Don't call pregnant women 'expectant mothers' as it might offend transgender people, BMA says

The advice comes in an internal document to staff outlining a raft of common phrases that should be avoided for fear of causing offence.

"The elderly" should be referred to as "older people", "disabled lifts" called "accessible lifts" and someone who is "biologically male or female" should be called "assigned male or female".

The BMA said the document was purely guidance for its staff on effective communication within the workplace, not advice to its 156,000 doctor members on how to deal with patients.

On pregnancy and maternity, it says: "Gender inequality is reflected in traditional ideas about the roles of women and men. Though they have shifted over time, the assumptions and stereotypes that underpin those ideas are often deeply-rooted."

It adds: "A large majority of people that have been pregnant or have given birth identify as women. We can include intersex men and transmen who may get pregnant by saying 'pregnant people' instead of 'expectant mothers'."

It recently emerged that a Briton who was born a girl but wants to become a man has put surgery on hold in order to have a baby.

Hayden Cross, 20, is legally male and had hormone treatment but not yet had sex-change surgery.

There are no other known cases of a transitioning person becoming pregnant in the UK.

The guide also advises against using the terms "born man" or "born woman" in relation to trans people, as these phrases "are reductive and over-simplify a complex subject".

Elsewhere, staff are told to substitute the words "surname" or "last name" for "family name".

"Mankind" and "manpower" should be avoided because it is "not good practice" to use a "masculine noun", instead swapped for "humanity" and "personnel", and listing prefixes for names such as "Prof", "Dr", "Mr", "Mrs" or "Miss" should not be put in a particular order on forms to avoid a "perceived hierarchy".

The document, which was published last year, also underlines guidance on language that has long been considered offensive, suggesting staff do not refer to people as being "spastic" or "mongol" but that they should be called a "person with cerebral palsy" or "person with Down's syndrome".

The advice came in a 14-page leaflet, called A Guide to Effective Communication: Inclusive Language in the Workplace.

The introduction to the document states: "This guide promotes good practice through the use of language that shows respect for and sensitivity towards everyone. The choice of appropriate words makes an important contribution towards the celebration of diversity.

"As well as avoiding offence, it is about treating each other with dignity and as equal members of an integrated community."

A BMA spokesman said: "This is a guide for BMA staff and representatives aimed at promoting an inclusive workplace at the BMA. It is not workplace guidance for doctors which is clear from the fact it does not refer to patients."

Conservative MP Philip Davies described the guidance as "completely ridiculous".

He said: "If you can’t call a pregnant woman an expectant mother, then what is the world coming to?"

Michael Nazir-Ali, the former Bishop of Rochester, told The Mail on Sunday: "I think it is sad that society is being pushed in this direction. God has made us man and woman, and mothers relate to their children in different ways than fathers. This ruling will confuse people about the vital role of mothers in bringing up their children."

The Roman Catholic Bishop of Portsmouth, the Right Reverend Philip Egan, warned it would cause "great confusion and harm".

He said: "It is Orwellian, isn’t it? Another example of people trying to control our thoughts and the way we speak."

However, Heather Ashton, from the transgender support group TG Pals, said: "We know that biological females are the pregnant ones but trans people are parents too, and this is massive step forward to prevent discrimination against them. The fact that the terminology is changing can only be a positive thing for everyone who wants to be a parent and has the right to be a parent."

This is a full on assault on the family - what the fuck is wrong with the word mother?!

The path of least resistance for large organizations is to just go along with whatever nonsense SJWs happen to be demanding at the time. Thus, you see every corporation pay copious lip service to "diversity" and "anti-discrimination," and sometimes go even further. Go a step further. When I'm in a relationship or married, I'm going to refer to my girlfriend or wife as "my future baby making factory" with a huge shit eating grin. Guaranteed to piss off the barren womb spinsters and make your woman hot and wet for you. Nothing turns on a woman like the thought of a dominant man impregnating her, especially in such a playfully sexist way to refer to her has a "factory".

No, its so we don't offend the one solitary woman who claims to be a man, who is going to stay a woman (presumably a very hairy woman) long enough to have a baby before going through with surgery to remove the bits that make having a baby possible, but she is legally a man and therefore an expectant father.

This reminds me of a story my friend told me.

He's a polite and likable person and has a lot of friends at work.

