I am trying to move to LA this year. I am into fashion so I'd like to live around artists or hipsters Can I find a studio or 1 bed apt (350sf should be enough) in Silver lake, Melrose area for $1000 a month? I know WeHo is out of the picture. I will be looking into south side of Hollywood towards K-town if I can't find it.

0 lays in 7 months for someone in their 20s or 30s? Completely unacceptable, unless by choice.
I find it ironic that the poster who started the L.A. thread no longer lives in L.A. That should tell you a lot.

Unless you were born and raised in L.A. and have family links there or your career forces you to be there, I dont see how a young single man would choose to be there unless you are the top 15% in looks and/or extroversion. Either that or just be content to date down.

You can rent a room for that much but living on your own in that area for $1000 doesn't look likely, no matter how small the place. Can possibly luck out if you find an unpermitted backhouse.

I think a lot of women cleared out of LA for the holiday weekend. I know for sure two of my number closes from last week did and same for my wing.

Friday went out in Hollywood. Mapped out some clubs and walked around for two hours.

Started off at midnight. Rocked up to all the high end clubs south of the blvd off Cuengha. Was well dressed and confident. Bouncers were polite and professional. Two said guestlist only tonight. Asked if they knew my friend Benjamin. They said sorry no it's guestlist only.

Looked like one place was having a white party. The chicks outside were slamming. Opened a few sets but felt awkward not being warmed up and declining to go back in with them. Walked for awhile with two smoke shows but there was no way they are going back to my grungy van dressed in immaculate white!

Two other clubs door said guestlist only or $40 cover. By then it was 12:30. No lines out front of the $40 cover places. Figured not worth it. Wanted to check out other spots.

Tried a couple bars. The well was dead. The W hotel slightly better. Got blown out by a chunky ugly Mexican. Slightly better with two Korean American girls. I really have to get out of traveler mode. Used to igoing direct and introducing myself. Asking where they are from. Ethnic chicks in LA be like: where do I look like I'm from? I guess they hate being seen as Asian, Hispanic, etc. To me it's just small talk convo that leads right into logistics. Too many bad reactions...

Found some $20 covers on the blvd. Getting late so one was even $10 before the doors closed at one. Avalon was open way late for a $27 cover. Went back there last night Saturday after hours for $32. It was total shit. Mostly 6-7 asians and tattooed white girls. Lots of smoke.

Sound factory was supposedly open until 4. Saw some decent chicks coming out. There's 3 dive bars off Las palmas. A bit ghetto with blacks and latinas. Cheap $3 tecates.

Slept in my van. The 24 hour fitness in hollywood is a dump. Weird hours too.

Saturday night met some friends from Sam Fran. My buddy is sick of living up there and moving to LA. Gets to keep his San Fran salary and dial in most meetings. Says girls up there suck and LA is so much better by comparison. He loves bumble. Sets up weekend dates. Usually smashes on day two or three (week two or three).

Wing girl in the group gets them out in silver lake. I'm like uh you know that's a gay neighborhood and hipster. The girls aren't going to be hot like WeHo. Of course when I show up they're pissed and we leave after one drink.

They uber to edison downtown. Won't let my buddy in bc of vneck tee. Now getting annoyed moving my van all over town so late. Find a parking a spot downtown weekends is doable. I'm always making sure I don't have to move it early. Most spots are weekend exempt thankfully.

We try standard and line is too long. Not making it in by 1. Our bribes fall on deaf ears. Fuck.

We walk to perch. Only 2 two sets to open. First gets grabbed by white party douches before I get back with my wing. Second set the cute one has a pissed of loom on her face before we even open. I sayvhave a good night and turn back to my group. They walk off.

They come back and reengage me asking why I'd asked where they were from blah blah. I'm like huh? They're like that's racist shit blah blah. Ugly one is obviously interested. I'm flirting and turning it around. Our wing woman is from LA and having none of it. Cuts in front of me and is like listen bitch!...

I'm rolling my eyes. Ive watched this chick slap someone every night. Bouncer and manager come over. We move up to the roof and run into some people we know.

A guy in our group picks up a couple girls. One has a cute face but too thick for me. The other looks pregnant. We waste the closing street game getting them into an uber. Had to fend off two other sets of guys trying to peel them off. I was like really? You want these chicks? I don't even want them...

We hit Avalon and it's crap. The pregnant girls attitude is good and she's not playing hard to get. The thick one is standoffish with a mouth.

I do a few laps and open a few sets. Nothing worthwhile. A couple tattooed freaks try to give me shot for a direct approach. Say have a good night and she's like wait trying to grab my arm. I guess I'm ruined by Asia.

On the street run into a few more guys we know. Now a sausage fest and we just look pathetic. My one friend is still trying to get his thick girl to meet him outside. A dealer is called and there's talk of a strip club. I have no problem admitting defeat and uber back to my van at 5am.

I'm always telling these guys you can't sleep past 8-9am in a van. It gets too hot. Still managed to sleep till 3pm. Wrecked.

My buddy is always insisting we had a wild epic night. Most times I'm feeling it wasn't even all the fun. Even if we pulled. The girls aren't worth it.

I think LA can be good of you mine online for dates and have a week 2-3 model for getting the bang. As well you also need to pick ONE area and get it on lock with an AFTER PARTY at your house. Alcohol and blow are all that's needed. Also lower your standards.

Why are Asian Americans in particular upset by the question, "Where are you from?" and the frequent followup "Where are you really from?

Because more than anything, that series of questions reveals that the questioner is still in that naive because they can be headspace of being relatively clueless about handling discussions about Asian American identity.

Since you're reading this, maybe you want to be able to ask without coming across as bothersome. So what can you do instead? Try this:

"Hey, so what's your heritage? I'm [insert own heritage here]."

