Theres alot of guys on here that have some great advice, great travel experience that I've found valuable but maybe never repped.

Theres also a few highly members, where I don't really agree with much of what they say.

It's an imperfect system that isn't going to be perfect. I don't think there anything wrong with repping someone for theIr writing. Good advice is good advice regardless of life experience. Plenty of coaches in major sports were not even good players.

I do see some stupid reps sometimes though, where I'm like what is that ...+1 "standing up to SJWs" but in the end, to each his own.

There are plenty of ways to cure your low count too. Go out an meet people. Just about everyone has been pretty cool to hang out with. I've had no regrets meeting anyone. As a guy who has had to teach himself everything about women on his own. It was great meeting guys LINUX, Masculine Profiles and Kabul for example, where I could actually see what it took to be at a higher level.

I have always had the notion of repping people I've met and wished that is how things worked. The like button is for good and funny posts.

Now there are definitely times I really wanna rep users I haven't met, and even less than a handful of users that I haven't met and repped, but I try to save it until a meet up. While I was surprised by a few rep points I received without meeting people, genuinely made me feel a bit excited and happy I was coming along on the forum, but I didn't feel like they were warranted. I'm honored the guys who did see something in my early posts saw potential and that gave me more drive to stay on and feel more welcome.

I still have my original goal of trying to meet as many of you guys as possible, it creates a bond of sorts and really you get a true sense of the person behind the username. I'm happy I've set up the Chicago tribe, and gathered up a lot of the local members. They have become some of my tightest friends. I'm happy to have met all the visitors so far and will be equally as excited for more. But for me if someone is wanting a visit I always check their reps for members met. Being vouched for means a lot. An old way of Chicago always holds with me, "It's not about what you know, but who you know". While I do understand knowledge is extremely important in this forum, I have always been a proponent of meeting up. I believe it would help curb the issues we experienced with NTP.

With all that being said, I guess I should start posting a lot more. I keep putting off buying a computer (I really hate technology and only use a phone for all this) but the time seems to be here. I really love this forum; from the friends made, lessons learned, knowledge that has been given and recieved, the humor, brazeness, datasheets, stone cold reality, the real (little) dark shit, lifting, hell even recipes...it's time to contribute more. This is a great community and it will continue to grow.

I think generally the rep points reflect what they're meant to reflect. Just different ways to get love/respect:
Networking (meetups, individual meeting members, phone calls, podcasts).
Wise writing...game, personal anecdotes, etc
Entertaining writing
Informative writing...datasheets
Good writing...articulate and concise

I'm not sure there are over- or under-repped dudes. A bit like saying a guy gets too few or too many attractive women. The women are a reflection of your sexual value, if only because there's not really a better way of measuring it.

If reps were based on meetups alone, it would change what the rep means.
If it was based on entertainment or information/wisdom or good posts, it would change what the rep means.

This thread just reminded me how much I want to meet more forum members. I have gotten some of the best value out of this community by meeting people. He doesn't know it, but meeting Linux a few months back actually completely changed my view of nightgame and sparked a snowball effect of shifting how I look at game in general. Meeting storm last week got my gears turning about ways to change my life up and diversify my profits and work towards getting out of 9-5 hell. Other members I've met have just been simply enjoyable to hang out with.

Typing on the message board and reading useful and actionable content is great and can be very beneficial, but meeting guys has had the most substantial and lasting impression on me for sure.

I think it would be pretty cool to have different categories that you could rep, for instance:

I think it would be a pretty big benefit to have Reps be broken down like that, with the addition of negative Reps for In-Person. People like NTP would've been taken far less seriously if they had In-Person Rep: 0

I just repped Kona.

Every time I read one of his posts and it gets sardonic or funny or dark, and then ends with an "Aloha"...it's just instantly funny to me and makes my day better..

Fictitious example:
"...turns out she cheated and stole this guys shit and got arrested, then he took her back cause she said she was upset but now she's sorry. 4 days later she pukes on him and calls the cops saying he punched her in the stomach to try and induce an abortion.

