He is right, you know. Of course, I so rarely drive non-European vehicles that it might be confirmation bias.

2006 Renault Clio. Petrol with 1.2litre engine.

I do about 2-3k miles/year so don't really need a car. Mines different colour though.

If there's a bigger engine option and you didn't say yes then beta.

Maybe its because your plates are about to expire?

How much is the registration on that car in CA, if you don't mind?

How much is a ticket for driving expired?

^^Hah good eye. About $800 a year, never got a ticket for expired registration but I'm guessing it'd probably be more than that.

The M5 has no effect on women because they care about brands not models.

EDIT: Although this is roughly true, they see 4x4s as top of the brand and then sports cars then saloons etc. Engine size is irrelevant.

Not even the noise and speed play an effect? Those M5s are pretty loud when the 'M' button is activated.

I was riding in a friends busted up gen two CLK cabriolet. He's got private plate and custom rims but his car is pretty beat up, indicator stork was hanging off and the leather seats look very tired, even a dozen or so parking tickets slapped across the windscreen. And even that old wreck that could be bought for around £3000 was getting many looks from chicks passing by. I guess they see the giant 3 pointed star at the front and just start looking.

Entertained the idea of buying 2002 SLK320, seeings as my mileage is so low so depreciation is not a problem but I think that might look too girly. £700 ins + £300 tax + MOT and servicing seems like quite a steep annual outlay for a car I'm barely going to use. Not even going start on the impracticality. Least with my clio the insurance, service and raid tax costs no more than £500 and the thing is surprisingly spacious. Managed to transport a sofa in the back of that thing!

But chicks can recognise a Mercedes badge, it's brand power is so strong. My old man is driving a couple of Brabus chipped diesel Mercs, the 2006 ML is a very big car and I want to get behind the wheel of that. 2007 E-class not so much.

Mercedes is the Rolex of car brands-they've built such a strong luxury brand identity it triggers a Pavlovian response in women.

I like the 1980's SELs, they are a classic "big black Mercedes". I keep a regular lookout on CL for one cheap enough I can fix it up without total investment getting out of hand.

Would love to find a VW Thing for cruising around the beach but they are rarely seen for sale around here.

Mostly agree on this. If you're in it to get girls, go for the cheapest make of the flashiest model possible, while the M5 is the opposite of that idea. Could probably get 90% of the effect with a base 530, even a 3 series.

Looking at cars recently and have been eyeing 911's and Range Rover Sports. Definitely looking to stick closer to a base model than let shit get out of hand with the options and packages. Couldn't believe that there's a $200k RR out there...

You're fucking hilarious... throw out some random ass shit about being a gay vehicle and then providing a link from an LGBT magazine about them. Don't ever change, Kona.

Coincidentally, growing up my dad had a 1990 Benz 420 SEL and my mom had the 92 Range Rover County LWB. Loved both of those cars...

Here's my ride.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

Got my eye on an E38 2001 BMW 540I 6 speed manual M3 at auction today. It needs valve stem seals and a clear coat and a couple window regulators but I can probably get it fo under a grand at auction. I will post pics later today if I score it.

Heh-heh, the old Bosch K-jet Fuel Distributor. Ask Kona, I take that fuckin Octopus and Lomi Lomi dat ting and make Tako Poke out that MF! To all Euro car afficianados- I can find any used parts that you may not be able to find locally or cheap enough. I go to the pick-n-pulls and find hard to get or commonly failed parts and sell them online. All RVF members get the Kama'aina discount, brah!

1k will not cover the seals you'll be changing the timing components and rebuilding the vanos units at the same time. Try 3k under and they're not easy to sell.

Went for way too much, almost $2k. I wanted to get its for its reserve ($600) and wasn't planning on doing the seals. I was gonna put in some 15-50 Mobile one synthetic maybe some seal conditioners and double my money and cash out. Add it to the list of cars I use to own and drive. Way too much labor on that job to properly do it and turn a profit. You could make more breaking it down. It isn't Beta but that shit was rough for $2k.

Years ago when I started I was buying and selling all makes and models. Eventually I started specializing in EUropean vehicles. Since then I have compromised and now buy more domestic and Japanese vehicles because that is what a lot of people want. I prefer Euro cars for my own personal vehicles but they do often take longer to sell. Luckily I am in a pretty Euro-centric vehicle market.

What about importing 25+ year old Land Rovers, what is the market like for that?

I'm guessing these things are cheaper to fix in the UK and the import fee stateside is very small (2.5% of current vehicle value, i.e. price you paid for car). RHD are far more easier to source in the UK and are already specs with miles odometer, LHD drive are on the continent and come with KM odometers.

Didn't want to start a new thread.

What do you guys think of the booming used car market for high end cars?

I have seen air cooled Porsche's selling for more money than new ones.

I also saw a Ferrari Testarosa selling for $200K.
