There was a thread about a British dude who got rejected entrance to the US because he posted on Twitter that he was going to "destroy America" and some other comments which were obviously meant he was coming here to party.

It got me thinking, is Facebook monitored in a similar way and would posting pictures from Cuba, or talking about being in/going to Cuba on Facebook cause you problems? I'm a US citizen, obviously. Would be terrible to get your passport yanked or somethin crazy for posting pics on Facebook.

I'm sure it's best to NOT post on Facebook about "illegal" activity, was just curious if anyone has heard of or knows someone who experienced anything like this?

Thing is, I'm pretty sure it's not illegal to actually go to Cuba, I think it's illegal to spend money there. If that's correct, maybe they can try and give you a hard time about it, but all you have to say is you didn't spend any money there and that a friend of yours paid for everything. They really have no way of proving it unless they find receipts from Cuba. I've also read that they don't stamp American citizens passports when they roll to Cuba.

But Cuba does get an increasing number of solo travelers. From the U.S., that includes people who qualify for general licenses (journalists, academics, people with religious purposes and those with "close relatives" in Cuba, which is the vast majority of U.S. residents who travel to Cuba); they can go as easily as drawing up an itinerary, signing an affidavit through a Travel Service Provider (there are dozens, mostly in Florida) and swearing they'll keep to it. Those travelers do not need to interact with the Treasury Department.

I'm sure many can qualify under the "journalist" role in this age on new online media and go to a travel service provider in Florida and get one of those affidavits.

I've been to Cuba quite a few times. I don't think the Obama admin even provides money in the budget to prosecute any treasury violations from there. If you're caught it could be a fine up to 10K. I was coming back one trip and the two ladies in front me told immigration they were coming back from Cuba. They said they went there for a music festival and the immigration guy just said "welcome back".

Keep in mind that if/when Obama is replaced with a new administration this could all change. Under Bush they would actively look for people getting off the HAV - NAS flight and then walking to the US Customs line.
