But there is also something else going on.

It's the same here in Aus. Drinking and drug use have both declined on average compared to even 10 years ago.

This is anecdotal evidence but I'm currently dating a millennial and her friends don't go out anywhere near as much as my friends and I did at her age. When they do go out they don't party as hard as we did either. In fact I still go out more and party harder at my age now than her and her friends do.

It's the 80/20 rule as has already been pointed out. A percentage are partying hard and doing drugs but the vast majority are taking a tamer view.
At least in Australia I think it's due to the reduction of drinking culture on campuses and a long term and consistent media/government campaign against drinking, smoking and drugs.

Also, there are just so many competing options for peoples attention these days. Why go out and do something like organizing to catch up with your friends or chase tail when you can talk to them on facebook messenger, watch youtube videos, read buzzfeed and play video games. Or if you're horny, watch some free online porn.

So much entertainment is available these days with the click of a mouse and zero barrier to entry. Things that take effort find it hard to compete with that.

This is something that most parents would never admit to, but can point out in other parents and will make no hesitation to talk behind other parents backs.

Kids have a hardwired part of their brain that pushes them to be independent, to 'help' out, even in the most basic toddler level, and to push the boundaries of their parents. If a teenager has spent most of their life trying to massage these boundaries they will have adapted a type of behavior that will need to explore. This is the "non structured environment" that DOBA is getting at.

I am curious to see my sons peers through his life, and how my generation raises the next. We are mostly older parents, certainly much older than my parents andthey did not know much about being a parent at all. My generation also has unwanted advice thrown at them from all places and the experience of partying and hedonism in their 20's with no real consequences and learning about the tricks and troubles of the world. Its no wonder older parents are so up tight.

Got this from a reddit post, but it's based on the figures in the article. 5.4% of women Millenials haven't had sex but 15% overall haven't had sex. To get that number, assuming an equal number of men and women, that means 24.6 percent of men haven't had sex from age 18-24.

For those born in the 60s, it was 2.3% of women, and 6% overall, meaning 9.7% of men born in the 60s hadn't had it.

Your expectations become so low that you're mailing it in. Guys become increasingly desperate and go out looking for that mirage in their desert of thirst. Women are all over the place in terms of their expectations and standards for nights out but the one thing remains clear, they want their Academy Award recognition. And with this mismatch of social norms, men go low and women go high, completely missing each other. Enough misses and they've stopped swinging.

It seems western men are being left out regarding sexuality. My 20's have been mostly sexless and I had friends that were virgins in there mid 20's and hadn't really even had real girlfriends. There's plenty of women out there who are looking for "the one". Whilst they are going on dates in which they and act all shy and conservative, they have another male friend that they do all kinds of shit with it in the bedroom. With the male friend, it's just sex - neither she nor the male friend want to take it any further than sex.
