I have a decent pair of Allen Edmonds 5th Ave oxfords. The problem is that they seem too tight, so my feet hurt a little while wearing them. Also, it's a little uncomfortable to walk in these shoes.

I've been wearing them at the work to break them in and changing to sneakers to walk to/from work, but after about a month they still seem too tight. Is there anything I can do to make them wider? The length is fine, it's just the width.

Shoes be stretched. I had some boots that I had stretched out a lot. Fit much better afterwards. Take them to a cobbler.

If you haven't had them too long I would return them and get one size or at least a half size bigger. I used to always by 11.5 US men's, and it was always a roll of the dice whether a show of that size was too tight or just right. So I started buying 12's and every pair I try on feels great and doesnt feel too roomie or like I'm wearing clown shoes. A little extra length in the toe is fine.

Point worth noting, for my Ferragamos, the first pair i bought the store gave me a free pair of their $50 shoe trees. They are awesome and goes to show that sometimes when you go to the higher end stores they take care of you. I have 2 pairs and currently rotate my shoe trees in between both shoes depending on which ones i wear.

also if you damage them, they will usually look it over and try to repair it for you.

I got 2 pairs of oxfords from Ferragamo. One thats black and another thats brown. Love both of them. They were each $700 roughly but they will definitely last a lifetime. Have thin rubber soles put on the bottom because the leather soles are not enough for regular street use.

It might also be good to include in here how to care for your dress shoes. Leather care is a timeless practice that all men should be familiar with especially when looking to get longevity out of a very nice and expensive pair of shoes. Also, proper shoe maintenance can make it look better than when you took it off the shelf.

$700 shoes deserve a leather sole. It will wear out, sure. Resole them periodically.
It is also preferable to not wear the same shoe every day. You want to let the shoe dry from your perspiration.
With black shoes that is not a problem--you don't wear black every day. Brown shoes you will have in several styles and shades. Alternate.
