Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
Some of you may be familiar with the blog ThePrivateMan.

He is a colorful guy:

[Image: WCqWgkytuiF8QjwDbVFCVCnFZmyDkfy5l7TpndII...rge_2.jpeg]

He is a member of the forum: /user-6963.html, he has a blog and a Twitter handle.

https://theprivateman.wordpress.com/
https://twitter.com/man_private

Rollo mentioned him on his blog:

Quote:If you've spent any time in the 'sphere you're probably familiar with the blog of Private Man. I've been a friend, and sometimes confidante, of Andrew for some time now and I've know of his cancer for most of it.

At first it was losing his eye, but now it's back and it's very aggressive. Andrew is very upfront about his mortality and he's accepted he will die this year. You can learn more about it here. I've offered Andrew the guest author the forward of my upcoming book and he's accepted. I did so in the hope of having him be memorialized for being a fixture in the manosphere.

Private Man is having a going away party tonight in Boynton Beach, Florida and I'm simulcasting it on The Rational Male for tonight. If you have the time, please watch.

I'm not going to lie, it's really hard to think of Andrew in the past tense right now, but how we face death is at least as important as how we face life.

And here Andrew himself:

Quote:So, my cancer went terminal recently. It’s now called Stage 4 Metastatic Liver Cancer. But despite this uncomfortable news, I have been granted a unique gift. I have a bit of time left. So, to that end, rather than just die miserably from liver failure, I’ll carve out some time and have a fine going away party! Seriously. This will likely be the last chance to cast your gaze upon my glorious visage and hear me wax bombastically on a variety of topics.

I personally found it such a boss-way to go out and throw a party before the beyond that I had to post a thread here. While I unfortunately did not meet with him to date, I have read some of his blog posts and seen him speak.

Here you have a recording of the farewell party and can see him say a few words around the 01:30 hour mark.

Here Andrew at a former 21Studios conference which post host various PUA/Manosphere events:

And here a recent interview with him on Stefan Molyneux:

It makes you wonder about the finality of life and what you would do having only a few weeks to live. This farewell party is some of the most saddest and equally heartwarming positively masculine things to do that I have seen.

It is amazing how Andrew is still so balanced and energetic - that's usually how warriors of the past used to go out laughing until the end. Makes you really think to live life to the max.

RE: Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
Holy shit. I completely-missed the cancer finding and all this happening. He was one of the handful of blogs that originally lead me into the manosphere.

A large part of aging well as an older man is approaching the inevitability of your own death without fear or regret. He has my respect for exiting the stage with courage.

Godspeed, mate. We'll all follow you, at our own speed.

RE: Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
Andrew said that one of the main reasons he is so composed - aside from the Red Pill perception - is that he lived his life to the fullest having no regrets. He said that he had done most of the things on his bucket list by his 40s - having had beautiful women, even married a woman who looked like Ivanka Trump in her prime (before it began to go to shit 10 years later when she turned 36).

The Stefan Molyneux interview is a good one.

RE: Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
I started reading his blog early after taking the red pill five years ago. I haven't read it non-stop, but I've always appreciated his point of view and his advice as an older man.

He had cancer and lost his eye, but otherwise was declared to be in remission. I think he got two more good years before this came up. I think this pattern plays out often with cancer. You fight , and make the most of your remaining time. With luck, you can have several more years, and the discomfort from treatment is well justified by the good living you're able to enjoy in those years.

You hope for a permanent cure, and it happens fairly often, but if not, you make your peace and go out with your head held high.

The Private Man is showing how to handle this as well as Ive seen. God Bless him and his loved ones as this plays out to the end.

I'm the tower of power, too sweet to be sour. I'm funky like a monkey. Sky's the limit and space is the place!

RE: Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
I came upon his blog as I started digging around the manosphere and was surprised to find a veteran voice in the selection of personalities around (Roosh and other guya are still under 40,right?).
I concur with Zel that this man deserves and has earned highest form of respect.

RE: Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
He was one of the first manosphere blogs I have read. It was well written and full of good information. I haven't read it recently but will have to check it out again. Its sad that the cancer returned in such a lethal fashion. I thought he had beat it. He is very stoic about his coming death, which is impressive and inspiring.

