^ I suppose it would have been wiser to be specific in that I was referring isolationist Survivalism.

RE: The Survivalist movement. Is it a sham?
The timing for me of reading that "missing link" was twilight zone-ish. I just read something regarding theology and the end times, and a notable portion of it was to explain precisely what he is talking about: depopulation.

I take sensationalist (read: eschatological) things with a grain of salt, which is also the teaching that my tradition adheres to, but the degradation of society and being a male in it, especially one who is accomplished and came from a classic family structure without any issues (rare these days) is so obvious that it's hard to not notice it everywhere. The relativists have no idea because they don't believe in anything, nor were they taught to do anything but survive and enjoy the whims of life --- if they can.

That was a fascinating read (the "Jeff hypothesis". Was it from the [Roosh] book?

One of the things that I started to do long ago is to know how to cook what I like. I am no Gordon Ramsay, but I refuse to stave because I don't know how to cook. The TV Dinner Kids have grown up and have no idea how to boil water.

On the topic. I don't see it as a problem to have emergency reserves, and know how to live outdoors. Before I start buying what someone is selling, I would look to other venues. Two places where I would go would be your local Army Surplus or Sporting Goods store for something comparable. There are some cool youtube videos for things like how to make basically a time capsule to bury supplies. Other than that use your imagination and common sense. No one ever knows when shit will hit the fan, and short of a major war to include nuclear weapons, it wont be as bad as everyone thinks it will be.

Unfortunately, due to agri-scientific cuckery, I have not yet been able to find potatoes that can actually be planted in the ground and grow. What an unbelievably strange time we live in, that everything must be either tinkered with genetically or doused in pesticides.

Tomorrow I think I will hit up Aldi's. No doubt their potatoes are basically thrown off the back of a truck from Mexico.

The garden is doing swell by the way. Maybe I will post up pictures. I even have sweet potatoes.

^ Good stuff. I'm a keen advocate for guerilla gardening. Find a secluded place that stuff will grow. Dump the seeds. Let nature do the rest. Sink or swim. The monetary and time costs are extremely low. The key lies in choosing something the local wildlife won't take advantage of.

^^ The growing season is rapidly closing in my neck of the woods but I am skilled with gardening enough that I have had full crops at 50 days where it should be 70 days. Such is the power of fresh and fully organic manure.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

The people on the prepper tv shows are buffoons, leading the average person to think that the whole thing is ridiculous.

I bet there are real preppers out there, communities of families, with backup plans for everything, never saying a word to anyone outside their community, learning all sorts of lessons from Waco and Ruby Ridge, keeping it quiet and not minding that most people dismiss them as dopes.

Quote:Unfortunately, due to agri-scientific cuckery, I have not yet been able to find potatoes that can actually be planted in the ground and grow.

I wonder if you tried to plant potatoes from the grocery store. Many of them are now treated with bud-killing chemicals. To avoid that you can buy specifically "seed potatoes" from growers like The Maine Potato Lady, but I have another option available for you.

If you want to grow potatoes, contact me by PM. Bear in mind that a lot of my potatoes are unusual because I have a high ratio of genetics recently imported from the tropical Andes, some of them land-races (traditional varieties grown by the locals). That's because I am breeding them for frost-resistance, which for all intents and purposes does not occur among commercial potatoes outside of the Andes (Alaska Frostless, an obscure variety, has foliage that can tolerate a few degrees of frost. The frost-resistance comes from Solanum acaule, a wild potato from very high elevations). I am breeding them specifically for...preppers! My potatoes don't need chemical inputs. They don't need herbicides (many commercial potatoes are so extremely dwarfed they easily get swamped by weeds), and they're reasonably disease-resistant. They also do a very neat trick that makes it easier to manage diseases and pests when they do hit.

There is no single prepper movement. There are any of several. I am skeptical that there is any conspiracy element involved. As far as I can tell TPTB tend to be hostile to us. I would say more but not publicly.

There are preppers or perhaps more likely people on the fringes of the movement(s) who are wrapped up in a certain sort of eschatological belief system. I am not one of them.

One common problem among many preppers is that they are inaccurately modelling the crisis for which they prepare. They make plans as if for a short-term natural disaster, like a hurricane or earthquake, that they just need to wait out at their bugout location, and then everything will be OK again once the cleanup crews clean up the mess. I fear for their lives.

One of the most common mistakes is to try to hole up in mountainous country, or desert, in deep-rural areas where infrastructure is already very tenuous. What is likely to happen is that first they'll go broke for lack of employment opportunities even before things get particularly bad, but if they did head out to their deep-rural bugout in a real crisis, they may very well share the fate of Eddie Willers in the book Atlas Shrugged.