He told me that while he was on the phone with another employee (an obvious woman with a female name) that they were wrapping up a conversation and she had helped him out quite a bit.
As the phone call was ending he said "Thank you ma'am" because he's a polite human being.

About 45 minutes later the entire company got an email about respecting people's personal gender pronouns. This chick wants to be referred to as "they/them" and not "she/her"

It's now a company policy to require your acceptable gender pronouns in the signatures of their emails so people know how to address you.

Haven't been to a doctor in a while, and now, remedying that, I am finding out that this shit is fucking legion. Using my cheapo health plan, I went to the local clinic for a check up.

Looking at the pictures of the doctors on the wall, I see they are all women, except for one nerdy looking guy, and the girls look more manly than the guy.

A lot of prenatal care in this clinic, so it makes sense that on the other wall, there is a picture of a couple looking all loving and caring with with their new born. A lesbian couple.

Signing up, the receptionist asked me if I had any gender preferences as far as doctors went.

I said, yeah, I want a man.

She gave me this shocked look, and her mouth made a little "o" and I realized she was just going through the motions with me, and this question was really just for women/otherkin/trannies who felt uncomfortable with men doctors. Regaining her composure, she makes it her personal mission to make me go with a woman doctor.

Oh, he's really busy, all of our doctors are great, anyway he's a naturopath (Get that, a naturopath!), if you want to go with him, you will have to wait three months, if you go with one of the others, it will only be a week's wait.

I don't really care since I want an M.D., not a naturopath pansy prescribing me tincture of pansy, so I get assigned one of the chicks.

Don't care though, I am diverting myself playing "Guess the Gender" in my head as I watch the harpies pretend to work.

I am stumped totally on one creature in cargo pants and a shapeless sweatshirt, guy's haircut. I check for tits, and there seem to be none, so I figure it is the token low-t white guy, until I hear it speak.

It is reprimanding in a passive aggressive way the one woman behind the counter who looks like she has a husband, of course, and of course again, reprimanding her in a busy waiting room instead of taking her aside to do it because that is how these monstrosities roll, and what would be the fun of correcting someone when you can't humiliate them publicly?

And what was the horrible sin? She was telling the woman that when she took one of the expectant whatevers to a changing room prior to an ultrasound, she took the patient to the woman's changing room and it had made him really uncomfortable.

Yep. She was in deep doo doo because she took a pregnant woman to a woman's changing room just prior to getting an ultrasound.

So, even in the moment when you are just about to be brought into direct visual contact with the miracle of life, to see the tiny body, the arms, the legs, the little head, the magical life growing inside of you, at this moment, in real time, you would still rather take offense at something pointless.

The woman tried to defend herself for a second, saying she was only following protocol, though she soon gave that up when she found herself stared down by a cadre of church-lady-eyebrows, some drawn on, when every other person working there knew instinctively to stop their fake work and shame the hetero-normative outlier.

Realizing her only option was to, metaphorically speaking, go fetal and try to protect her head, she assumed the position, cringing and apologizing appropriately, until her biologically inderminate accuser was satisfied that maximum humiliation had been reached.

With one final twist of the knife, the torturer said to her, "You were doing a great job otherwise, I heard you were really holding down the fort." Ah, the shiv of the insincere and shallow compliment, the lesbo's version of standing over the person you just dunked on and flexing your bicep, and she was done. Guess it was catch and release day.

I keep thinking we get an exaggerated view of how bad it is out there because we are on the look out for examples of female chicanery, but whenever I make a foray into a female dominated territory, I find out that it is just as bad as we suspect.

The lunatics have indeed been given the master key that fits all the locks.

Thanks to the forum for chronicling all of this, as it allowed me to observe all the bad behavior with composure and a micro-smirk.

Its time for the fags to back off, I'm tired of their constant whining. We give in on a particular demand, they are back next week with a new demand, and on it goes.

Nobody can say gays are persecuted in todays society, I dont hold animosity for them but I dont like having their lifestyle crammed down my throat at every turn when in reality it repulses me.

Can we not just evacuate all these minorities, gay groups etc to an island somewhere, let them set up their own society and when it all goes to shit insist they must live by our rules if they want back in?!!

Seems the only way they will learn to stfu and just get on with it like the rest of us
