This could be an interesting bitcoin related development in Venezuela - and we will see how it plays out... Apparently, the Venezuelean government forced Venezuela's largest bitcoin exchange to shut down, and then Venezuelean folks were directed towards Local Bitcoins for trading, and local bitcoin has record breaking level volume in venezuela.

I recall that other countries had taken such hostile actions towards bitcoin previously, so in that sense, this shutting down behavior is not new.

The author of the below linked article describeds a variety of factors in which he believes that bitcoin has a solidly decent chance of reaching (or breaching) $2k before the end of 2017. He claims that his forecast is much more conservative than some other credible sources who are predicting BTC prices above $4k before then end of 2017.

Personally, I am not sure about how much weight to give to such predictions, but I still remain bullishly inclined, so maybe, based on current information and assumptions of quasi-normalcy in world and/or bitcoin related events, at this time, I would put about a 25% to 30% chance of $2k or greater and maybe about a 15% chance of $4k or greater. Those are whimsical ballparkings.

Here's another website (Alphaquotes) coming up with more than $2k for Bitcoin's fair market value.

As noted in some of the reddit comments, there are several folks who are skeptical of the methodology of Alphaquotes.

In Venezuela we are seeing the advantages of Bitcoin over regular fiat currency: that it is decentralized and therefore cannot be controlled by any single government, and that it is far easier to move. Also, despite its volatility, people have more faith in it as a store of value than a rapidly depreciating national currency. I think this is because, like gold, it is difficult to obtain, scarce, and cannot be forged. More Bolivar can easily be printed, but only a certain number of Bitcoin will ever be created, with increasing cost as difficulty increases.

Over the coming years, it is going to be interesting to see how this plays out.. and as you mentioned even interesting in respect to how bitcoin relates gold - both the similarities and differences with gold, too... and then also to see the extent to which governments may take different approaches to controlling the people's use of either or both (if they think that they can control such - I mean regulate)

Here's another article from today regarding the pending ETF considerations at the SEC.

I, personally, don't know what kinds of odds that I would place on the approval of an ETF, but I am kind of thinking that the odds are pretty decent in favor of it for some of the same reasons that are described in the article.

I'm considering getting RVF Gold membership, but want to pay with bitcoin, just as an extra layer of security prevent against doxxing. You can never be too safe when it comes to the SJW's trying to ruin your life.

What's the easiest, most secure way to get a wallet and exchange $19 worth of USD into bitcoin so I can pay Roosh? Any particular favorites of the ones you've used?

I'm not sure if I really have an answer to your question, so maybe another guy might be able to chime in.

I actually have my bitcoins in about 10 locations, so sometimes for privacy, I will send them between one address and another. I do like the blockchain.info wallet for direct transactions too, but sometimes I will send bitcoins from an exchange, such as BTC-e that may be less inclined to cooperate with KYC AML subpoenas from Governments.

If you are merely worried about DOXXing (rather than governments), then I think that your information can generally be safe on any of the services that allow you to switch addresses as you wish, so someone looking into the matter (especially something as low as $19) would not be able to trace back further transactions, as long as you are not repeating use of addresses beyond some minimum levels that are acceptable for your own preferences.

Initially getting the bitcoins through local bitcoins or something like that can also be helpful, but I would recommend buying more than $19 worth.. For example, my minimum is $300, so in order to get that small of an amount, you may need to locate a bitcoin ATM (which may charge higher fees, depending on your location).

I kind of wonder whether the claim of the below-linked article is true - namely bitcoin's volatility is dropping like a rock?

https://news.bitcoin.com/key-bitcoin-ind...ping-rock/

Yeah, sure, I could imagine such a low-volatility claim being made in late 2015 - after experiencing an extended period of prices in the $200s.

Further, bitcoin's price growth over the past 15 months has been 400% to 500%, depending upon at what point of $200 you begin to measure.

Maybe what is striking me a bit much about this article and these kinds of claims of low volatility remains that for me, they come off as a bit of wishful thinking. Yeah, lots of folks wished that bitcoin was less volatile - but that is not the case, and does not seem to be the near term future of bitcoin.

I project that as long as bitcoin's market cap is below $1 trillion, it is going to be considerably volatile - overall - even though it can also be recognized that the larger bitcoin's market cap, the more difficult to manipulate and the lowering of volatility.