Turns out she wasn't even pregnant, and he's doing 10-15 upstate for aggravated assault.

It's a grey area. If you look at my reps, the vast majority of them don't specifically say or even hint that the person who gave me the rep ever met me, yet some guys have met me, then immediately have given me rep points, so the rep was obviously based on their meeting with me. Another member repped me without meeting me very soon after I started participating in the forum, but only met me in person recently and he and I have kept in touch. Only one forum member has ever been to my office. I think he may prefer for me not to say who it was.

This is not infallible by any means, but I go by the following guidelines:

1. What is their post per rep? Calculated by taking the person's # of posts divided by the number of rep points. A posts per rep approaching 50 is generally a solid sign. The LOWER the number generally the better. Keep in mind that generally this metric is more useful for higher post counts. It's easily swayed by a low post count member getting a couple reps and only a few posts. This can still be a good sign, but you have to consider other factors.

Examples as of this post from the top forum posters:
RooshV = 48 PPR (over 16k posts, nearly 8 years creating/posting on this forum)
Samseau = 51 PPR (over 11k posts, member over 6 years)
El Mechanico = 73 PPR (nearly 11k posts, member over 5 years)

Examples from this thread:

Kona = 37 PPR
justforfun19713 = 2.6 PPR (VERY STRONG, but a low post count)
LINUX = 7.2 PPR (VERY STRONG, post count over 1k)

2. Length of time as a member is something to consider. Most posters that have been here in the 2-3 year range and higher tend to have more solid contributions.

3. Number of posts is also something to consider. If the member has been here for a long time, has a relatively low number of posts, but a high PPR that's something interesting and should be looked into.

Final word: Let's look at some examples. You should always look at the posts that people link to in their rep points or WHY they repped them. There will always be bullshit rep points but someone with some genuine contribution value to the forum will always have thoughtful rep point descriptions and links to valueable threads/posts. Also, members that have been around longer have gone through the times when there was no rep system or the rep system wasn't really used. Some members post in a lot more joke threads or just post a lot. They add solid value but their PPR is low compared to others because of post volume or being a bit post-whore-y.

Example: el mechanico - 73 PPR - He posts a lot of jokes and sometimes inflammatory statements. However, even in many of his jokes there is wisdom. Not only does he entertain people (which is some of his rep), but he drops knowledge. He has posted data sheets, he's verified a lot of automotive knowledge, etc...

Example: Suits - 33 PPR - If you consider how much of Suits' knowledge dropped and advice given circles around living in China, this is a very solid PPR in context.

Example: Cobra - 13 PPR - With only 1.5k posts and as a member for over 5 years, this is a very impressive PPR.

One last factor that I think is interesting is WHO reps someone. Do they get reps from high post count members who are in very high regard?

For example, if WestIndianArchie reps someone, that has a lot of weight versus a random lower rep member who hasn't been around as long (WIA has a PPR of 20 by the way and a current rep count of 284 which I believe is only bested by Roosh).

I encourage members to look into the posts / reasons that someone gets repped for and consider that strongly.

Finally, I would be remiss to not share my own PPR of ~54 which is actually closer to 50 than I thought. I consider myself a little post-whore-y as I like to post in the Donald Trump Thread and the Everything Else section a bit more than the game section (although I do try to post more in the Newbie Forum when I can). I could say that this is probably more because I've got a LTR for a couple years now, but I don't post that much in the Lifestyle or Deep Forum which would probably help me improve my life at a higher rate.

You bring up something that has been on my mind as of late and something that I hinted at in my first post in this thread, and that is content-to-postcount ratio.

Over the past several months I've seen myself posting a lot of "+1" type of comments, which is fine and in all in good fun in being part of the community. We have fun here and share laughs as well as data and experiences.