RE: Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
Private Man, I will perform Parinamana for you. Parinamana is 'transfer of merit'. An act of kindness and of giving that creates good karma, which I will pass on to you, losing none of the karma I attain, in the way one candle can light another candle, without the first candle's flame going out.

In the next few days, I will visit an old man who recently lost his wife of many decades. He is 90 years old and knows nobody in this new area they both moved to a few years ago. I will keep him company and offer to do what I can for him. He has heart surgery in the near future as well. This is what growing old means. It is often not kind. Many people do not know what it means to grow old.

This good deed of mine, now becomes your good deed for him. Parinamana.

I will also recite the Earth-Stone Bodhisattva Sutra for you, and for all sentient beings. Sentient beings being composed of the five 'Skandhas': Matter itself; the five senses; perception of the world around them; ideas, thoughts and feelings formed from those perceptions; and ultimately, consciousness itself.

Earth-Stone Bodhisattva Sutra [PDF]
buddhanet.net/pdf_file/ksitigarbha.pdf

"If sentient beings of the six catagories of beings of the present and the future in different worlds, hear the name of 'Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva' at their dying stage, they will never be reborn to the three evil realms."

The Earth-Stone Bodhisattva Sutra takes some hours to recite, so I would like to also leave this shortest of Sutras here for you, so anyone reading may also recite it for you, should they so wish:

The Heart Sutra:

When Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara coursed through the deep Prajnaparamita, he saw that the five skandhas were empty; thus he overcame all ills and suffering.

“O Sariputra! Form does not differ from the void, and the void does not differ from the form. Form is the void, and the void is form. The same is true for feelings, conceptions, impulses and consciousness.

O Sariputra, the characteristics of the void is not created, not annihilated, not impure, not pure, not increasing, not decreasing,

Therefore, in the void there are no forms and no feelings, conceptions, impulses and no consciousness: there is no eye, ear, nose, tongue, body or mind; there is no form, sound, smell, taste, touch or idea; no eye elements, until we come to no elements of consciousness; no ignorance and also no ending of ignorance, until we come to no old age and death; and no ending of old age and death.

Also, there is no truth of suffering, of the cause of suffering, of the cessation of suffering or of the path. There is no wisdom, and there is no attainment whatsoever. Because there is nothing to be attained, a Bodhisattva relying on Prajnaparamita has no obstruction in his heart.

Because there is no obstruction he has no fear, and he passes far beyond all confused imagination and reaches Ultimate Nirvana.
All Buddhas in the past, present and future have attained Supreme Enlightenment by relying on the Prajnaparamita.

"Therefore, the Prajna Paramita is the Great Magic Spell, The Spell of Illumination, the Supreme Spell, Which Can Truly Protect One From All Suffering Without Fail."

Therefore, he uttered the Prajnaparamita mantra, by saying:
“Gone, gone, gone over, gone fully over, Awakened! So be it!”

........

Now you cross over the river...

May you be reborn in to the Pure Land (or its equivalent according to your beliefs or faith).

RE: Tribute to THE PRIVATE MAN who throws a party before his death
Great thread, I've read his blog for a long time. I remember I believe at one point he posted an epic CL story about a woman trying to trick him into raising a kid that wasn't his. I read that story a long time ago, it always stayed in my mind.

He's showing great courage now, in fact the way he is dealing with his own death is an example we can all follow when that time comes.

A lot of us study philosophy on the forum, stoicism, buddhism, etc. These are great learning tools. His attitude in dealing with this should be a reminder to all of us...that the fundamental goal we should achieve is conquering and knowing ourselves.

Thanks y'all. I'm not dead yet... but it's lurking out there like a really unpleasant vulture. My hunch is that my life will end in late May. My hunches regarding my cancer have, unfortunately, turned out to fairly accurate.

Oh, and PLEASE do NOT give me advice on alternative cancer therapies. I have made my choices regarding end-of-life treatments. 420, yoga, diet, and other half assed, poorly researched bullshit is not in my cards. I know you mean well but it's my body, my choice. As well, I know far more about this rare cancer than you will ever hope to know.
