Cosign, except for me it's Willie Nelson's Outlaw Country on XM radio in a Silverado 1500. I completely get the Toyota/Honda thing, but these sweet beasts are indestructible. Only have 80k miles on mine and I'm keeping it until I die or until it falls apart. And there's a good chance I'll die first - I was not surprised to see GM products turn up a few times on the following "cars most likely to go over 200k miles" list:

Kona, you drive that huge ass truck in Hawaii? I thought all y'all niggas had were 20 year old cars, mustangs, and jeeps.

Is yours a dually? Do you have the midnight black edition package? Is it lifted? Does it have one of those gay ass LED light bars at top? Do you drive with the gay ass LED light bar during the day? Do you take it muddin'?

i got to work on a gen IV GM V8 in a 2011 suburban last weekend. It suffered a common problem called "AFM lifter failure." One of the lifters that shuts off when the vehicle goes into 4 cylinder mode collapsed due to a fault in the VLOM. The TSB only said to replace the faulty lifter and the VLOM. With 150K on the clock, I replaced all 8 AFM lifters, all 8 standard lifters, all pushrods, lifter retainers, and VLOM. Since LS series engines require head removal to access the lifters, I wound up doing head gaskets as well.

This is an aluminum block and heads. The cylinder sleeves still had honing marks.

If you've got a gen 4 v8 with RPO code LC9, read up on this problem, and keep your ears open for sounds of failure. Otherwise, the new ones aren't bad to work on.

I *think* Suits is kidding here, but I'd put the rims on it. I always put rims on my cars. I choose rims that look good with that vehicle, and I try not to spend any more than I need to, but it's worth it to me, because I like the way they look.

I wish I had the money to add a paint job to have a sweet ride like Suit's car, but I'm too cheap. Rims are enough for me.

You're looking at this backwards. You are worried about the upfront expense of perfecting the look of your ride, but have you considered the long term opportunity cost of NOT pimping your Honda?

Personal finance blogs are always telling you to not waste money on that $5 Starbucks coffee, don't spend $55 on cable each month, don't spend $40K pimping your ride with a unique, but tasteful green, black and red paintjob.

It's all terrible advice. Instead of spending less money, you should be trying to buy more $5 coffee for the type of people that will open doors for you along the road and the only reason to skip on cable is so that you have more time to buy more coffees for more influential people.

The same goes for having an eclectically coloured car. Just think of all the opportunities lost and the deals that won't get signed because you opted for a "sensible" car.

Don't follow in the footsteps of the sheep who never achieved anything. Make your own way in life.

Yes I drive the 2500 here. I pull stuff a lot. I just got the LTZ, and traded a 2015 Denali HD in for it. The Denali was a little too cutesy. It had a whiteish interior that felt like the waiting room of a Korean massage parlor.

That's Cuba you are thinking of with the old cars. This happens all the time. Someone says "well I've never been to Hawaii, but I've been to Jamaica" since they're all basically the same place. We say brah they say Mon. That's all.

The LTZ is not a dually. I do have a 2001 Chevy dually that just for pulling stuff when the truck has to go in the water a little. Its a used state vehicle with a lot of miles, but runs great.

The LTZ is lifted, but its a 3 inch and its done the full warranty way. They call it factory lift but really the dealer orders it from some other factory. And yes, I have gay ass LEDs in the front and the back. I did this for two reasons. 1. They are great for seeing when you hook stuff to the truck at night or early morning. 2. I can just turn them on at night, and all of the other gays know its me. You can't suck a dick you can't see.

Again glad you asked. I love Chevy trucks, and can go on for hours.

I've had Tahoe's with it, and never had a problem. Many other people had all types of issues with that.

This depends. A couple of questions.
- How old are you? And what do you currently do (i.e., work, student in college, etc.)?
- Any debts (i.e., credit card debts)?
- Do you plan on doing any international traveling?

If the car runs good and is taking care of, then you should be okay. Only thing you need to be aware of is to stay on top of regular tuneups and maintenance check especially regular oil change every 5000 miles.

My piece of shit car is a 2004 Toyota Matrix, which still runs great to this day. It has nearly 248,000 miles on it with no hubcaps. And it's a 5 speed manual transmission (aka stick). I don't invest too much money into my car except for some rare repairs. I do my own oil change and maintenance check.

Why do I drive a piece of shit? Because nobody wants to steal an ugly looking car anyway. I don't give a crap what others think.

As someone who lives a minimal lifestyle, I am debt free and tend to save my money frugally. This allows me to travel outside the country - i.e., Ukraine, Slovakia, Thailand, etc.

That is the difference between being debt free that allow someone to travel internationally and being stuck with debts with no plan of ever traveling outside the USA to meet foreign women.

I only remember two things from my entire four years of college. Maybe these were the only two things I actually heard with my ears but didn't understand until 20 years later and after doing the opposite until the sting of loss of millions was unbearable. These two things were said by an accounting professor:

"Never spend a dollar to protect 99 cents."
"Never run out of cash."

So in your case you can relate to the 99 cents. Regardless of what you paid you have a basically worthless car. If you were to trade it in it is what in the car business is called a hundred dollar car or fifty dollar car. It is worth zero but they give you some number on paper.

So, maybe it runs and you need it to run and it needs a few dollars here or there. Like if I buy this thirty dollar part it will run for one more month and save ten times that in ubers. But as soon as you spend rims type money then maybe you violate rule #1, and perhaps rule #2.

In some amount of time only you and your lifestyle will determine, the car won't serve you anymore. For example You will want to be taken seriously or you may want safety. When this happens you may find yourself glad you have not spent any more than you had to on it.

A car is a bit like a woman.

If it is properly maintained, all the required check-ups and maintenances are done, it'll last a very long time while still looking fresh. If it is has too many miles and starts to rot because it wasn't maintained, it's better to just trash it and get a new one. You shouldn't spend a dollar to protect 99 cents.
