The problem with sex in Buddhism
Quote:It seems these days in Los Angeles, it's OK to do or be anything you want sexually... And if you're lucky enough to find your true sexual identity, you will be happy and fulfilled the rest of your life.

Well, in this world of *Samsara it just doesn't work that way.

The Buddha more than anything else was a man, who went from childhood to manhood, got married, and at the age of 29 had his first child. He went through all the stages men go through sexually, but at the age of 35 ended his sexual desire forever in *Nirvana.

The big question today is... Does the desire for sex always lead to suffering? The answer is, Yes! But the reason may surprise you.

The Buddha in everything he said about sex implies... The activity of sex will never ultimately satisfy the desire for sex.

Now this is a real bummer if you think about it. You can have sex a 1000 times, and want it a 1001. You can be 90 years old... Blind and cripple... Still want to have sex, and not be physically able to. You will never get rid of your sexual desire by having sex. In fact, it seems the more sex you have, the more sex you want.

I think sex is a lot like hunger... And to be honest with you, I'm so tired of being hungry. I have been hungry every day of my life. I'm hungry in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. Think of all the time and money I could save if I gave up eating!

So what if tomorrow, I get up real early and eat as much as I desire, and anything I want. Whatever looks good, I'm going to eat it and keep eating it, until I am so full and satisfied, I will never want to eat again.

Well, if I were to do that what would happen? I would wake up the next morning and still be hungry and sex works the very same way!

You might be saying to yourself, "Well Kusala is a monk, and monks don't have sex, so maybe if I choose celibacy I won't have to suffer."

I wish life were so easy!

The people who choose a celibate lifestyle ('desire' not to have) suffer in a different way from people that choose to have sex ('desire' to have). But all people (monks too) suffer when it comes to sex, if they have desire.

The only way to have sex and not suffer, is to have no desire to have sex. It sounds like a 'Zen Koan' doesn't it? To end our suffering we need to end our desire, our craving, our thirst.

When a Buddhist does end his/her desire in Nirvana, would there be any reason to have sex simply for pleasure???

The problem with sex according to Buddhism... Is not the activity of sex, but the desire for sex. The sexual desire of a human being will never be ultimately satisfied through sexual activity.

I never fully realized that Buddhism was such a load of depressing nihilism until now, this piece lays it out perfectly.

The point of what he's saying is that you will never end your thirst for sex by having more and more of it. It may sound like nihilism to you but it's true. Ask any player out there.

Having said that sex in Buddhism is only prohibited for monks. Lay people can indulge in it as long as they stick to the ethical guidelines.

That shows your complete lack of understanding. Buddhism is actually very red pill if you bothered to study it.

You're trying to convince yourself that having sex is evil and you're better off a MGTOW.

I don't need to ask anyone, I am a player son.

The thirst for sex is not something needing to be "ended" or solved, so the premise is retarded to begin with.

I never said sex is evil and neither did the Buddha. That would be a very Christian thing to say. And unless I become a monk someday I probably won't be going MGTOW anytime soon. But I sure as hell won't be totally obsessed with it either and let it occupy my mind 24/7.

For a Buddhist ending the desire for sex would be a major deal. It would mean ending the cycles of birth and death and attaining the ultimate goal of nirvana, or being very close to it.

If you want to end sexual desire you don't need Budhism, just cut your nuts off. As testosterone levels drop so will sexual desire. No need for the mumbo jumbo.

Is there really a need for this immature shit here? You want to say something intelligent then say it otherwise get lost. Also before criticizing Buddhism learn how to spell it first.

If cutting your nuts off would bring you closer to Nirvana then I'm sure all the monks would be doing it. There are many other factors involved but I won't waste my breath.

About 14 years ago when I first went to Thailand I became interested in Buddhism, but the slogan on the information pamphlet didn't sit right with me.

Buddhism- Where the only thing standing in the way of happiness is having any desires at all™

That's an over simplification of teachings imo and a lot of people take it the wrong way. Some good replies here to this common misunderstanding: http://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22942

RE: The problem with sex in Buddhism
What's with hating on the OP? He's right you know.

This is touched upon in other religious materials. Christianity has all sorts of warnings and writings about this very topic.

