You guys ever heard of ASMR?

I first came across it on DeliciousTaco's brilliant blog. Alot of people swear by it as being a great way to relax...

Just to be clear. There is absolutley nothing sexual about this. Alot of people seem to think there is when they first hear about this. So - don't go in thinking along those lines...

The ASMR video you linked to has being taken down. Shame since it is one of the better ones I have seen.

Still - I have yet to make up my mind as to how susceptible I am to this. I guess I get bored pretty easily.

This stuff is awesome. The voice on the sides of my ear hit me the most. It actually tickled me on my obliques and I chuckled a little.

There could be something in it. Apparently ASMR is trying to recreate the feeling you get when you get a haircut (to give one example).

Which is interesting since I find haircuts incredibly relaxing.

I watch these all the time when I need to get to sleep.

Maria (the blonde in the first video) is great. She goes by gentlewhispering. She's Russian.

I like HeatherFeather. ASMRNOvastar. Whispersweetie. Northerwhispers14. Calmingescape and several more.

I've been watching them for a couple of years, but it has really exploded in the last few months. There used to be just a handful to a dozen making the videos now there are hundreds and hundreds.

The whispering from ear-to-ear is relaxing for me and some of the role plays if they are softly spoken.

I used to get ASMR when I was a kid when I watched anyone write on paper next to me. Or read a story in a gentle voice.

They seem kind of ridiculous at first, but they really work for me.

I find it easy to relax. Just put my feet up and read.

But - I know some people have trouble relaxing. So - for them - something offbeat like this might just do the trick.

I just recently found out about ASMR.

I've been experiencing it for years though. I never had a term for it. I would just listen to videos of people talking quietly that made me "tingle".

It's basically the opposite of being frightened.

I watch massage videos for the same type of feeling.

It really sucks though because I get so relaxed I fall asleep 5 minutes in.

1980s TV show painter Bob Ross is the original old school KING of ASMR

Both his calm voice and sounds of the paint brushes on the canvas made millions watch his show before most people even knew what ASMR was.
He died back in 1995, but over 400 episodes of his "The Joy of Painting" TV show are all over youtube and still watched by millions.