See? That one is actually a cross cultural exchange. But please don't say "I'm American." Because if you do, I and others are entirely justified in responding, "Well, I'm American, too." And you'll be back on that merry-go-round that we were trying to avoid.

If you have to, say, "My family's been in the US for so long we're not sure where in Europe and anywhere else we came from." Maybe the person you're asking has a complicated background, too.

And finally -- be prepared to be shot down. You're no more entitled to this information than you are to someone's phone number. Expecting non-white people to be your involuntary entertainment ... sounds kind of colonialist, doesn't it?

It's better to ask "are you from LA or are you visiting from out of town?" or something similar.

LA has gotten tougher in the last 5-6 months or so. Not sure why. Matches are down across all apps and responses are harder to come by. Pics, openers, physique, game, all have to be on point or you don't stand a chance. Still putting in work but focusing on other projects until business starts picking up again.

You often get the "de donde eres?" in L.A., but only if they already suspect you are Latino and are trying to figure out which country you are repping.

Also, in L.A. ethnic urban neighborhoods, "where you from?" means what gang do you belong to?

In general I would avoid the "where are you from" line with ethnic girls in California, especially post-Trump. Californians are probably more sensitive to it then in other states.

Yeah it was blvd3 or Warwick maybe? Some hot girls out front. Kinda pointless running street game there unless you've got an after party to whisk them to.

I don't even bother number closing and texting girls because they always want to know he long I'm in LA. Sometimes I stick around 2-3 weeks, but I'm moving all around the city in my van. So setting up a date for a specific night never works out.

A few years ago I had better luck with tinder. I could set up dates a day or two in advance. Even bang them in my van. Played up the surfer angle.

Let's be honest guys. Women are snobbier than other small cities in LA so as other Men. I am trying to move to LA and what I am worried about is not meeting women

but dealing with other successful or just rich guys. I was a small business owner and I never felt insecure about what I do when I was meeting random dude in my city.

But LA is a totally different game.

If you are having hard time connecting with those important guys, then obviously you will have a problem going after women who hang out with them.

My cousin moved to LA (SilverLake) from Alabama 2 years ago. He makes about 18,000 Gs a year (I did his taxes), has no car, always broke but still pulls women just about every other week when he tries. He's a very geninue person, very confident in himself and runs the interaction with women.

My other cousin has lived in LA (Echo Park) his entire life. He's Celebrity/ Social Media Influencer who's surrounded by baddies 8s and up constantly, 2016 BMW and new clothes but hasn't gotten laid in 18 months. Worrys to much about what other people think and follows and mimics every trend.

LA is and extreme so it's best when you have an extreme trait or characteristic going for yourself i.e. (Looks/Charisma/ Personality/ Money/Connections)

I just saw this story, looks like the assembly still has to vote for it in September at the earliest and the Governer has veto power, so don't bust out the champagne just yet. Each individual municipality can then decide if they want to extend things or not. But 2018 could be the year California cities have a normal last call, along with the recreational Marijuana laws.

Hopefully it gets passed for the sake of the people here but the nightmarish combination of horrific ratios, flakage, and logistics (traffic and sprawl) will remain unchanged.

As I've said before, I see 6'3 male model looking guys going home empty-handed night after night. Koreatown, Little Armenia, North Hollywood. All have gone up in price the past few years though. Part of it is the tech invasion, although the football teams have probably had some influence as well.

Even a studio in the ghetto parts of the valley (far from nightlife unless you're into dive bars which can be fun) is going to run you about 900, and it's going to be small with no kitchenette.

If you end up finding cool roommates that helps, although it's not easy, and a lot of people are looking for female only.

Visiting is different though. Like if I'm visiting a city I have free time, no stress, and plan to go out and spend money. When you're living somewhere you're usually caught up in the mundane of life.

Like, when you live in an area you're not focused on going out and getting bitches you're focused on making money, hitting the gym, getting up at 6am to commute to work, doing laundry etc. It comes down to lifestyle I think.

I think it's hard for the average guy who works 9-5 and isn't balling and is trying to establish himself to live a true player lifestyle.

I'm actually about to pull way the fuck back on drinking and women and focus on completing my degree and getting my credit up so I can "level up". Like I'm talking for the next year I will not really focus on game because sometimes that's what it takes. When I get to that next level of my lifestyle I can go back to game but right now women are a distraction.

Just speaking for me though as I had an epiphany a couple weeks ago and am going through a spiritual and mental transformation right now.

you gotta focus on neighborhoods if you want that. walkable neighborhoods with their own bubble of nightlife and stores, transportation, etc.

Downtown Long Beach is my home base until I escape California. Cheap rent and good vibes.

Palms neighborhood of Culver City would be my 2nd choice.

Then you have Venice/Santa Monica area. Another option is Koreatown. West Hollywood is also an option as is downtown.

I mean depending on who YOU are, your vibe/persona, your lifestyle, there's different options. Like, if I was a surfer white guy I'd probably favor Venice/Santa Monica. If I worked in the entertainment industry I'd favor West Hollywood. LA is so sprawling you have to focus on a single neighborhood/area and it's best to maximize it towards your strengths and weaknesses.

Either that or live close as possible to the night spots you will frequent if you like night game or live close as possible to your job for better commutes and on weekends you deal with the distance for night game.

North Hollywood is great. Lots of bars nearby, walkable grocery stores, and a healthy mix of young and old timer.

Plus you have the last subway stop on the red line which will take you into downtown in 20 minutes.

But why are you trying to get away without having a car? Los Angeles is a car city and to be blunt is only fully enjoyable with one.

If it's the cucked attitude of, "i'm too lazy/inept to take care of a car because i have no money" then Los Angeles isn't for you