Even if overall, I am projecting continued high volatility for bitcoin, it is certainly reasonable that from time to time we are going to experience extended periods of relatively low volatility as well.

My understanding is that there is a group of folks that describe themselves as the Satoshi roundtable, and they are not necessarily pro core, but they have had at least a couple of meetings.

In their latest meeting, they indicated that a vast majority of the meeting attendees were supportive of seg wit and the various innovations to bitcoin that would be brought by seg wit..

https://btcmanager.com/satoshi-roundtabl...map-ahead/

Even though we have this endorsement, we are not really seeing any signs of increased seg wit adoption, and some of the latest assertions that I read is that some of the miners (in china) are very reluctant to add segwit - largely because they feel as if they were not adequately consulted.. so in that sense they feel a bit reluctant to endorse seg wit (and maybe even a bit hostile to the idea). A rumor that may or may not continue to play out.... we will see?

I find the 20 day list of daily ATH highs to be interesting - even though currently, it is beginning to appear that the vast majority of those dates are becoming 2017 dates.

Goes to show that the BTC price rise, this time, is much more slow and kind of holding on to sustained higher daily averages.

Double top confirmed?

Just picked up some at $989 on the dip. I feel like anytime any "bad news" comes out people freak out like the worlds going to end and there's some great bargains. Quickly we rise back again and you can take your profits, sell on the dip and wait for the next crisis.

I bought a few weeks back at like $810 and $810, rode it to the high, then it crashed, I thought it would trade sideways for a few weeks so sold on the bump up to $920, then was kicking myself for not holding to $1050.

I bought in today at $989 which is typically higher than I'm comfortable getting in at but trying to build up my holdings again before this ETF date when the SEC has to allow or deny it. I think we could see a big jump if its okayed.

My strategy basically acccumulate holdings for the long term while buying on dips and flipping on highs doing a little swing trading to bring in some bucks as we go sideways.

Explain your seemingly wishful-thinking reference.

In the past week, we had a gain in BTC price of about 17% (from $920 to $1,075), and then in the past several hours, we had a correction that pretty much spiked so low to take away the whole gain but bounced back that more or less put prices into about the 10% correction territory (from the top point and currently floating in about the $970s as I type).

Sure, the situation is not over yet because there were about 13k BTC dumped on Stamp in about two hours (which a fucking lot of coins to dump), so we don't know for sure which way the price is going to go and whether the lower prices can be sustained or even continued to be pushed back down.

Are you suggesting that RVFers should sell or short at this price point? Are you shorting currently or have you shorted? I know that you cannot sell your BTC because you don't got no BTC, ever since you sold all of yours in the $200s in mid 2015 (a few months before the beginning of our current bull run).

At this point, from your point of view, when you say double top, are we talking about reality or wishes? And what are your price and time points that you would like to describe as a "double top?"

You are explaining the realities of trying to follow some system that is comfortable for you even though it remains quite difficult to follow or predict short term price movements.

I am glad to see that you are mostly able to sell some on the way up and buy on the way down, even if you don't exactly time the highs and lows very precisely, you are still able to extract some value in the whole process.

Big drop yesterday, it might be the start of the C wave of a flat ABC correction, the B wave stopping somewhat short. Or it might be the first correction (wave 2) of a new 5 wave push upwards.

What annoys me is the amount of KYC/AML crap you have to go through to get BTC. Giving my ID to a random person just puts me off buying completely. In addition to LBC requiring verification, individual sellers are also asking for it plus a picture of you holding the ID. This can be used for tons of nefarious purposes if in the wrong hands. Exchanges are also asking for the same shit otherwise you have limits that cap your account at pretty much zero. It's like BTC is becoming closer to a fiat currency with all the regulations springing up around it, but it does not have an ETF yet? That's a bit unfair. Especially when you consider the ultrashort/ultralong 3x ETFs which can wipe out 99% of your money but still get approved.

I thought that you could shop around to find direct sale folks who do not want to see your ID. So far, I have not required an ID from people. I thought about it a few times.

On the other hand, you gotta appreciate that any exchanges operating in the USA or under USA compliance are going to be subject to AML KYC requirements.... some are looser about it than others.

I don't know the way around the dilemma that you pose, except for searching for folks who may not require IDs to engage in direct sales.. and you know that they are doing it because they just feel that they are protecting themselves.. which seems to be less of an issue if they are sending bitcoins to you versus if they are receiving bitcoin's from you..
