I still think it may be risky heading to a place with the same sort of awful logistics as LA (extreme traffic and sprawl) but I reckon if Unchained lives in the heart of the city, these logistics can be negated.

It's my hang-up with places like Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Houston.

NYC and Chicago are logistically perfect with the 24/7 subway system and everything being walkable, in addition to everyone around you walking (you can literally roll out of bed and bang out several approaches in those two cities).

Maybe, you can do the same if you move to the heart of a Houston or Atlanta (like say Midtown or Buckhead).

Houston sprawl is becoming a problem, increasingly. Don't how how it is now with oil being down, but when oil was up a few years ago, people came in droves for jobs and traffic got much worse than it used to be.

There were a few times I tried to go daygaming, but finding parking at the Galleria on the weekend was such a bitch that I gave up and went home, or elsewhere.

If you want to "roll out of bed and bang out several approaches without needing a car", stick with Chicago or NYC.

Part of me is willing to trade walkability for better weather though I'd LOVE to not need to own a car. As a Cali boy not sure if I could put up with Chicago winters.

But I also can't discount the benefits of living in a city with perfect logistics. Living in the right neighborhoods in NYC or Chicago seems to automatically put you in the game. Chicago neighborhoods like River North and Lincoln Park seem to be optimal for getting laid, much like living in Manhattan in NYC.

If Midtown Houston and Buckhead ATL are poppin, I don't really need the rest of the city as far as game is concerned. I can just lock down my neighborhood.

The thing is with "car cities" is that daygame and approaches are much more forced. In a walkable area things are more natural and a bit easier. Plus you probably see more hotties walking around since no one drives.

I still have a year or so to narrow my decision down though.

And regardless of my home base, I hope to be able to travel often and explore what this great country has to offer outside of LA.

Just take an Uber. You can Uber from Midtown to the Heights via one of the roads that run through both and it's at most a 10-15 minute lift. Granted that's why it's better to start in Midtown or Montrose so you can either choose to Uber to the Heights or Rice Village while in either of the Heights or Rice Village your only choice is Midtown/Montrose

If your neighborhood has nice women rolling around daily then there's no reason to venture outside of it. Also, if your office is within walking distance or on a bus route, you can ditch your car (even in a city like ATL/HOU).

I wonder, though, if day game or street game is really possible in ATL/HOU/DAL. I know there are malls but I wonder if you can regularly find women walking on the sidewalk.

I don't live in the inner loop (talking about Houston here), but I do live in the city and occasionally have approached women that walk around/take the bus. I don't know if this holds true in the inner loop, but I highly recommend that you avoid women that are walking around. I'm not a judgmental person, but there is usually something wrong with a chick that is walking around and doesn't have a car in Houston. All I've experienced is weirdos and prostitutes (I don't p4p). Normal chicks without cars at the very least get a ride or uber around.

If you are interested in day game here I highly recommend grocery stores just after 5 pm. I've gotten more numbers than I can remember and a ton of dates from women I've met while they were shopping. Plus you can actually find different types of women depending on what type of store you go to. It isn't hard to create a niche just through day game.

If you do end up having to drive one thing I used to do was try to get numbers from women in cars around me while stuck in traffic. It takes a little practice but you can set up a steady source of numbers while at the same time killing your boredom in the car. I once got this MILFs number while driving and finger fucked her in a parking lot a day later.

Finished a short trip to Houston. Here are my observations.

1) Where to Stay
Midtown/ Montrose is probably the best area. It's more walkable, has a bunch of restaurants, bars and museums. A museum could be a decent place to run game, at least it worked for me...
Otherwise the North East part of downtown near Main Street because...
2) Talent
I only went out one night in Midtown, one night Downtown. There seems to be more 7+ Downtown which has higher end venues.
Midtown is more of an Average Joes feel. Overall I was not overly impressed with the talent in Houston, but perhaps I'm spoiled from spending the great majority of my last ten years outside the US.
Although, I have to say there were a lot more thick assed women than the rest of the USA.
3) Tinder
My Tinder was horrible. I'm worried that maybe they changed their algorithm because maybe I don't speak to most of my matches. Maybe it's just Houston.
4) Other observations
Houston isn't cheap. Had a few mediocre dinners in the $30 to $50 range.
People seemed nice but less cultured.
Houston is very spread out. A car is a must.


Conclusion:
As a location independent person I don't think it makes sense to live in the USA if you are single. The dating market is not great for men compared to many other places in the world. Houston seemed ok but nothing great. I also did a trip to Charlotte in the last six months and think that would be a better place to live than Houston for women, weather, food, quality of life.
If I had a ltr/wife I think there are better value options in the USA than Houston.

