I will admit that the first line of my earlier post could have had a bit more personal diggings than necessary. My excuse is that I get a little bit excited when the price starts to move in either direction and my orders begin to fill.... especially since I had not had too many buy orders filling in the past several weeks... because we had been going UP , UP and UP. finally the little correction in price is refreshing to recharge some bitcoin holdings.

Anyhow, for those interested in possible FUD news about bitcoin, and stupid-ass Craig Wright, below is a piece describing that one bitcoin company that he was involved in sold for a sizeable amount (apparently in the $300 million territory)...

Don't know if some of the details are true or important in the bitcoin space, but thought that I would post it anyhow in order to show that sometimes I am willing to post about some of the crazy-ass mainstream bitcoin news convolutions.

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/13/company-b...stors.html

It remains interesting to me when you see some of the misleading blurbs that call him the creator of bitcoin and then say that it is controversial and blah blah blah.. convolution.

How is that interesting or new?

Ver is whining about the same things that he has been saying for a couple of years now, and suggesting that bitcoin is broken and trying to proclaim bitcoin to be some kind of "ought" rather than accepting it for what it "is."

Ver seems to have difficulties accepting that Bitcoin is going to evolve, and that evolution takes time, rather than attempting to make bitcoin into something that can easily be changed based on attempts at hostage taking - and we got several of these whiners out there, like Ver, trying to proclaim that bitcoin is broken unless something is done.

I just don't see how Ver is really attempting anything meaningful - beyond efforts that seem to strive to weaken and damage bitcoin, rather than making it better as he is outwardly proclaiming as his goals.

There are currently cryptocurrencies which perform better than Bitcoin, have more features than Bitcoin, have a more receptive and open development team than Bitcoin, and have a better upgrade path than Bitcoin. The single and only remaining quality that Bitcoin has over these other cryptocurrencies is first-mover advantage and its pre-existing network of users and infrastructure. If these qualities are not preserved, Bitcoin will continue to lose market share to competing cryptocurrencies.

Who gives a ratt's ass?

If you want to invest in the various other cryptos, then do it.

Just because some other cryptos have better features and supposedly nicer people does not take away value from bitcoin.. for what it has to offer regarding ongoing security and a large amount of development and ongoing development.. and including secure immutability and decentralization....

so you can migrate all that you want under the belief that there may be some supposedly "better" ones out there and supposedly more potential... go do it.. who the fuck cares.

Take your chances with those other coins, and I am not sure what level of diversification you are suggesting, Satoshi? Are you suggesting any stake in bitcoin? 70%, 50% 10%, shorting it? Let's think practically, what is the percentage that you are suggesting and which coins? Are you going to bet on BU? How about buying BCU coins on Bitfinex? They are only 11% the price of BCC coins.

You can take chances that you believe that some of these other coins might 10x while bitcoin only 2x's or believe that some of these other coins might NOT go to zero and bitcoin might go to zero.. or whatever is the variation of your bet.. these are personal allocation decisions and guys can do whatever they like in terms of allocation, no?

How much are you saying in Bitcoin, Satoshi? Give us a number? It is difficult to believe you on anything if you have been suggesting zero since $250 and then even engaged in some unsuccessful shorting efforts in the mid $500s.

You have been suggesting that bitcoin is dead in the last two years while bitcoin has pretty much come close to 5xing during that time. Are you saying that times have changed? Bitcoin is weaker than it was two years ago. If so, that is bullshit. Bitcoin is in a very strong place right now, in spite of a lot of this bullshit FUD and whining going on. Weren't several of you FUD spreaders suggesting the selling of bitcoin at $890 a few weeks ago? There are just too many missed opportunities when guys get overly fearful and overly diversify out of bitcoin and into the various other crap pump and dump coins.

Yeah.. we can consider to go to a lot of these other cryptos and we can consider these kinds of matters based on upside and downside potential of each of the cryptos that we get into, and I am saying that you should be considering a decent stash in bitcoin rather than naysaying it and buying into a lot of the disinformation and FUD spreading that seems to accompany the pumping of other coins, the denigration of BTC and the giving a lot of weight to Ver and the other Big block whiners.
JayJuanGee 路 2017-04-13 20:58:00 路 #3888
By the way, we could have a lot more Bitcoin dumping and still be in a real decent place.

