The Game by Neil Strauss. Opinions?
A happy new year to you all.

The Game by Neil Strauss, any reviews, any readers of this book? Was it a game changing book for you or just another self-help piece of crap?

I'm basically looking for tips in a book I read, such a little talk, body language, negging, because I'm fucking useless at playing women.

Beating a Dead Horse

Neil Strauss is just a profiteer. That's all you need to know about him.

RE: The Game by Neil Strauss. Opinions?
There isn't too many examples in the book. However, the book is beautifully written. It opens your eyes to exactly how game should work and be applied. The book makes you want to go out and talk to woman as you read it. There is lots of detailed stories about Neil picking up girls. It makes you think, Well hey if Neil can do it, so Can I..
I highly recommend reading the book. I recommended it to friends of mine and they all loved it. It introduces you the world of pick up artists; giving you the motivation to attempt to become a PUA.
It's a very easy read. Reading The game definitely will definitely not be a waste of time. In fact, reading The Game caused me to begin doing more research on Game which ultimately led me to this forum. I would not be on this forum had I not read The Game..

Helpful Sly, thanks. Just to make it clear, I'm talking about the hands on Game book, not his biography one.

Where did you go from there, where did you learn more from, just literature here there and everywhere?

I enjoyed reading the game, it's an entertaining story that gives you some background on how the whole PUA industry/culture, etc. got started. It's not something I'd recommend if you're only looking to get get good info. and advice on how to improve your game, there is not much you'll get out of it in that regard, however it might motivate you to get out in "the field".

Overall I recommend it, but if you're a newbie who wants game advice, than start with Bang.

So you're not talking about "Penetrating the Secret Society of Pick up Artists?".
You're talking about "Rules of the Game"?
If so, I did buy this book but I didn't complete it. It is a 30 day challenge which is supposed to help you get dates if done properly. You read 1 day at a time. Being a student, time can be scarce. Especially around midterms and finals. So i decided to quit reading it and read a book about body language instead. I couldn't commit one hour a day to Neil's Rules of the game book.

I've read a lot of PUA shit. The best ones, by and large, remain The Mystery Method, Bang, and Day Bang. For free stuff, Heartiste's blog is just as good as any of the books.

Take it slow, man. You're clearly new to this stuff. It took me years to get good at game, so be patient with yourself. Learn a bit more every day and before you know it you'll be an expert.

David D'Angelo's old school 'Double Your Dating' is good if you're starting out and has basic ideas and concepts which will help if you're new to this stuff.

The book has its moments. I like that interview at the end with the "original" pickup dude Eric Weber (the dude who wrote the original pickup book way back in the 70s).

RE: The Game by Neil Strauss. Opinions?
I would say that this book was a game changer for me because it really opened my eyes to what could be done, plus it's an entertaining read.

With that being said, I would not recommend following the stuff in it to the letter (i.e. peacocking where you dress up like a clown). If you want to learn more about how to carry yourself, talk to women, etc, I'd highly recommend you look at other guides (i.e. Bang, Magic Bullets, whatever floats your boat) as they are more comprehensive and lay things out in a more organized fashion.

RE: The Game by Neil Strauss. Opinions?
I think the book is very unrepresentative of reality, kind of what Hollywood films are to real life, very sensationalised. But it does give a good grounding and introduction into the community and the world, albeit in the 'PUA' sense.

When I read it too, I along with many guys I'm sure had my 'ephiphany moment' and had the realisation that through certain methods you can meet the women you want (and bang them!) - not looked back since.

RE: The Game by Neil Strauss. Opinions?
I stumbled upon that book when I was at this chick's place and decided to check out her library (love girls who read!) and saw this fancy looking black book with a red string thing attached to it as a book marker, my first question was, WTF are you doing reading this book? She said it was hilarious and a good read, so I borrowed it.

Its alright, good for motivation but isn't really a pick up guide per se. I bought his other book out of curiosity but didn't end up reading it because it just seems cheesy and lame, this was around the same time I discovered this forum, I"m half way through Bang, pretty good so far!

I've mentioned it before but this is a great book:

http://charismaarts.com/how-to-meet-and-connect

It's 40 bucks which is retarded for an ebook, but you can find it on torrent sites or wherever.

It's the complete antithesis of Mystery/Strauss stuff but this guy is for real and it was a huge game changer for me.

definately not.

i read the game almost five years ago, and it was an introduction to the whole game/pickup artist scene. it's incredibly outdated now and I see it as worthless (as far as game is concerned). treat it as you would a historical text or a hollywood movie.. it will give an entertaining story "based on real events" and help you understand that early PUA movement, but that's it.

Paul Janka was the first contact I had with "game literature".
looking back I think that it helped me with some aspects of my game.

But the problem with his game is that he is a very good looking guy himself, so most of his caveman game style will not work if used by an average looking guy.

I wouldn't ignore Mystery, you can find the PDF of the Mystery Method book easily from Google and torrents. He got that shit down to a science and there's tons of good information in there. You don't have to follow the routines and techniques word-for-word though, adapt it to your own style. His game theory is straight crack though.

Neil Strauss is doing an 'ask me anything' thread on Reddit - don't have time to look through it right now but there might be something interesting on there.

If you haven't read any pick up literature before, definitely read it.
It's a good read, and gives you an idea of what the "ideal" is.

In terms of actual tips and practical advice, most people need things spelled out for them, like a recipe. Pick pretty much anything else.

Most people who criticize Neil, Tucker Max, Tyler, Mystery, et cetera, don't really get the community or what pick up was before those guys, what it became, and how it's pretty much fizzled out at this point.

I think you could almost always learn something, about writing if about nothing else, from a 7-time NYT's Best Selling author.

Get real, that's light-years beyond what most writers ever accomplish.

RE: The Game by Neil Strauss. Opinions?
I dunno man. Neil Strauss's "The Game" was like watching Inception.
Reading it blew my mind the first time, then later I would reread it and better appreciate the details, but it never had the same magic as the first time I read it.

I think that it's a great book and really well written, and the biggest thing you can take from it is basically a point on inner game.

Treat your inner game right and neglect your outer game, and you'll endure the field for a much longer time than if you did it the other way around. Ignore your inner game and strengthen your outer game and you turn into a robot. You trade guaranteed success (mystery's brain-numbing club game) for peace of mind (not turning into a Cube routine high-fiving dicktard).

I dunno about profiteer. He made money but that's player cred yeah? He also documented a pretty great time in the history of pickup.

Not sure why you would ignore him or Mystery and "trust" Tyler Durden. Durden has never contributed anything to the field because he's emotionally retarded and consistently does not bother with the lay. He knows more about 1995-2005 era pickup than anyone else alive, and can continually regurgitate shit until people believe it's new material. 80% of his game *(and basically RSD) is copy-pasted from Mystery's method anyway.

Also second Mystery having the best and most strongly structured game of any pickup artist alive. Make no mistake, this dude is a scientist. You could probably read his book a hundred years from now and still reliably pull bitches at a success rate unrivaled by anyone. Most of his game sounds and looks really chatty and gay but I have seen it work and it obliterates anything and anyone else in the field. His only flaw is that he is not the best pickup artist, since he does not understand the need for inner game.
