Struck me that on the old western frontier, this might have been a very sensible and practical advertisement to nail up at the town hall or church notice board. In that context, she'd likely have been a widow looking for a new husband for respectability and security for herself and her new child, and offering something in return (marriage and a big family in an environment short on women) a man of that era would have wanted. Practical for all concerned, with romance something to be worked out - as it seemed was awfully common back then, frontier or elsewhere.

Now?

The very same things that would have made her attractive to a single man on the frontier are red flags for the single man of the modern era: she comes across as being a careless carousel rider who got herself knocked up and abandoned, and is now looking for some sucker to take care of her/shift her unwanted responsibilities onto. I'm not very familiar with the history of the Old West but I suppose women who remarried at the time did so for serious reasons, like the father of their kid was dead. And in that sense, the second husband wasn't a cuck, apart from the fact that the wife was probably young enough to give birth to his children too.

Yes, we're in agreement. I sorta shifted gears in that post up above, but I was talking about the widow with kids coming across as just another irresponsible carousel rider in online dating. The actual irresponsible carousel riders getting themselves knocked up and then looking for a husbabysitter have poisoned the well for the unicorn who was a responsible adult but finds herself a "single mom" only due to the death of her husband.

My late grandmother and late grandfather on my dad's side were such a couple.

My grandfather was previously married and his wife died. My grandmother was previously married and her husband died. They both had children from their previous marriages. They met and got married and had two children of their own. Old school.
