This woman is yet another mediocre middle-aged white woman who is mad that desirable men won't settle down with mediocre women.

She also makes the mistake that so many like her have done of using a college degree as a barometer for both men and women. Many men don't care about a woman's education.

If she thinks men, especially men with all these options as she describes it, should settle down, then the onus is on women to provide an incentive to do so. And having a college degree alone won't cut it. Neither will being worn out, chubby and/or sarcastic. Women like this are trying to change the social contract that has existed forever, which was basically that women can desire what they want, and men can do the same. I didn't read the article, but I'm getting the jist of it by reading the comments and excerpts.

Her blame for her displeasure with the current state of gender dynamics and family in the current age and culture is grossly misdirected. Her observations are simply not backed up be reality.

Men are not forgoing marriage and children because we prefer not to. We are not "swiping for a new pair [of tits]" because it is our preference. This woman is living in a bubble where she sees no accountability or effect of the change of women's lifestyles and personal expectations in the current age/culture.

Women are the ones who don't want to settle down young and start families. Women prefer to spend the first several years of their adulthood in higher education, and afterwards pursuing careerism and financial/pforessional/personal successes that are wholly removed from the idea of settling down, getting married, and having kids. Those things "get in the way" of living the "fulfilling" life of working in an office, making money, buying a condo, "exploring your sexuality," and a host of other hedonistic pursuits that modern women have been taught they need.

Modern young women, half of which were raised by single mothers, have been told their entire lives they are strong, independent, and "need no man" - what the fuck did you think was going to happen?

I can tell you that most any man would gladly trade a life of endlessly chasing strange pussy for a life of being with a quality woman who will have his babies and take care of him and the family while he happily and dutifully provides. Unfortunately, due to the unforeseen longterm cultural effects of 2nd/3rd wave feminism and women's liberation, this cannot be a reality. Not until the pendulum swings back the other way and women change their values; as women are the ones that control the sexual market.

In the comments to the linked article, the author mentions that she has daughters. She's acting in self-interest to try and have a world where her girls have a chance to marry high-quality guys, a worthwhile goal in itself. Her real problem is that her article is one-sided. Yes, porn has a detrimental effect on men's desire to be productive, and for some men, video games too. That being said, her article is very utilitarian. She makes no effort to address the one-sided family courts, the 40% of American women who are obese, that women need more than a boobs and a vagina to inspire a man to commitment, etc. Her article could have been decent if she actually bothered to explore why so many men aren't interested in marriage compared to the old days. Incentives matter!

Yeah, but if she did all that she'd end up making a convincing case for why modern men should not get married.

It would be sort of hard to highlight how:

- 70% of divorces are initiated by women
- 97% of alimony goes to women
- 84% of time the woman gets custody of your kids

and then go on to say how these statistics imply getting married is a good choice for men. Especially in light of recent studies showing that the more pre-marital sexual partners a woman has had the more likely she will be to get divorced. Modern women with their double-digit N-counts are simply put, a bad risk.

And of course, the above list doesn't even address men's increased risks for suicide, alcoholism, depression, and estrangement from their children post-divorce.

It's not an accident that the narrative relies on shaming rather than taking an honest look at statistics and incentives, because the statistics and incentives aren't on their side.

No-fault divorce is a sure-fire way of crumbling a society. The marital bond needs to be for life, absent a compelling reason (child abuse/neglect, alcoholism, serious gambling addiction, cheating, etc.). You mentioned some compelling reasons why men in the United States should have pause for marrying most American women. There's a minority of marriage quality women here in the US, and the demand for them is still solid. That being said, you're right to mention that the author discounts or ignores these risks for men. Women, as a group, and as individuals are the more inherently selfish sex. Given that they are the sex that has to get pregnant and raise children, that is somewhat understandable.

The real problem is, that women as a whole lack empathy towards male conditions, with a few exceptions here and there. Patriarchy was in place to help men get a share of the sexual spoils via marriage and commitment, in exchange for women giving up political and economic power, and often marrying a man who they weren't all that attracted to. Right now, due to economic liberation, women need not marry those who they aren't attracted to, due to the fact that they won't starve if they chose not to marry. These are all rather unsettling things to ponder, and is beyond the typist's understanding or depth of thought.

I agree that easy access to sex has made men lazier but I think this article puts too much blame on men and some of the comments here put too much blame on women. Also, I don't like her statement that it is better for men to be sexually starved than for there to be a surplus of women. It sucks for men who can't get dates.

Due to birth control and abortion on demand, sex is less costlier, so of course there is going to be more sex. So women don't have to worry about getting pregnant by a deadbeat. And if she did, she has welfare.

Both men and women who act in traditional ways are punished. A woman who remained a virgin until marriage and was looking for marriage wouldn't get dates. And guys that seem like they want a relationship are ignored by women. It's like the only way to get dates is by being a player or slut.

Marriage has less benefits and more costs to men. In addition, boyfriend/girlfriend relationships are not seen to leading to marriage. People no longer feel that marriage is permanent.

The only way to get the pendulum swing the other way is:

1. Ending abortion
2. Restricted birth control
3. Slut shaming of men and women
4. Shaming of spinsters, childless women and old bachelors
5. Reducing the welfare state
6. End no fault divorce
7. Imposing the expectation that dating is only for marriage
8. Promoting married mothers as ideal instead of the career girl
9. Shaming divorcees
10. Shaming fat women
11. Shaming unemployed men

Since none of that is going to happen anytime soon, the only other way is pain. By that I mean, a generation of childless unmarried women and lower economic growth due to unmotivated, unmarried men.

In China where there is a surplus of men, the men have taken the extraordinary effort of importing women from Vietnam, Africa, etc to pair up. I know several girls who are virgins. They are, without fail, devoutly religious. Most of them are Catholic, but a number of them are various shades of Protestant, plus a few Orthodox ones for good measure. They live at home with their parents, saving money and working or are in college studying. A common theme here is that they all have alpha fathers. Men that have set ground rules, and enforce them. I've met these dads, they don't make it easy to date their daughters, but game or the art of charm works on men as well as women. There's a couple of these girls I'm weighing right now as potential wife options. The key is, you need to immerse yourself in the right social circles if your end-game is marriage and kids. I think if anything the abundance of porn might be one of the things encouraging beta male behavior today. Another poster here said that Napoleon Hill mentioned this in his "think and grow rich book"; he said in order for a man to be motivated to do great things he has to conserve some of his "sexual energy" and redirect it into a productive outlet that doesn't involve just chasing tail.

Unfortuantely I think the media puts too much emphasis on "sex" as an end into itself - guys watch films like the Wolf of Wall Street which isn't a really accurate picture of how most self-made millionaires actually live, and want to imitate his "playa" lifestyle, but the end result is they focus too much on short term gains with women and not enough life planning.

If the only thing a woman is bringing to a potential relationship is virginity, then she'll have a tough time. You could pull up any western Tier 1 through to tier 3 city on Tinder or POF, look at the women on there and see what they're after.