There's nothing wrong with a healthy sex life. Women and good drink are God's greatest gifts.

Like all gifts, there can be too much. A lot of guys on here end up so completely enamored with their next lay and where it comes from that you end up seeing them achieving nothing more of value. They're stuck in an endless cycle of bangs that will never be fulfilled.

It's almost like they're stuck at their lowest form of their being, almost like animals, stuck at endlessly attempting to feed themselves on something that will never be filling.

Does this mean going 100% abstinent on all earthly pleasures? No, but it doesn't mean being a pure hedonist is the right way either.

Find your happy medium.

RE: The problem with sex in Buddhism
The idea of "chasing ass endlessly and exclusively can be unfulfilling", that is certainly true.

What I disagree with is the premise that the desire itself is a problem to be solved- if only we could curtail the desire then we'll be free of this cycle

The mistake, if there is one, is using sex to fill a void in your life- of course it's not going to do that. It especially happens with a lot of guys who didn't have much success with girls growing up, they end up chasing to make up for what they didn't have, constantly trying to prove something to themselves. Roosh himself has gone through that in his writing.

Sex should be enjoyed for its own sake, only then will you be "free" of this so called cycle. If you're trying to use sex to solve another problem, you won't.

The premise that sexual desire itself needs to be ended in order to find happiness is just plain wrong- it's the motivations and psychology behind the desire that determine if it is destructive or fulfilling.

The answer is certainly not in the Buddhist text above, void of all humanness.

RE: The problem with sex in Buddhism
If Buddha was soooo clever, why was he such a fat fucker?
LIFT. WEIGHTS. BRO.

Anyway, before I offend any Buddhists here, I think Buddhism is mistranslated.

Fucking is good. But sitting round all day thinking "I hope I get laid tonight" is BAADDD.

I think what Buddhism is saying is to live life in the moment, be aware of the good stuff around you. Don't punish yourself and be a slavedriver demanding ever more of yourself, telling yourself to drink from an infinite cup, or search for an infinite cup.

Part of the problem isn't necessarily our view of sex, but the World we have created.
Men and women are often single, toiling for money, in sex free zones. People abuse their bodies and become unattractive. Or people look for things that don't exist. People in stable relationships are often more likely to have enough sex than game addicts.

So to me, game skills are good, sex when you want is good. But an overwhelming game addiction is not good.

____________
There's another aspect to this, when we become fully charged with our sexual energy, rather then seeking to exit this energy all the time. Potentially the sexual energy can be transmuted or converted to various uses - extended health, sports, martial arts, intellectual work, more energy etc. And then tapped ie used sexually in a relaxed rather than a walking round with a hardon saying "I need to fuck, fuck, fuck" type of way. Thats where advanced Yoga/Taoist arts etc can come into use.

You can wait till this evening.when I'm at home and on my lap top. If you don't get banned before then that is.

It depends on what kind of happiness you're talking about here. For mundane worldly happiness, yes, having a healthy sex life is a good thing. On the other hand if one is striving for supramundane spiritual happiness (nirvana) then sexual activity becomes an obstacle in achieving it. That is why an outright abstinence from sex is only prescribed for monks.

No, the fat buddha everyone thinks is the real buddha is actually a chinese folklore deity. This is the real maitreya as depicted in the texts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maitreya

RE: The problem with sex in Buddhism
There are like 20 major kinds of Buddhism, and most of them are Chinese and Japanese mods that Shakyamuni would not have likely recognized. As a spiritual way, Budhhism was either for people hardcore enough to become monks and rid themselves of all secular attachment, or for laypeople to accumulate enough virtue to to be reborn as someone with the karma to become a monk in the next life. Contrary to the fantasies of some orientalists, this would include not having excessive or morally improper sex.

That being said, like 98% of Buddhists and Buddhist sects are like Christians: fake, or cucked.

As for the Maitreya: he's pretty much the Buddhist equivalent of Christ's second coming, and is supposed to "have hundreds of billions of incarnations"—ever-present but unrecognizable to modern folk at the time he teaches his final dharma. The fat guy isn't actually Maitreya but just a southern Chinese monk called Budai who became famous for an attributed poem that includes the "hundreds of billions of incarnations."