Today's daily weighted average price closed at 22 top price EVER at $1,178.76.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=...sg18579654

So, yeah, there is a lot of room for a lot more downward price correction, and still to be in a good place in terms of price and marketcap and the seeming existence of ongoing upwards price pressures.

Maybe my tolerance is a bit low for him? And, yeah, he definitely is strategic with some of his FUD spreading.... I don't know if desperate would be a good word to describe him, because he surely has been getting a large contingency of a following - or at least the appearance of such.. and even though some folks of accused bitcoin.com and some of their BU mining support as a bit of smoke and mirrors - you cannot really deny that there seems to be something going on with folks following him, including some of the mining pools either jumping on the BU train or failing/refusing to signal for Segwit.

Everytime I take a look at this thread, it reminds me more and more of something I experienced in real life. And I ask myself: does it have to be this way?
A friend of mine is dedicated Bitcoin for a few years now. It startet with him buying expensive computer-parts so he could build his own miners. Someday, his flat was full of Pc's. It was so loud, that you could barely hear your own voice. If anybody questioned his behaviour, he got a harsh reaction. "Noob - you don't know nothing. Bc is the shit - it will make me a millionaire." Less an less people came to visit him.

Today, the huge and loud miners are gone.
But so are most of his friends. When he is not smoking weed, he's hanging in front of his laptop daytrading Cryptos. He says, he owns around 100 btc and is invested in several other coins like dash, ltc, doge. Since he doesn't have a job, I think this is quite an achievment.
But who knows, how much he invested? What's the price he paid? What's his strategy, when btc doesn't make him a millionaire? He won't tell - he won't discuss. Asking about or (critically) discussing bitcoin or cryptos in general? "Stfu, noob!" Questioning the sustainability/energy-consumption of btc/cryptos? "Stfu, noob!" Questioning or just discussing about his belief, that "btc will climb up to 10k per coin"? "Stfu, noob - better invest!"

Although I'm really interested (and also financially invested) in btc/cryptos, I decided to reduce my (rare) time with him even more - it doesn't feel good anymore and whenever he has the sligthest feeling, that anybody could question what he does, he responds with an almost unstoppable rant.

To come back to this thread: I enjoyed following and reading it for quite a time. Sometimes, because you could find some interesting information, sometimes just because of pure curiosity. But it became quite a pain in the ass, like many other threads on this board.

In the end, it is up to you if you want to attempt to figure out some kind of bitcoin strategy that could work for you and how to juggle any potential discussion about bitcoin and/or the extent of your investment in such a discussion, including the possibility of this thread or some other non-RVF bitcoin thread. There are subreddits, such as r/bitcoin and Bitcointalk.org, too (and others).

Of course with a thread you can decide how much to interact - yet the interaction is different than an in-person interaction, too.

On a personal level, have you bought any bitcoin or other cryptos? One thing is looking in at bitcoin or other cryptos from the outside, but it becomes a whole hell-of-a lot more concrete if you attempt to apply to your own finances and views and risk tolerances and what might work for you and in light of other investments that you might have, your cash flow and how much time you would like to invest, too.

So, for example, if you have only $1,000 that you would like to invest over 6 months (or some other period that you would consider reasonable) then you may have to consider a little bit about how to approach the whole situation, regarding whether you would attempt to spread out your investment or whether you would attempt to time your investment for certain price points.

What I suggest, versus what some other RVF guys might suggest, is likely going to vary, but in the end, you gotta figure out what could possibly work for you and your circumstances and whether you are going to dip into bitcoin or some other crypto and, if so, how much.

Regarding your friend, bitcoin has a lot of components, and it can become quite absorbing, and even a different level of technical sophistication for someone who chooses to enter into the mining aspects, as you have indicated, and these kinds of intensities can play out a bit differently for different folks - depending on the extent of their investments and even their personalities.

Frequently, Greg Maxwell has interesting and informative posts, even though sometimes he is vilfied by several of the big blockers and I think that Roger Ver is quite personally resentful of Maxwell because Maxwell tends to suggest that Ver is a kind of technical idiot. hahahahahaha

Anyhow, in this post, Maxwell discusses why he is not so excited about the USAF (user activate softfork) BIP148 because it does not achieve as much as Seg wit in a variety of regards, including backwards compatibility and security stability.

