Well so far it looks like the centre-left Liberals are tied with far-left Labour, who will probably end up once again creating a temporary coalition with the extreme-left Greens.

Just another beautiful day in the United Australian Socialist Republic.

I voted for a mix of independents, though with the changes to the way it's all worked out I'm not certain there was any point in showing up.

Given my electorate was 5/6 left blatantly left wing (e.g. the socialist alliance). I was tempted to donkey vote. Didn't really see a lot worth voting for on that piece of toilet paper either, think I put the fisher's and shooters party as my no. 1 choice.

Had a bit of excitement in my electorate, one of the safest coalition seats in the country, a local independent cantidate that I voted for, a proper RP guy who ran just to make a point, was the target of a massive, massive SJW attack the day prior to the elections over a "homophobic" meme that he'd shared some time in the past that they dug up. He handled the attack and stood his ground so well that it makes me wonder if he might be a member here (If you're here, you know who you are and well done mate)
Still a great result, with him just behind the major parties, and ahead of the extreme left Greens.

It's been a fucking sad election campaign.

Both parties are centre-left with huge factions on both sides of the aisle. Both parties have ran their elections on the opposing sides taking away some sort of subsidisation i.e. labor with medicare, the liberals with negative gearing.

The truth is, Australia is a very fucking strange place right now. We don't have the wealth disparity that America has. The working class can still own property and become relatively wealthy. People are voting Green locally and Liberal nationally. Everyone wants their cake and to eat it too.

Problem is, this country is under severe threat from rampant political correctness. Immigration has sprouted a disenfranchised generation of young Muslims who don't fit into Western or Islamic culture and the housing market has essentially sold itself out too dirty Chinese money and rampant speculation.

I used to really like Malcolm Turnbull. He is a master of business, he has an innovative mindset but he has been weighed down by the beuracracy of his own party as well as the ridiculous fucking political correct narrative that dominates Australian media. Fucking our country being in debt Malcolm, what are you going to do about female ratios in Parliament and Gay Marriage?

My seat has been 'safe' Nationals seat since the 50's. It also gets the Christian vote since the sitting member got into a huge amount of trouble in the 90's for repeated homophobic statements that, oddly, no-one has ever bought up again.

I have never voted for anyone who has successfully gotten a seat or power in any election.

This time, I figured, "It'll be Labour or Liberal either way", which is either Left or Left, so I figured, who can I vote in purely as an Annoying, Destructive force that would trigger SJW's if, for some insane reason, they actually got in?

Hell, I laughed when I saw Fred Nile on the ballot, but I cast my vote, and damned if I didn't help Pauline Hanson - someone I can't stand - get a seat in the Senate. It was worth it for the Troll Value when I saw all the offense she's caused them just by winning.

My local independent member is insane. I don't mean crazy, I mean Tin Foil insane. He's some fat Gamma neckbeard rambling about evil gays and dressed like he spends all his time playing Warcraft. As such, I figured he deserved my Number 1 vote. Still didn't matter, the Coalition guy got something like 77% of the vote, like he alway does.

I remember the 90's well, but only have the vaguest inclination of the socio-political climate then AB, I was a teenager in the latter half.

I just remember things being freer, people speaking easier and with more clarity.

These notions, the basis of comparison, forms apart of my massive aversion to Globalism, my heavy shit to conservative, alt right, thinking (I used to vote greens, if that gives you an indication of my progression) and ending up at what is, for want of a better word, nationalism.

Safe schools, immigration, 18C are a few of the things I see as hastening our social decay. I can just remember a time when things weren't so shit.

I like, you, live in one of the safest coalition seats in the country. While I put the hard left last, I found myself voting Lib Dems just to rustle some jimmies on the exit pols.

Anything to get some movement.

So my question was, what were things like as an adult in 70's, 80's Australia?

To some degree I think of myself as lucky for never really having known a free Australia.

For example, I used to bomb around on Australian gun forums and got the sense that if I was old enough to have had invested myself in the shooting scene prior to '96 I would to this day be a bitter man suffering crippling stomach ulcers (or dead from a police shootout).

I guess I'm young enough to see this country for what it could be rather than what it no longer is, and there's something positive to be found in that.

We are usually a year or two behind the Brit's and the American's. The performance of Pauline Hanson [WB for the lol's btw] suggests a right wing nationalist will appear from the clouds in a few years to steady the ship.

C'mon man, you know the answer to this one. Take a look at Brexit, take a look at Trump. The polls are nonsense... I don't know where they get their information, but it doesn't represent the reality.