I for one have been looking to maybe focus more on contributing things really worth saying instead of just piling on a silly comment pile. A lot of members have a reputation for being class clowns and shitposters, while there are also a lot of members who have a reputation of dropping nothing but knowledge. WIA comes to mind - I can't think of a time I've seen a post by him that was not purposeful, deliberate, or offering some sort of game morsel, even if only one sentence or a couple words. Food for thought.

Its usually easier to rep someone you've talked to or met than it is those you have not. Alot of people talk a massive game - this forum included - but quite a few fall short.

That said, it's a bit harder to get to know the person behind the user name. I'm in a position where I can be out in the open and not have to worry about anonymity, but many of us have to remain anonymous because of the dangers associated with being a part of this forum. It's almost an adrenaline thrill when you think about it. I just wish I had more time to post on here.

Some thoughts:

1. Lately, there's been a big focus on rep points - an almost desperate one. If you are worthy of rep points, you will get them. Stop worrying about them and they will come - if deserved. Newer members and those with low post counts/reps need not worry about trying to get them. However, this thread is a good conversation about the subject.

2. Knowledge bombs of any worth take time. Also, we have to consider something many have already noticed about the manosphere overall; how much more can be said about game at this point?

I've discovered the manosphere and game about two years up to this date. I lost my virginity just a bit before then and after the discovery and learning some game, I had a notch count of 10 girls. However, how much do I really know about sex? Game? Seriously, what the fuck do I know, that someone here doesn't have a much better grasp on?

Too many here often try to add what is basically circle-jerking "uh-huhs" to the easy feminist, SJW, etc targets. Yea, I like poking fun, trolling, and ripping on them too, but if we want to really grow in our life journeys we will need more men like Quintus who are building resources for the future.

3. With that in mind, I try to bring my own "niche" of having a family and raising my newborn son and my future kids with a neo-masculine, classical, and orthodox worldview to the forum. I hope to share my lessons and mistakes and what I have learned from them with the community here.

After my short "player" phase, I've married a girl 7 and half years younger then me, had my first kid, and am getting ready to have a big family. While I'm happy with how I've begun this next stage of my life, I realize I just wasn't prepared enough yet. There is no substitute for someone who has years of a RP/Neo mindset, practice of game, maintaining frame, handling shit-tests, etc. (For instance I wasn't sure just how to deal with a pregnant wife in certain arguments, situations, etc despite what I know.)

Hell, if I'm honest, we are still in theory stage on alot of what's thrown about. We now need people like myself to actually put the neo-masculine worldview into practice in the family sphere. Remember - any cultural war is won demographically and multi-generationally. When our children's children are growing up, we will see the fruits of our labor.

Look I can get a couple of rep points by different members just because I posted one good thread, wrote cool story, or gave one good response in other member's thread. It's silly. LIKE system is better cause that's what exactly what it means. It's not like I achieve some sort of forum status just because I got 50 likes for one of my threads/posts. It's like.. oh look 50 members liked my shit, cool.

Personally I like THANK YOU system. I see it on forums. You give THX only to those posts/threads/responses that are actually HELPFUL AND USEFUL to you. So you don't THX a member who posted funny memes or entertaining stuff or cool story or datasheet that you don't use. Under your name you have number of how many members thanked you. Simple.

I'm going to provide an alternative interpretation. While it is true that the rep system does fail to precisely express everyone's exact contributions or deservingness, I don't think that is very important. Guys who contribute the most do it for their own reasons, they don't probably care little about an arbitrary number.

I think the better question is whether the rep point system successfully inspires new members to contribute positively. I know that it did for me.

However, I do advocate for rep points only being awarded for datasheets (that receive a certain minimum number of likes) and for meeting others (if they choose to rep you for doing so), because I believe that this system would inspire participation in newbies that would result in a better forum.

Without this stricter criteria, newbies may be more inspired to focus on rhetoric. While this pursuit does have it's value, it's only as good as the people who do the writing. A forum full of valuable data (particularly that which leads to male self-improvement) and with members who socialize frequently with each other will be a forum that has the strongest membership.