You are full of assumptions, and you try to read too much into a situation.. including my perspective (maybe because you cannot understand my words due to not really reading my responses - and from time to time admitting to such).

My money is going to get apportioned into whatever I think is good for me at the time, and if there is some other coin out there that seems better than bitcoin or if i feel that I should reallocate and to spread my risk, then I will.

For nearly two years, you have been coming into this thread and constantly complaining about various deficiencies in bitcoin and suggesting either to sell all bitcoins or to short it, and that is all fine and dandy for you to do that or to take that approach, but those approaches have ended up being pretty stupid-ass ways to go about any kind of meaningful bitcoin investment, especially for someone who should have known better... or maybe if RVF guys would have been scared off from bitcoin because of your seemingly unwarranted fearmungering.

Also, your mindset seems to be a bit screwed up in regards to bitcoin, and I am really not sure how you got to such a screwed up state of being - of wanting to be right - but not seeming to quite get some of the value propositions of bitcoin.. You seem to have been buying into a lot of the nonsense about bitcoin is dead and there are bitcoin 2.0s out there.. blah blah blah.

Sure some guys could have made more money in other investments, but what the fuck? How would some one know until after the fact, and bitcoin has been pretty solid with about 5x returns over the period - depending on when a guy would have gotten in or out... and bitcoin has been pretty solid as an overall class of investment since the time that you got out in the mid $200s and during the whole time that you have been claiming that it is broken or that other guys should get out or to short it.

So, maybe part of my frustration and caring has come from some of your intensity and lack of moderation and practicality when it comes to bitcoin and what you seem to be suggesting (on an ongoing basis) that other RVF guys should either short or sell their BTC or not to get into it at all because it's screwed, from your perspective.

You come in and bash BTC, but you won't answer questions regarding practicality and even give some kind of reasonable ideas about what you suggest how much should guys invest in BTC or other coins. like I already asked, through inference you are seeming to want to pump various alts as being better than BTC - but you won't give any meaningful guidelines regarding an approach that you are suggesting that guys might want to consider - except maybe after the fact Monday morning quarterbacking about what might have been better (but that does not really do any good, does it?)

I understand that RVF guys have differing perspectives on how they invest... and no problem with that.

Historically, I have been fairly accepting of approaches that may invest fairly sizeable amounts into other cryptos - or even heavy gambling-like strategies (even though I don't take such an approach). I would also suggest that more than 20% of an investment in other cryptos of your total crypto seems outlandish to me, and personally, i have not really gone beyond a couple percentage points outside of bitcoin - currently I think that I have less than 2% in other cryptos (which happens to be small amounts in ETC and Monero - and I have sell orders set on my ETC and buy orders on Monero - even though it could take a while for either of them to fill because of the way that they are currently set).

In the end, guys do need to find their own balance - but don't we need some practical outline too regarding what kinds of ratios are being suggested? Even if you are suggesting 20% or less in bitcoin, that is more practical than suggesting 0% or even shorting it? Or not? Can you commit to some kind of concreteness, now rather than after the fact saying I told you so?

I think that BTC trading strangeness of the past 10 hours or more has been kind of supporting my theory that there are several Bearwhales who are not on the same page regarding whether BTC's price should go up or should go down - they are not sharing memos.

So, yeah, could be the beginning of a meaningful price battle. We have significant dumps going on through Bitstamp, and we have pumps going on through Bitfinex.

I was starting to think that meant we are probably going up, but the longer that the dumps occur on Stamp is going to begin to cause me to think that maybe Stamp is going to lead the way and the other exchanges will follow. Sure I am torn about this because it is not easy to know what is going to happen while in the middle of it. However, afterwards we can come back and explain what happened because we will have more information at that subsequent point in time.

Yeah another 40% rise in BTC price and market cap does seem to be doable within the next year or so... but we also know that nothing is guaranteed in bitcoinlandia.

Also, what you going to do once the price gets there? Cannot just sit back and say that profits are all "on paper" unless you are comfortable that such a price is going to be sustainable - which it does not seem as if bitcoin's ongoing volatility is going away any time soon.

