The bank lent me $2m so I spent it on strippers and cars
http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-38308842

Luke Brett Moore, a young Australian, had just lost his job when he discovered his bank was mistakenly allowing him unlimited credit. It was too good an opportunity to miss. As he explains here, in his own words, he started spending and didn't stop - until one day there was a knock on the door.

- March 2010: Opens an account with St George Bank

- July 2010 to August 2012: Makes more than 50 withdrawals, apparently totalling $1,988,535.25

- December 2012: Police raid Moore's family home in Goulburn, New South Wales, but he is released on bail

- February 2015: Found guilty of obtaining financial benefit by deception and dealing with the proceeds of crime in Sydney District Court

- April 2015: Sentenced to between two years and three months and four years and six months in jail

- August 2015: Bail is granted after Moore represents himself in court

- December 2016: New South Wales Criminal Court of Appeal quashes his conviction

Let me get this straight. 2 million dollars, 50 withdrawals. Thats 40k per withdrawal. Considering he didn't withdraw this amount from an ATM. He obviously went to the bank and a human gave him this money. I don't believe this news. There are some things missing here. Withdrawing an amount like 40k will require the branch managers signature.

If the bastard was smart he'd have buried that two mil somewhere safe and made up a story about gambling and whores. 2.25 years in the clink would put the payday at a little under a mil a year (tax free to boot). Well worth it for the average schmuck.

As long as you claim to have lost it to seedy operators then there'd be no easy way to disprove your theory.

Not moral of course. Must be my convict heritage bleeding through.

if that happened to me I'd stop using the card, let it show up on my credit report, use it to prove credit worthiness to other banks, buy existing businesses with proven cash flow with the new lines of credit, and pay off the low interest debt asap, having never touched the original card that had a huge limit.

I don't think he actually "withdrew" money in terms of cash, but more "drawed" money from the account by spending it.

Pretty easy to do with strip clubs and buying cars over a span of 50 transactions.

Talk about a temporary horseshoe up his ass! The part that I liked was that he used his time in jail to study up on the law, then use it to his advantage. Since his attorney was shit he took it into his own hands. Now he's gonna study to become a lawyer. Not a bad turn out. Doesn't say anything about owing the bank though.

Wrong analysis here. He didn't withdraw the 2 mil at once. He withdrew it in a span of 2 years. The guy doesn't have a time machine in his hand how would he know he'd be able to withdraw 2 mil in 2 years?

He probably slowly spent the money and it added up in the long run.

Quote:My whole life was nearly ruined. It's only now that I've been able to turn my experience in to a positive. I'm currently studying law at university and will be a criminal lawyer in two years' time.

My six months behind bars gave me a unique perspective on jail. A lot of the people in there need help not incarceration.

Oh, fuck me. Why? Why is it every motherfucker who went to jail once wants to spend his life trying to get back inside it, if only to interview the people he was shit-scared of for six months? Why does every stupid bastard who does under a year or so think that the non-fixable scumbags who occupy most of our prisons suddenly are people who just need to be "helped"? Why do they all think hardened cons and mentally ill burnt-out cases are going to be saved by a guy whose only capacity to "help" them is to get them smaller sentences or get them out completely?

This is as bad as fucked-up girls from bad families always going off to study psychology.

RE: The bank lent me $2m so I spent it on strippers and cars
After a month or two of realising he had a temporary bottomless pit of money he should have been hiding 20k or 50k parcels of cash all around the place. The party would eventually stop, and the cops might find the odd parcel or two, but he could just claim he spent the rest on strippers and drugs and other cash purchases. Would have left him with a nice nestegg.

Though he is claiming that I guess. So maybe he was smart enough...

A guy who goes out and spends money that doesn't belong to him isn't going to have the foresight to save it in the desert or up some kangaroo's arse.

Should have been shuttling to Thailand with cash and depositing it in a bank. Easy to open bank account there.

The women are so shitty in the Anglo world, that men such as the one in the BBC article would spend $2m on strippers.

2.5 months free of porn and strip clubs. So fucking proud of myself. Using that sexual energy for game on foreign women and career shit

One could move to countries in Asia, East Europe and Latin America and live a very privileged live.

2 millions put you in the top 1% in many countries, you can buy a beach mansion with least than 200K in many countries.

Same kind of narcissistic hubris that makes one think that withdrawing 2 mil of other people's money is okay, and on top of that not even being particularly smart about the caper, and apparently either not thinking or not caring someone somewhere was going to be extremely pissed-off about it. tard

Quote:This is as bad as fucked-up girls from bad families always going off to study psychology.

They never seem to learn much about narcissistic hubris! That's unfortunate.

One time several years ago I was using one of my bank's automated phone systems to check something out on my account. Somehow I either entered my PIN code, account number, or both incorrectly, and suddenly that computer voice comes on the line and says something like "Welcome! Your checking account balance is $237,000. Command?"

I quietly hung up.

Noting wrong with the analysis.

The second you realise that you're overdrawing more than you're supposed to be allowed to you have two options. Either ring the bank and inform them of the error or go online and check your credit limit.

Simple.

Well gee I don't know, realise its a mistake and point it out? The guy is lucky AUS is lenient on him because I've heard of a few stories like this and they didn't end well.

"I didn't know" is not a good reason. He knew something wasn't right but stupid is as stupid does.

I wonder what would happen to him if he found a briefcase full of money. Laugh
