I can't believe people go $1,000,000.00 into debt to get a paper from that shithole.

From personal experience: for graduate programs (PhDs), there are 4 things you need: GPA, GRE, recommendation letters and your statement of purpose (your essay). I've talked to multiple professors and they've all confirmed the essay is the least important part of your application because it's the easiest to bullshit. Hard to fake GPA, GRE scores or recommendation letters on the other hand. I have friends who accidentally submitted the wrong essay and still got accepted into graduate school (Imagine a letter that starts with: 'I'd like to attend Harvard' sent to Yale). The professors probably don't even read the essays unless they're deciding between two equally qualified candidates.

Disagree, my experience has been quite different. In my field, history, the statement, writing sample, and recommendations are all far more important than GPA or GRE scores. GRE scores and GPA will keep one out, but they won't get somebody in. The statement of purpose is absolutely critical to history PhD admissions.

His dad is a hedge fund manager. He's more privileged than 99% of the US population, regardless of race. For him to cry victim is a farce.

P.S. He ain't black, and I doubt he's ever even run into an average black person in his entire life.

What the hell kind of question is "what matters to you and why?" anyhow?

I'm so glad I went to a top tier university before all this racial nonsense and lgbt faggotry was normalized.

As the posts above suggest,

1. What matters in Undergraduate vs. Graduate applications are different.

2. What matters in Graduate applications is highly dependent on field.

Essays are valued relatively highly in undergraduate applications. In STEM graduate applications, they're relatively non-important. I could easily see them mattering more in non-STEM graduate applications.

Standardized test scores (adjusted for race, of course [e.g. a 1400 on the SATs on the old Math + Verbal scale is a death knell if you're Asian applying to top undergraduate programs; whereas you're the one-eyed king in the land of the blind if you're black]) are very important for both undergraduate and graduate applications.

If you didn't hit the 800 ceiling on the old GRE-scale for Quant (now 166+) and you're Asian or White American, that's already a steep hole to climb out of for, say, the top 15-20 Mathematics, Physics, and Economics graduate programs, top 10-15 Statistics graduate programs, and Top 5-10 Biostatistics.

And obviously, much better to get 170 than 169, much less 166.

Verbal score matters too for native English-speakers applying to STEM programs. It's an additional signal to the Quant score in gauging your general cognitive ability.

Valid point on essays mattering far more in the humanities. My field is in engineering, so I was speaking from my experiences. That said, considering this kid's credentials I don't know how much his essay would matter in moving the needle. And not like any admissions officer would ever admit to skipping parts of an application.

Looking at the kid's twitter feed, he stated that question wasn't even the main essay, but another question on the application:

https://twitter.com/ziadtheactivist/stat...0707499009

And again, considering the rest of his application, I still wouldn't be surprised if the admissions committee skipped the #BLM answer and didn't see it.

While the whole premise is retarded.

If that is all it takes to 'game the system'. Can't argue the kid isn't a little bit savvy.

Damn, that is one spoiled faggot. He projects all of his insecurities (race and sex) into politics with a self-hatred of what a broken creature he is and what he lacks.

I kinda wonder if globalists raise the most miserable children possible on purpose so they can be more sadistic to the rest of the world. This Ahmed kid in particular looks like he got raped pretty early on.