Rather than asking questions, do you have any suggestions? What are you doing in terms of your own investments and diversification? Are you all talk and preparing for some kind of "told you so" or do you have any kind of actual and real skin in any particular direction?

One thing is to criticize - anther thing is to suggest a possible path forward.

I think I've been telling you for years

So I do not regret getting out of bitcoin at all.

told you so HuhHuh

I doubt that you are telling anything that is based on actual specific facts about something that you actually did? did you invest in each of those? I only heard you say something about maidsafe, and not really much for specifics? Did you take all of your bitcoin money and put it in maidsafe?..

So what were your allocations, more or less from Mid-2015 to present? Did you experience those levels of profits? What are your current allocations, more or less?

What are you recommending currently as a strategy for someone getting into crypto? and which coins should they buy first and How should they allocate, now?

Should they allocate based on some kind of hindsight is 20/20? or what?

Did you max your profits on each coin, and you bang only 10s, too? hahahahahaha

Give us some specifics.. homeboy.... not in order to trap you but in order that guys might be able to learn from your strategy.. if you have any kind of system that can be replicated and shared...

No one is hating on you as long as you are not just making up shit..

I kind of have some doubts, but if you have specifics about the plan that you had followed and some kinds of specifics about a plan that you are currently recommending, then I would not be able to hate on that, would I? unless it just appears that you are talking nonsense?

How about:

35 % maid
35 % eth
10 % dash
10 % monero
10 % btc

I am following this thread from time to time and the strong rise from ETH has awoken my interest in the entire cryptocurrency again.

Unfortunately, I sold my ETH last year, otherwise I would have benefited very nicely from the up swing of the last days / week.

In the last few days, I have invested a bit more time in doing research in the entire field for determine in which currency I want to invest in the future.

As we all know, there are plenty of them, however the following spark my interest:

ETH ($47.85 at the time of writing)
Quote:Ethereum is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform featuring smart contract (scripting) functionality. It provides a decentralized virtual machine, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

What do I like about it: The smart contract scripting seems very useful.

Dash ($71.99960108)
Quote:Dash (formerly known as Darkcoin and XCoin) is an open source peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that offers instant transactions (InstantSend), private transactions (PrivateSend) and token fungibility. It was rebranded from "Darkcoin" to "Dash" on March 25, 2015, a portmanteau of "Digital Cash".

What do I like about it: Instant transactions seems like a necessary thing for me as a novice for a digital currency.

Monero ($21.13885920)
Quote:Monero (XMR) is an open-source cryptocurrency created in April 2014 that focuses on privacy, decentralisation and scalability. Unlike many cryptocurrencies that are derivatives of Bitcoin, Monero is based on the CryptoNote protocol and possesses significant algorithmic differences relating to blockchain obfuscation

What do I like about it: It seems similar to me, however there is a bigger focus on privacy and less marketing.

Bitcoin ($1182.79)
We all know it. I understand from my research that one of the biggest advantages are, it is well-known and it is robust due to the size.

XPR / Ripple ($0.033503)
Quote:Ripple is a real-time gross settlement system (RTGS), currency exchange and remittance network by Ripple. Also called the Ripple Transaction Protocol (RTXP) or Ripple protocol,[3] it is built upon a distributed open source Internet protocol, consensus ledger and native currency called XRP (ripples).

What do I like about it: Mayor banks have shown real interest in Ripple.

I plan to structure my cryptocurrency invest as follows:
25 % XPR
25 % monero
20 % dash
10 % ETH
10 % btc

I am not an expert at all. However, I have done a bit research and were lucky enough to double my initial investment in BTC.

Let's be honest, no one really knows what the future will bring. When you read some older posts in other forums, you realise, there is a lot of speculation and most of it didn't happen.

I do invest in cryptocurrency longterm as I believe in the future of cryptocurrency. However, I have no idea, which cryptocurrency will be a winner at the end.

I wouldn't recommend a good friend to invest in the same way I do, because the future is just not clear enough (for me). However, the rewards, when one of the cryptocurrency I invested is skyrocketing, can be very nice.

If one crashes and goes to zero, well, I would be a bit annoyed. But it wouldn't have any major impact on my life.