I suggest heading to (and owning some) farmland with other productive infrastructure in the immediate vicinity. And railway connections. In any case, regardless of how things eventually unravel--and they will--you need an economy. Even the old west pioneers traded among themselves, and were extremely dependent on tools imported from elsewhere. Anything above the level of hunting-gathering requires division of labor.

I will have a brief eBook out soon. Free. No catch. I will announce when it's ready for download.

Feel free to contact by PM; polite messages only please. Good luck to all. In the spirit of goodwill I encourage all of you to be prepared to protect yourselves and those you love.

RE: The Survivalist movement. Is it a sham?
Ive been meaning to weigh in here as I am of the same mind. I got head over heels into the doom and gloom back in early 2007 and just watched the hourly gold price everyday while counting my cans of Chef Boyardee. Totally missed out on the bigger picture that it is much more what you know than what you have, to a certain extent. I stopped buying guns and ammo and started buying tools, seeds, and books.

As with any movement or market there are those who get in on the IPO early, and there are those who come after that have to shill to keep the price going up. I think that the survivalist movement up until very recently is virtually the same one that arose in the 70's and has just failed to evolve past the "cabin in the woods" mindset. Ditto for the 2A/patriot movements in the US which are often lumped in with survivalism (aka government non-dependency). The Waco's and the Ruby Ridges can get picked off piecemeal, but where people band together such as at Bundy Ranch the power of numbers is truly seen against even the most powerful of adversaries.

Within the greater survivalist/patriot movements we're starting to see a trend towards not only recognizing that isolationism is a fallacious concept but that the need for community is a very real one, along with the active cultivation of various networks and associations. So it is indeed evolving, albeit slowly. This evolution has taken place within the last 2-3 years and has picked up steam. People are waking up to the fact that everything being so interconnected and dependent puts them at the mercy of outside forces.

A few examples, which are a far cry from references of the genre as early as 5-10 years ago. To wit:

AMRRON - A network of Redoubt based amateur radio operators.
Failure of Civility - A book about organizing community defense
John Mosby - Ex Green Beret is an outspoken advocate of the tribe.
SHTF Intelligence - A guide for building a community intel network.

We can also look to examples like Yugoslavia. A guy named Selco has an excellent blog about his experiences, which support the thesis that individuals and isolated small groups will quickly fall victim while a strong organized community will not. The Rhodesian Bush War is another example of the importance of community, where the farmers formed ad hoc reaction teams to quickly repel terrorists that attacked their farms.

As to what we're facing going forward over the medium/long term, odds are against something cataclysmic where everything shuts down rapidly over a large area. Even a natural disaster (Katrina, Sandy, St. Helens) will only be regional at best. Barring that, taking into account our current weaknesses we may devolve into something that combines elements of Rhodesian, Yugoslavian, and Argentinian collapses.

RE: The Survivalist movement. Is it a sham?
I am interested in survivalist skills and theories. I don't know if it is a planned scam, to make people think they are more prepared than they are.

Seems like there is massive amounts of Larping and buying questionably useful high tech gear.

I like to check out Selco's blog every now and then over at:

http://shtfschool.com

He is the ultimate antidote to the Larper mentality. Here is what he has to say about survivalist tv shows. (He lived through a SHTF situation in former Yugoslavia for a year. Surrounded city, no utilities.)

This is almost too red pill, so, be advised:

Some Thoughts On Reality TV

(Emphasis mine.)

Quote:One more interesting thing about this Russian survival show is that one of the possible contestant says:” I want to do something so mad and unforgettable so that people later say “do you remember that girl”… we only live once and we must make the best of our lives. I am ready”

Mad and unforgettable? Best of your lives? you are ready?

Some things can not be part of the game, not even in hints…

My friend told me a story long time ago, he was a part of small squad unit who gets ambushed in street and shelled with mortars.

House wall collapsed on him and he lost conciseness.

He woke up in the middle of the night, under the rubble of wall, alone if you do not count his fellow next to him- his buddy that had only torso, everything under his belly was gone ,he was dead of course.

Everything was peaceful, nobody else was there, his comrades from the squad were not to seen or heard.

He started to try and dig himself out of the rubble when he heard noises of people approaching.

Group of some 20 enemy men, together with 5-6 women approached and entered house across the ruined house where he was lying.

Only thing that separated him not to be seen is partially destroyed wall with window opening on it and the fact that it was night.