Does anyone have any intel on free parking at the college campuses in Houston? I'm mainly talking UH and Rice. I want to start day gaming regularly there, but not if it ends up adding up money wise. Both campuses are already pretty far from where I live so I already have to worry about gas money.

Ah.... West U has TALENT

but you need to understand that day game will be MOSTLY college aged girls..but the talent is REAL there

I go to the 24 hour right there(Rice Village) and there is definitely talent at that gym and I get to park in the garage lol.

I would say... the best way to do it is to hit the gym and leave your car at the garage and go day game and I heard the night life is decent...

It does get pretty humid over there though b/c of trees.

Talent wise again... coming from Dallas, I think the girls are hotter as in more likely to see/meet an actual "8" or higher when out in public/Galleria/gym/midtown/bars/etc... but the overall average is a toss up... but I would still give the slight nod to Houston.

Black women... yes. I'm white, and have primarily had a lot of luck so far with blondes here in my return to Houston(which is ironic b/c I left Dallas b/c I didn't like blondes lol). Anyways, as some have said, the black women here are VERY VERY attractive actually. I've double looked on 2-3 at least since coming back. Then again, when you work near Fannin and City Centre (Houston Center mall) and go to a gym near West U... I'm sure it works out that way LOL.

also, while there are "less" blondes here, I've found that the "quality" is better, as in there were WAY WAYYY more (fake) blondes in Dallas, and much less here... but they are more attractive physically and personality wise

Day game I say:
Galleria (if you can find parking LOL)
West U (use the gym lot) but understand it will be MOSTLY college girls, so if you're into that lol

Night Game:

Washington Ave (very good talent here) still amongst the best I think in the state, but everything is so damn spread out still on this street lol

So I've read through this thread, I'm newly divorced and looking to for a place to settle a year or so from now when I graduate business school--Houston seems like a pretty good fit for my purposes. -Unlimited sports and entertainment options (although lack of pro hockey sucks)
-Politically conservative (not the city itself, but the state and surrounding area at least)
-Hugely diverse city, which is tough to find in combination with the previous point and plays into the following point
-Last but definitely not least women; I tend to go for one of three types of women--Latinas, Asians, and blonde southern belles. Houston might be the only city on the planet that has all three in abundance; plus lots of Indians, the hot 5% of whom I've always been a huge fan of, and black chicks, who aren't my wheelhouse but who I've found tend to love me in the south

Cons:
-Logistics
-Fucking weather
-Lack of natural geographic beauty--45 minutes from the beach, 3 hour flight from the mountains; this will kinda suck after having lived in the PNW and California coast the last few years but I'll get over it
-Company I'm interning with this summer doesn't have a big presence in Houston, although I do have a couple other leads there

Me:
-Early 30s, white, 6'0, decent looking a little out of shape but working on it
-OK game, well traveled, military vet
-Recently divorced, no kids
-Will be graduating from a top-25 MBA next year, targeting finance and consulting
-Conversational (not completely fluent) in Mandarin
-Grew up in the northeast but have lived all over the country as an adult
-More interested in a solid rotation (and eventual LTR) than a different notch every night. I do care about flags but not notches


Do you Houston guys think I'm more or less on the right track here?

If I had your skill set I would at least explore finding a job somewhere in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan. In the least your dating opportunities would be better, and you probably could earn more.

Funny you mention that, I am looking at those as well, particularly the mainland and HK. Actually gonna be out that way in a few weeks scoping things out. Still, there are a few reasons why an overseas move might be tricky for me (not impossible) and I don't want to put all of my eggs in that basket, so if I do end up staying stateside I'm thinking Houston might be a good spot.

I think you're about spot on. Everything you said is pretty damn accurate... it is VERY HOT here though... That and the traffic are the two complaints(but I knew that coming here) and I just moved back down from Dallas.

For women... this city is a hoasis... Just stick around Midtown, Washington Heights, The Heights(in general), Memorial area, West U/Rice, Uptown/Galleria area and you'll be pretty much spot on what you're looking for

Houston has such a HUGE car culture which is awesome. My M actually I feel doesn't "stack up" here and I might look at a Cayman S or z06 soon to bump up the game and just have 2 cars. Just a heads up man, if you're a car guy.... you'll love it here, but there are so many other nice cars so lol...

