Im thinking about moving to BA for 2 months next fall. What would be better, for me to get an apartment or just stay in a hostel? How much does an simi decent apartment run to rent a month?

I agree with G.

Find a temporary apartment rental broker online by using search terms like "alquilar" "departamento temporario" "immobiliaria". Look for something that is fully furnished and includes everything. 2 year leases here are standard... fuck that.

Also check out CraigsList. It's really catching on in BsAs.

Depends how much you booze. Drink local liquor for savings. Goose and sodas are expensive.

I hear its 4 to 1 now.

When I was there it was 3 to 1.

At a grocery store, you can get 40oz size of Stella or Heineken for a couple of dollars.
A 12oz local beer at a bar for a few $. Mixed drinks are more, but still less than in say, LA or NY.

Inflation is on a rampage in Arg right now by the way. Especially regarding food products.

Living in BA now. 1500US is a lot. My Apt now is $1100 per month for 2 bedrooms and we're in prime real estate in the middle of Palermo. Single room you shouldn't have to pay more than $700 per month.

Going out is super cheap if you pre-game. And considering clubs don't open until 2AM there's no reason to not pre-game every night. You can get a bottle of decent liquor from a store for $5 tops. Coca cola is like $1.50.

All you really pay for is cover, and you get a free drink with your cover. Get a buzz before you head out, maybe drink one drink at the club and then go nuts until 6am.
Super cheap.

Also, how do you like living in Palermo? Would you rather live in other areas or is that the spot?

You'd be hard-pressed to find a "nice" studio in Palermo for a 700$us as a temporary rental It's possible, depending on demand, but most landlords charge at least 800$us for a good one in a desirable area.

I've stayed in a handful around town... Some have been great, others horrible. It helps if you get a cool landlord, like anywhere I guess.

It's expensive because it's a temporary rental. If you do what locals do... get your own furniture and 2 year lease, it's half that. That's how it worked in Rio anyway.

Well yeah, if you're down for a 2 year lease.

Still, it's not easy in for a foreigner (in Arg.) to get the 2 year lease.

You need things like a "guarantee" and the properly arranged visa situation to do it.

Hence a thriving temp. rental market

Yes, way cheaper (1/2 in some cases, like roosh thought). And pretty much essential unless you speak spanish, are flush with cash, have the right visa situation & know-how to lease a place for yourself.

Even locals need help of other locals a lot times (for the guarantee).

At least in Buenos Aires you have tons of apartment options. In Rio the supply is tight so you overpay for crap.

Confirmed. Lots of supply. Lots of options. Stating the obvious here, but more competitive prices are available if you look outside of the most desirable areas.

There's a visa entry fee by the way now for Argentina, payable upon entry. Costs 100$-150$us and i believe is valid for 10 years.
