Do yourself a favor and stay as close to school as you can. The traffic in Bogota is not only horrid and will eat up all of your time but you'll be sucking in exhaust fumes while you sit in traffic.

SanMiguel, have you considered going to another country first before Colombia for Spanish lessons? You could go to Nicaragua,Guatemala or Ecuador and do private Spanish lessons for the same price as group lessons in Colombia and learn a lot faster.

Obviously those countries have a steep drop off in girl quality but if you could do a month of private lessons, probably about 80 hours worth you would have a much better Spanish base for future learning at a school in Bogota.

You should be able to get private lessons in any of those countries for between $5-7 USD an hour.

You don't have to do that. I paid 50 mil for three hours of tutoring everyday in Colombia and she came to my house everyday. That comes out to about 6-8 bucks an hour.

And finding a tutor is simple , walk into a hostel and ask for a list of tutors and their phone numbers.

Question about AirBNBs in Medellin:

Most of the nice ones at $150-250 a night don't have air conditioning, yet the crummy $50 ones seem to have air conditioning.

Any advice on this? I'll be there in a couple weeks and I prefer to not sweat my balls off at night.

The main reason to study Spanish in a place like Guatamala or Ecuador isn't because of the cheap price, it's because the women in those countries are so damn ugly that you'll actually get some studying done, unlike in Colombia!

I definitely agree with this. Especially for a month or two. I started with Spanish lessons in Bolivia. Far from the mecca for girls but classes were only $3 USD an hour and really good. (Though Guatemala or Ecuador would be better for girls). In Bogota it will be a lot more expensive at an institute, so you'd want to find something privately. Also Bogota is super expensive for decent accommodations. You'd probably have to pay close to a grand for a month airbnb at calle 85 con 15.

I guess if your rolling in green its not that important. I kinda like Bogota despite the fact theres horrible traffic, pollution and ghettos, though its the cost of living which bothers me for what you get.

Are you talking about Medellin in general or just the Poblado area? I've never seen a tourist or a prostitute in areas of Medellin other than Poblado, but I haven't been back there in quite some time.

True, you don't need air-conditioning in Medellin, it is not Cartagena. Well, if you will be renting an AirBnb apartment in Medellin for some time, you could buy a 20 USD portable air fan, in a local shop, and you put this tool at the foot of your bed (which would also protect you and your lady friends from mosquitoes, by the way)... An air fan is better for the health than air conditioning anyway, or so am I told.

Good advice on looking elsewhere for cheaper lessons but I don’t mind paying a bit more to be in Bogota with more to do and better girls. And if I’m going on dates over there it will be like having free (sort of ..) 1-2-1 lessons anyway - with some extra curricular activities

The hard part will be finding a balance between focusing on learning Spanish and going out partying/dating. Like scotian said being somewhere where there’s less to do, or less nice girls to distract you would definitely help!

Yes I stayed there, but still I saw many when I tried the shopping malls too. Rionegro or something, was many clubs there, also a lot tourist.

But in what other areas are good to stay, safe and not so many tourist?

Going to Bogota the first week of October for a month~. How would you guys compare it to Medellin? I had only a few days in Medellin when I wasn't with my main chick, so I didn't get to do too much gaming but I did have about 3 dates (One 8-8.5~ girl off tinder, the 19 year old maid of one of my apartments (7.5-8), and another tinder girl who I wasn't really into but would have banged, 7~). I set high standards and generally will only be investing time for girls at least 7+ even if it takes a couple dates to seal the deal.

In my head I'm expecting it to be similar to Lima but with hotter girls on average. Are there less tourists in Bogota compared to Medellin? I have pretty good spanish and can extend my time there if I like it.

Gilly, I like the girls in Bogota MUCH better than Medellin. I know that everyone here is likely tired of my comparisons, but you're new and perhaps you didn't read through 21 pages of this thread.

The Bogotenas, in general, are more educated and have better attitudes. To me, they're much prettier. They will also not be as likely to try to milk everything they can out of you. The Medellin girls struck me as shallow, as evidenced by their fake titties and plastic asses. And the Bogotenas tend to have real jobs and will pay for things. As a side note to this, when girls share date expenses in America, we call it "Going Dutch." But in Colombia, they call it "Going American" just in case some girl asks you if you wanna go American.

The Paisas (Medellin girls) are flaky to the point that it can make you start to hate women. Head games galore. They will take whatever they can from you. On a date, the most expensive meal on the menu and the Stella Artois beer is what she wants. Not because she actually wants it, but because it's the most expensive thing on the menu. Bogotenas don't do that so much. They may just want an appetizer and 50 cent Poker beers.

Paisas will often unexpectedly bring a girlfriend along with her to your date. And you're expected to pay for both of them. Because you're a rich gringo and why shouldn't they get what they can out of you? They're using you. Gringos got wise to this and started hooking up with the friend instead, because fuck that girl for doing this. But then the Paisas got wise and now they bring their ugly fat friend so you won't do that.

So, what I said above is of course generally speaking. I hate stereotypes, but stereotypes exist for a reason. The Medellin girls will tend to use you. They're fun and pretty; don't get me wrong. But they can be very fake and will take advantage of you. And I'm sure some Bogota girls will, too. But on average, there's much less bullshit with Bogotenas. And didn't I mention... the Bogota girls with good jobs will pay for shit, and that to me shows good faith that you're not just sugar daddy gringo to them. Or maybe Bogotenas are just better at playing the long con. I don't know.

I disagree. Ive spent considerable time in both places. I am not sure how long you've spent in medellin or what social circles you roll with or how you meet your dates but that has not been my experience at all in Medellin.

There are girls who will take advantage of you in any city in Colombia. Some paisas are gold diggers but to make it seem like the majority are that way is not true at all. I have dated so many quality girls in Medellin who are nice, normal and beautiful university students and never ask for a thing. None of these girls had fake tits or plastic asses. In fact Id say if you are dating girls with fake tits and plastic asses in the first place then of course you gotta expect that hooker attitude in some of them. I am attracted more to natural beauty and there is more than enough of that in medellin.

Girls all over the world are flakey. Medellin has flakes but I've been flaked on just as much in Bogota or the coast. Ive never had a date bring a friend, Never had a date order the most expensive thing just because, and never felt like I was being used. Most of my first dates consisted of a walk around one of Medellins beautiful parks enjoying its perfect spring time weather while drinking a Cosechas ($2 juice)

Trust me Gilly, if you have above average good looks and some style and a good personality you will meet the girls who want to date you because you're cool and nothing more. It is easier to get laid in Bogota but you mentioned you like to find quality girls. Both places have them but the quality of life has been so much better for me in Medellin.

Of course this is just my experience and there is no right or wrong. Just what works for you. So go try them both and decide for yourself. But take my word for it. All paisas are not out to take your money and there are plenty of high quality girls who are looking to meet cool guys and form real connections.

I don't think I was out of line with my observations about the Paisas. It's a pretty common theme in Medellin.

And I don't date hookers. Never paid for sex in my life. Except for dinner, drinks, flowers, football tickets, vacations... shit, I guess I still paid for it.

I think my downfall in Medellin is like my downfall anywhere else. I tend to drink a lot. Not as in 24 hours a day, but as in whenever I'm awake. So I meet a lot of bartenders and waitresses. Which in Medellin is where the girls seem to be.

But in Bogota, I met girls with economics and law degrees and they were professional women. And I was still hanging out in bars in Bogota, too.

I don't know, man. Everyone has different experiences in a place. And I did in fact date one girl with fake titties once, a flight attendant for Delta. I just don't care much for it. And in Medellin, the fake titties are all over.