Houston Center or "central downtown" like around Main/Fannin/McKinney is pretty good for day/work game too as I work in that area... ironically I worked near Bryan/Pacifica/St.Paul in Dallas... and the set up is the same tbh... tons of hot women (who are "down"), tons of shops and a underground food court with restaurants. After havng experienced both, I prefer Houstons honestly.. not only is the "quality" better but there's also more here. The COL is higher here than Dallas too, as someone mentioned, you're looking at a few extra $200-300 month for the same there, so just a heads up

Yeah I know what you mean about the cars--I've actually got a Corvette C5 (not my daily driver), nothing fancy but it's pretty solid on enlisted military pay and it can turn its share of heads--that is until the town in California I used to live in that had streets full of Ferraris and Lambos 51 weeks out of the year, the other week it had a huge classic car show where dudes from all over the world were driving around in million-dollar cars. I'm looking at selling the C5 sometime between now and when I graduate and putting a down payment on something a little more high-end (of course I'll also have to keep the station wagon I use to drive my slobbering, shedding 110 lb dog around)!

The Porsche handles A LOT different than ANY BMW I have ever driven and is generally more expensive so I can see how it' can be seen as more "exclusive" but it's all subjective in the end i suppose

Which is better Cost of living?

Montrose/Midtown or Downtown?

Which would be better for a late 20s professional who doesn't care about sports/college scene?

Also how big is car culture "really"? Are bitches really fuckin just cuz of a whip, or caring if you drive a newer model (2012 and up) regular economic car like a Corolla or an Elantra or a Civic?

Montrose/Midtown and Downtown are around the same in terms of price. Give or take up to a few hundred dollars. Montrose is where the Hipsters and Gays go for the most part. Midtown is where more of your stereotypical white preppy types go. Downtown is where people commute to work, homeless people live, and clubs and bars are scattered around.

If you are into day game at all and want to potentially pay less in rent I would personally move to the Galleria area, also known as uptown. You can find older apartment complexes that are still very nice on the inside a couple of lights down the street from the Galleria for $900 for a 1 bedroom. Living in that area also puts you about 10 minutes or so from just about any night game spot you would most likely want to visit.

I am not huge on night game, so I prefer to live in Southwest Houston. The rent is much cheaper so you can get a brand new apartment for about 800-900. Also where I live I have come into contact with women from every continent and dozens and dozens of different countries simply by approaching at grocery stores.

If you only want to be in one of those three areas that you mentioned (Montrose, Midtown, or Downtown) I would personally go with Midtown for now because as far as bars go it is the "it" spot and is close to everything you'd want for night game.

Yes, cars are important here. If you want to live in a place like midtown and only move about within 4-5 miles of where you live then you can uber everywhere I guess. If you live centrally there is also a small train system inside parts of the 610 loop and buses, but the only people I ever see taking those are nurses/doctors taking quick trips around the medical center or broke ass bitches.

I was born and raised in Houston and my opinion is if you don't have a car here there is something wrong with you (barring if you just live and die within a small radius). I've even made it a rule with very few exceptions not to approach any woman that is walking the streets because she doesn't have a car. More than 9 times out of 10 they are either prostitutes, drug or alcohol addicts, or HORRENDOUSLY broke.

Also if I remember correctly you live in LA. I have lived for years in LA. While not exactly as bad in this respect as LA, you will also encounter people here that are from a totally different part of town especially if you are night gaming or at a place like the Galleria. Chances are at some point you will run into a chick that you want to bang or get serious with that lives something like 15 miles away. So yes, have a car here even if you don't use it all the time.

A couple of things I forgot hence the edit.

Car culture here, based on how you defined it above, isn't really that big of a deal. Yes, if you drive a brand new Ferrari it will open many doors. Yes if you drive a 1995 Honda Civic with a busted out window a lot of chicks won't be feeling that. Other than that cars have never once been an issue for me and I have pretty much only driven Toyota, Nissan, Ford, and Chevy sedans. Never anything fancy. I've never heard anything negative. When I have driven sports cars in the past though it has been easier to get a girl's attention while driving when she is in her car though. Overall I wouldn't be worried about your car at all just as long as it's not a complete piece of shit.

Another thing I wanted to mention is that if I remember correctly you are black. In my opinion, of the places I've lived in America, including LA, Houston is probably one of the best places in the country for a black guy to live. I mean that only looking at it from the angle of what being black can get you. I think it is hard to deny that White guys, at least in America, are the most desired race. But in Houston I have seen more black guys with above average to very hot looking women than any other race. This may be because I live around black people and don't see all that many white people, or also because Houston has a very large black population, but I can't count the number of times I've seen black guys with 8+ girls here. I can't say what their level of game is which might explain why they are getting with these girls, but at the very least I regularly see very ordinary looking black guys with black girls that have bodies that are about as perfect as possible (and Houston is known for ass). Based on what I've seen if I was your average black guy and looking at the situation solely from a racial aspect, I'd certainly live in Houston. The only issue I could see is you definitely will not ever be the token black guy and stand out simply because of your race, which can be good or bad.
