to the tee (left instructions for bobby)

and of course "i'll see you again in 25 years".

I had a love-hate relationship with the show back in the day, and, since I've had more downtime than usual the last few days, I caught up with the new series.

I always saw the original run as three shows:

- Show 1: It's a very good, subversive Noir up until the Death of Laura's Killer, where the majority of characters instantly-lose all mystery and, therefore, any further reason to intrigue the viewer unless you're into Pure Soap Opera.

- Show 2: Everything after that Death is the 'Mainstream's Idea of Edgy' - that bland favoured state that record companies used to request from musicians back in the day to be 'pop but a little punky'. For almost half of its run, TP is one of the worst shows that ever existed, and this safer vibe was spun off into shows like "Northern Exposure" and "Picket Fences".

- Show 3: The last episode of the series, and 'Fire Walk With Me', where the focus has become Supernatural, and much more interesting.

Because PJ was everywhere and nowhere in the Lodge, experiencing past and future simultaneously.

As Malo pointed out: remember Laura's vision of Annie in bed next to her speaking to her after the events of Season 2 in 'Fire Walk With Me', which is forty days in the future from Laura's viewpoint? The pages she wrote in the diary after the event were what Hawk discovered in the bathroom earlier this season.

As the Angel descends to Laura at the end of the movie, Cooper is there with his hand on her shoulder, a few days before he starts investigating her death.

I always found this 'time loop' aspect added an extra layer of interest to events, and you can see this play out with conversations and scenes sometimes repeating.

This is why, after three episodes of - functionally - the same scene, I have to wonder exactly where and when Audrey is, because, despite time moving on for the other characters, Audrey is still stuck in the same argument on the same night. As, she stood arguing with her husband on the threshold in the last episode, it was like you could sense her own confusion in the matter: why can't she just open the door and drive herself to the roadhouse?

Is it possible that the scene we saw at the Roadhouse with the White Trash Chorus discussing a Billy after Audrey's first scene in the series was misdirection, and Audrey is still in the coma the bomb in Season 2 left her in, (since it's implied in the book that Dark Coop 'visited' her before he vanished, and, given her Son, you could assume he raped her).

Remember, 'Annie' was a ringer based upon on-set jealousy, and not Lynch and Frost's original intention of Earle taking Audrey to the Lodge. Which meant neither Audrey or Coop would have confronted the Lodge with a pure spirit, trapping both their souls there: hence the mean, bitter, dislocated / confused Audrey we're seeing.

Or, it could just be Lynch being Lynch and it's all nothing. This ability to speculate is why I enjoy him.

I liked the fact that the black lodge and its implications is more prominent in the 2nd season. The soap operaish aspects of the 1st season was really wearisome after being initially funny.

Also the actor for Laura Palmer. Goddamn. The years weren't friendly.

Also Catatonic Agent Cooper is my favorite character. Always looked forward to scenes involving him.
