This cartoon is ridiculous and can't be taken seriously.

RE: United Airlines PR fiasco - police forcibly remove man from overbooked flight
Not sure if it was mentioned already but the MSM went all out on United not too long ago over "dress code", remember that? Some friends/relatives of United employees were bumming off their benefits and flying non-rev and were wearing tights and got kicked off. It's all part of the rules; there's a dress code if you're travelling non-rev and it's business casual ish. But that didn't matter, it was turned into a huge media story directed against the company.
Now this - granted someone being injured made it inevitable that it would end up on world news but geez, it's like someone up high has it out for United. I wouldn't blame them though, after dealing with so many rude fag flight attendants I don't really mind the bad wrap they're getting .
But back to the story at hand, UA followed the rules and this guy broke the law (yeah, like the federal law), it's as simple as that. Picking people at random was a bad idea, but probably the only option since it's "fair." Excellent example of the application of game, this guy was apparently somewhat fucked up in the head/unstable and/or probably didn't speak great Engrish, anyone one of us here would be able to tell that he wouldn't be a good pick. 3 other people got off the plane with no issue.
Now what I'm wondering about is why the media is blowing it up and directing it so virulently against the company. Because cops were involved? I saw a blip on CNN where a passenger was explaining what was happening and he explained that the UA employees and the cops gave the guy plenty of chances. Then that mother fucker Don Lemon starts interrupting this guy saying "YOU THOUGHT IT WAS ACCEPTABLE?!" That son of a bitch gets on my nerves. Anyway, just my $0.02.

Compared to who? Even with ignoring this incident? North American Airlines are consistently the lowest quality and nickle and diming-y ones in the world. I just can't fathom how anyone who's flown a wide sampling of airlines around the world would regard flying on a NA carrier as anything more than a chore.
http://www.worldairlineawards.com/awards...ating.html
Air Canada was the highest north American one coming in at #31, United was at #68 alongside other well known gems like Azerbaijan Airways, and Air Seychelles.
Even super discounter Air Asia was #23 but at least there, you can pay next to nothing, and you expect no frills. Or you can pay the equivalent or less of a NA economy fare on Asian or middle east carriers and get a full menu, hot towel, free drinks, and individual TVs. I (only) once flew DEN-HKG on UA and it didn't even offer a meal or have any functioning TVs. US lounges are garbage, staff aren't helpful, North American carriers have perfected the combo of no frills service, combined with full service pricing.
The biggest differentiation with airlines is the quality of passengers. Average Americans are overweight, obnoxious, and rude so of course our airlines suck. Move up to Economy plus seating in United and it's far better than Air Canada if only because you get away from the people that belong in a zoo.

In this thread I learned that airlines wouldn't suck if only rich people were allowed to fly on them.

You'd simply have a better ability to contest what they did in court and possibly get greater damages than the standard compensation they offered you under what they claimed was happening..
Um, they do give up their right to kick you off if you're not breaching any of the terms of of the contract that allows you passage onto the plane. That's sort of the whole point of money exchanging hands and all that. It's what we call an implied term of the contract, same as how a landlord gives up his right to kick his way into a tenant's residence whenever he likes it: look it up, it's called the tenant's right to 'quiet enjoyment' of the lease.
I suppose he should have simply ran off the plane down to a courthouse and filed an injunction preventing the plane's takeoff before the issue could be resolved before a court of competent jurisdction and if necessary finish out the appellate process all the way up to a hearing in front of Gorsuch et. al.?

No. Airplanes aren't housing which have special laws associated with tenancy - laws that vary state to state, even city to city. The FAA regulations that apply to airlines are very clear.
Why the hell would I look up "tenant" rights? Was United leasing this guy an apartment? Instead, how about you go look up the FAA regulations.
If someone sells you a service under civil law and fails to provide it your recourse is to sue them -- not to trespass until they fulfill the terms.

You don't have to be rich to fly enough to get free economy plus. It's like three overseas round-trips a year. That being said -- airlines probably would suck less if only rich people flew on them. Ever seen the price of a Concord flight back in the day or read about what it was like? Ever flew Business class? It does suck a lot less... Isn't this a site about speaking real truths instead of PC bullshit?
Airlines would probably suck less if the flight attendants were hotter, the seats were wider, the food was better, etc etc
In other words - water is wet.

RE: United Airlines PR fiasco - police forcibly remove man from overbooked flight
< Defending this incident is utterly mad.
This issue would have been resolved with common sense in most civilized countries.
Can you imagine German cops roughing up a passenger like that?
Heck - German cops would have balked at this, they would have first asked the crew what is going on. Afterwards they would have said that the crew has to pick someone else for leaving, because obviously the gentleman is not going to move without force and applying force in that situation is not adequate.
But here you have a wonderful combination of corporate detachment coupled with mindless police brutality in the post 9/11 Big Brother world.
The land of the free - my ass.

Excuse me Mr. Alpha Sperg sir,
The airline did not have a legitimate reason to take his seat and did not meet the guidelines in order to do so, and in fact attempted to falsify the reason at the time of the incident and also after the fact.
This is a textbook case of what not to do even when the airlines meet the requirements but now it looks like they called in a false report after inciting a passenger and trying to take his seat under false pretenses.
I just recently stopped talking to another aspergers guy who constantly has to have shit spelled put for him so I can see the symptoms. He also likes to talk about how "alpha" he is.

Didn't say they were. It's called an analogy.
(04-11-2017 03:59 AM)achromaticmike Wrote: The FAA regulations that apply to airlines are very clear.
Okay, specify for me the one that applies here. From my brief look at the regs, the right to remove a passenger only seems to happen if they're interfering with the lawful duties of a crewmember or breaking safety regulations.
Neither apply in this instance: the crewmembers were not conducting their duties, the plane was not overbooked and the demand to leave was not lawful. The guy was not threatening, assaulting, or intimidating the crewmember. What breach of regs do you say he was guilty of that empowered the crewmember to throw him off the plane?
Breaking the contract of carriage is not a part of a crewmember's duties. I'm sure the assholes who removed him would say it's part of their "duties", but not everything that happens on an airplane is part of a crewmember's duties. Your resort to the FARs is not valid as far as I can see.

RE: United Airlines PR fiasco - police forcibly remove man from overbooked flight
There was a time when I was flying 2 two times a week. One to the site I had a contract with and later that week to home. I was mainly flying on United since I racked up a ton of points on my international travels and wanted to keep adding to them.
I never got bumped. There were many times they asked but I was lucky. If I was randomly chosen to be removed I would have left (maybe I should have waited for a bloody nose in order to get a nice settlement).
Being bumped would have killed my entire weekend since I was flying out on a Friday and returning to work on Sundy. My weekend is worth more than $800.
If that happened, I would have never flown with United again. Two flights a week for several years would have been paid to another airline.
Businesses will always stack the cards against their customers. The whole right versus wrong thing is a bogus argument. Contracts are only good if they are enforceable. We will see how good United's contracts are if this guy takes them to court.
The CEO screwed up by not sticking to his apology and letting this die down. Now he came back and fired up everyone that has seen the pictures and videos of a old man being dragged off. It always come down to loss of money for these corporations. Corporations, for the most part, don't do what is right because it is right, it is because it is good for business. .
As a business owner, there is no way I could have treated a customer like that. I have went against my own policies when it was reasonably warranted.
