One of the many risks of marriage is being potentially liable for the debt of the girl.

It looks like in the US, the following states are "common property" states:
Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin
This means that most debts taken on by either spouse during the marriage is owed by both spouses.

The rest of the states are "common law" states, where the debt is generally separate, and income also does not become jointly owned.

For those that got married in the US, was that a consideration at all in deciding which state you got married in?

It doesn't matter as much as you'd think, because whichever state you married in will have no say in the actions of the courts of the state you divorce in. If you have enough assets to justify her waging a court battle, you have enough assets to justify her planning in advance to play games with jurisdiction.

Consult an attorney before getting married.

Don't get married.
