What shoes do you gentlemen wear with darkish, slim jeans and a V-Neck Tee? I think most casual shoes these days either look like shit or look to mainstream. For example, basketball shoes, Vans and Converses. I recently bought a couple of pairs of black boots, one in leather and one in suede, and think they suit the look but not sure if experts would agree?

My go-to is my Dr. Martens 2976:



They are a bit chunky but I can't recommend them enough. Very durable and comfortable. Can't tell how many times they've been complimented.

If I'm hanging out at some low key spot, I'll sometimes wear a high top white Chuck Taylor. If more dressed up, dark brown leather Chelsea boots.

My everyday footwear switches back and forth between black leather boots and light brown brogue shoes. Both look great with a pair of slim jeans. I only wear sneakers when I'm at the gym, working on my car, or going to a metal/punk show.

Adrenaline, boots are a good match with that type of outfit. Either a slim profile Chelsea like Carmina/Sid Mashburn/Saint Laurent Paris, or a more rugged service boot style like you'd get from Oak Street/Truman/Viberg. These are all pricy options, but you can find good deals used with a little searching, and there are brands out there which make cheaper versions.

Red Wing is accessible but avoid the clunkier models that look too work-boot-ish. Beckmans are a good choice (as are similar models from Alden, and Wolverine 1000 Mile.) I like the double monks pictured but they're too dressed up for wearing with a tee, these are shoes that look good with a nice oxford cloth shirt and some chinos.

Another option are sneakers like Common Projects Achilles, which look much classier than your typical Converse, etc. They're very expensive new but often come up lightly used for much more affordable prices, and the leather quality, construction, and profile are immaculate. Check sites like Grailed.com frequently.

Speaking of light wash jeans, I like slim fitting ones with streetwear-inspired outfits. Any other kind of fit looks too much like dad jeans to me. And with light jeans, make sure they're a uniformly light wash with no fake creases. For all-purpose every day wear, there are now plenty of affordable unwashed or one-washed options from Levis (like the 511 Rigid) that look much better than distressed ones, and will fade decently over time.

It may not be your style, but jeans are still great in a variety of situations and in most colors. Yeah a lot of average joe schmucks are out their wearing bad Arizona blue jeans but that doesn't mean the concept of blue jeans is unacceptable.

^First pic has grey jeans and the second pic is a perfect example of the kind of look I hate(he looks good because he's attractive himself).

For the rest of the guys(excepting the one with just the collared shirt and jeans where it works) they look good in spite of their jeans than because they look good because of them trade those jeans out for anything else and they'd look twice as fly. All the rest of their clothes stand out much more than the jeans.

That's just my 2 cents take it as you will.

I play rugby so sometimes it's hard to find jeans that fit good and not too loose at the same time.
I tried type C from G star raw but after a while, they don't fit the way I want to any more.
Recently I purchased a pair of black jeans from Acne Studios for 180 euro, a little bit on the expensive side. But they are worth it in my opinion. I've been wearing them at least 80% of the time since I got them (2 months) and they are holding up really well.

I'm looking to get a couple more pairs because for jeans, once you find that one model that fits perfectly, you stick with it. The brand is from Sweden so it's cheaper to buy them in Sweden (about 20% cheaper).

Another source for jeans is http://www.gongshowgear.com - perhaps not the most fashionable, but as a former semi-pro player, I would have killed for jeans that fit around my legs and ass back in the day. Most of the rugby players I know had the same leg size issues that I had, so there may be some crossover.

How to get good at buying clothes and looking good

1) Read a few books on the topic, very few
2) read style forum
3) look at men's wear blogs and analyze what is happening with the photo. I look through about 300 a day.

These three things will teach you to look at people as eye pleasing shapes moving through the world, as opposed to a collection of tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories

More than picking this season's boots, you want to train your eye. Most guys can identify a car by its shape, the headlights, the taillights. They can spot how much Hyundai is ripping off German luxury cars in terms of looks.

Fashion/Style, is exactly the same. But because fashion is gendered, they don't take those visual classification skills and use them

Just shop smart. I use amazon.

Can find good looking shoes for about $50, a blazer for about $50, pants about $30; then all you need to put the icing on the cake is some El Wal-Marte or Targét T-shirts man. Maybe you up the ante and get some graphics t's.

One of my favorite combos is my black chino jeans, black monk shoes, white blazer and white pugs shirt. Bitches can't help but comment on the pugs, but you look fly at the same time because of the blazer.

Haha that pug t-shirt, I can see why you like it so much.

White blazers are pimp but a nightmare to wear in clubs full of drunks. You will be lucky to come away without various drinks and stains. Talking from experience unless you like daily dry cleaning bills, it's not worth the hassle.

hasn't been too bad yet. Most places I go to are more social bars. But I had to get it dry cleaned once because some chick got her makeup on it.

I guess this is a good thread to bring up the topic of underwear.

I fucking hate boxer briefs, I want to like them because they fit better underneath pants and they look better when your getting naked with a woman but they are so uncomfortable and its a pain in the ass when you have to piss. I've tried Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, 2xist, and a few others.

What do you guys wear? Closest thing I've found to perfection is Micheal Kors boxers but I'm still shopping around for the ideal underwear.

I pretty much only use trunks by MeUndies (modal - supersoft) or Calvin Klein (either cotton/elastane or microfiber). They look good, the shorter legs are much more comfortable and breathe better.