Behind that opening he was lying under the rubble.

He said that armed men together with imprisoned women entered house leaving one guy in front of the house.

After some 20 minutes screams started from the house, together with laugh of the men, it was clear that they were torturing and raping women inside the house.

My friend said he heard comments like “bring her here” or “move her on table” and stuff like that, and then a few gunshots.

It continued like that for couple of hours. My friend tried to remove dirt and rubble from him, but it was impossible, piece of concrete wall was on his legs, and he was afraid to death to make too much noise, guy on guard in front of the house was standing maybe 10 -15 meters from him.

His mouth were full of pieces of dirt from wall and broken teeth, and he said that night he suddenly become man of faith-he prayed so hard not to cough, not to be heard, because he knows he would be shot to death-maybe tortured before.

Out of the couple of women he remembers one of them refused to “cooperate”, they gave extra attention to her, he said probably with a knife…

He had rifle next to him, and he said that he started to pray to God to give him a strength to shoot himself because he could not stand it anymore. But he did not have courage for that.

Then he wanted to use rifle to shoot the guard and to try to shoot at the others when they rush out, but he was even afraid for that because he would end up dead.

Then he cried silently.

He says he was listening to screams almost all night, he also said that he literally shit and piss in his pants out of the horror from the screams, and out of fear for his life.

Then he heard a couple more gunshots from the house. Guys went out from the house, and leave the area without noticing him.

He said everything went calm, only sound in that moment was very distant sound of jet planes very high (NATO coalition regularly had high attitude flights in order to maintain no flight zone above war territory)

Before he pass out, probably because shock and loss of blood, he said two thoughts formed in my head, first was “ I am coward” and second was “thank you God because I am alive”

He woke up couple of hours later in a British UN forces field hospital, their unit found him in the morning and took him inside an armored vehicle.

War ended, he took down his uniform and left rifle.

He married and got kid, he went through a serious drinking period, he “touched” some drugs too, he divorced, lost job. He become more or less a ‘not functional man’.

But he never forgets that night when “God gave him life again” but also when he realized that he is coward too. And what he did not say is that night actually destroyed his life.

Up to now, you probably realized that some of my articles are just memories, without clear message or point, it is up to you to draw point or see message.

It is like that with real life-often there is no sense and message, or there is different message for each one of you.

But real survival usually is not “Best of your lives” and you may conclude that you are simply not ready for some things.

Some things cannot be “played” before you experienced it in reality.

I guess you can see why I only check it out now and then.

"Never underestimate the power of millions of lonely men."

RE: The Survivalist movement. Is it a sham?
Hmmm,

I think it has some strong points:

1. owning weapons
2. stockpiling food
3. living in a low population density area far away from the cities
4. networking with like-minded men to form enclaves in the event of a SHTF scenario

Those things aside, it's mostly big boy larping in my mind. A lot of these guys masturbate to the idea that they're going to suddenly rise up and become leaders in these sorts of scenarios, but that's just malarkey. The men who will lead in these scenarios are the men who are leading now. No, I'm not talking about poofta politicians and congression men. Nah, i'm talking about gangsters, criminals and other hardened types who are natural born sociopaths who flourish in these sorts of scenarios.

This is just like when kids talk about how cool anarchy is. However prepared you think you are for a true governmental collapse, you'd need to be 1000 times more prepared to not just survive but prosper. You're competing with men without conscience who will kill, maim, enslave and brutalize you and your family if you are caught slipping. Good luck preparing for that.

You guys remember those Tower Defense games in Warcraft 3? It'll be like that, but instead of towers, it's you, your family and friends against swarms and swarms of dangerous men, disease, pestilence and all the other things you read about from the comfort of your computer screen and think you can handle.

This'll sound really fucked up, but 90% of us (yes even us alpha males) would probably be better served jumping off of a building in the event of a true apocalyptic scenario. Either that or prepare to be plunged into the depths of depravity.

You'd have to discard 90% of our moral and ethical framework (the shit that makes life worth living) in order to survive this shit.

Better get big and strong now so you can join the biggest roving band of alphas in the area and hope they don't get hungry and think you'll make for a good steak. Better yet, you better become a cop or a military man now so that you have an instant roving pack to join, otherwise shit is going to be really really dark.

lol

This is why I really question the mental capacity of the men on this forum who cheerlead the fall of the West. It's all fun and games until bubba and his 15 friends show up at your house, kick down your door, kill your best friends and rape your wife and kids as you watch and then cannibalize you all later.

Caring more about Donald Trump than your bank account is beta.
