RE: Guys Who Might Merit More Rep Points
I don't mind reps overall but I do suspect it leads to some echo chamber effect. Where sometimes people post stuff that's agreeable to the vast majority of people reading in order to accumulate more reps. Maybe it's not always done consciously either...kind of like the rat in the cocaine maze. If a potential reward (rep point) is there to push a button (make an agreeable post) most will be conditioned to over time.

I try to go out of my way to rep people who have differing opinions from my own but still post up some pretty interesting stuff.

The whole NTP thing did reveal that someone out there has a very accurate understanding of the behavior of the members on here and proved it by using a fictitious profile with posts to generate maximum reps. Even with red pill people are way more predictable and easily conditioned than we want to admit sometimes.

Snowplow and Helter Skelter should definitely have more rep. They are great guys who have stepped up and created Tribal groups in their areas. They both post solid content and Helter has even created a great podcast.

But then again, I enjoy having more rep than those potatoes.

Well I just tried to rep the guy above, and already got Miscbrah. I hit my points quota for the day.

It was gonna be the 44 Club.

Now I look and see that my points have skyrocketed to 46. It was fun while it lasted. Mahalo for the points folks.

RE: Guys Who Might Merit More Rep Points
Everyone that I have repped deserved the rep.
I wanna say that some people are under repped.. Like cr33p..But he has plenty. His internet dick is thick enough as it is.

The people that probably deserve rep are some of the guys I've met or talk to offline that are in the trenches and don't post often.
Lately.. I've learned more from guys offline than online..because so much of the forum is politics talk.
I don't place as much stock on funny comment or politic rep as I do on game and travel rep.

The first page comments, funny memes & insights by posters get more exposure, likes and in the long run ... rep points. All while the Aussies and SEA boys are either at work or school. By the time they get to the thread, it's at 3 pages and further down the thread list. Whatever thy post gets less exposure.

Ah, yes. A classic example of systemic time-zone based discrimination.

RE: Guys Who Might Merit More Rep Points
Rep points can (and probably have) led to a few "power users" controlling the zeitgeist of the forum. A higher repped members posts are subjected to less scrutiny and get more appreciation than a newer repped member. This is fine, because the assumption is that a higher repped member has already been "vetted" by the community.

But in reality, there are several different topics that someone can accumulate rep points. A great data sheet on cities will garner a lot of rep points fairly quickly, and regarding contributing behavior only makes sense. The problem is that 100 rep points obtained through data sheets about SEA or EE does not mean that user knows anything about accounting, philosophy, economics, weightlifting, or business, but that user's posts in such threads will be accepted as true on the merits of their reputation, especially when most users are not experts in a everything and rely on other members to vet correct information.

Rep points can be useful in encouraging people to post more, but they can also be counter-productive because on a forum with so many different threads and topics, knowing where a user has demonstrated competence is often ignored and their word taken as gospel.

RE: Guys Who Might Merit More Rep Points
For me it's a mix of the people who I've met in real life, talked with extensively, or have left a strong impression on me. The people for me that are underepped are here as follows:

Posters Who I've Met But Don't Post Much on the Forum

brick- singular name on this list, but this guy is essentially one of my boys along with banned member Screwston. Screwston I've hung out with a lot more and haven't introduced to a lot of my friends which I should, but brick has met one of my closest friends and as fast as he's impressed me in person he impressed him. Completely solid guy.

Regular Posters Who I've Met:

Moma-Moma definitely left a strong impression on me from both the meetup and what he posts on the board. Sharp as a tack and definitely deserving of atleast 150 or more reps. Gold forum member who definitely needs more recognition especially for his unique vernacular, idea of game, sense of humor, and podcast with Rudebwoy(who himself is in one of the other subcategories).

redbeard: Premier lifter, goes hard or goes home, and someone I think extremely highly of. He's capable of doing more in person and I think he's also more than capable of dropping more gold. #1 on my list of people who I would want having my back in a fight.

Spider: I say just meet the guy. You don't get the full force until you do. Him and his crew's skills made my jaw drop. Great character and phenomenal individual.

Isaac Jordan: I don't drop into his area as much as I should, but I consider him one of the forum's most valuable posters when he does post and a good friend. Strength of character is something I don't praise lightly.

Robreke: Older gentleman who can hang. Insightful for his finance knowledge and someone who can pull his weight. Excited to see where he ends up being after traveling and I think he'll pull up his rep further with some kickass datasheets.

Gustavus Adolphus: Someone who takes himself too lightly in terms of what he thinks he can contribute. Honestly if he posted a lot more I'm fairly certain he would build up a sizable rep.

Guys Who I've Talked Too Extensively but Haven't Met
Sourcecode: He pulls consistently, and he does well for himself. I'm actually really surprised he doesn't post more in the game section. Easily deserving of a 100 reps even though I've butt heads with him a few times.

Lebeau: The guy is still a big ? mark for me, but the amount of good advice and influence I've received from the guy is worth its weight in gold to me. Also every post of his on the forum to me is usually something he feels strongly about and to add value.

Suits: I don't want to feed his forum ego more than I have too, but he should be more of a heavyweight on the forum. He's got great datasheets and is a great poster when he's serious on the forum. Granted he's already up there in reps, but he could use a few more.

Tengen: Resident Wine Expert and Aussie bloke whom might be affected by Anabasis' time zone theory. Think he's underepped because he misses a lot of the action. Should post more about how he's doing in the game section Think it would be great material for successes and failures log that people can learn from.

cascadecombo: if he only posted more on the serious side he would have them I swear.......

Guys Who I Haven't Met But Left a Strong Impression on Me on the Forum:

Kona: For how long he's been on the forum and his simple, blunt honesty/insight I feel he should be a heavyweight on the forum I'm very rarely truly impressed by how a person writes and expresses themselves via a text based forum, but Kona is up there for leaving that kind of a strong impression.

Cobra: For all his posts, his self improvement, and his development he should easily be at 150 reps or so. I truly think so. Add in his work with H3lt3rSk3lter on the podcast and it definitely makes a good case.

Snowplow: Long standing member I really hope to meet. Another case of the if he posted more I'm sure he would have rep.

H3lt3rSk3lter: podcast is gold. Any kind of audio editing and meetups that have to deal with it takes work and dedication. Doing that kind of work pro bono is worthy of a lot of respect.

Vinman: He drops gold left and right what can I say. Just take a look at most of his posting history and you'll see what I mean.

Kaotic: Just look at the player's lounge to start need I say more.

rudebwoy: podcast and one of the strongest posters on the forum as you can see from the podcast thread among other things. Lots of props to him and Moma for doing the podcast pro bono, getting interesting people on, and just killing it.

Skotch: One of the Japan forum posters whose datasheet/approach log on J-girls was the first thing that really got me hooked on the forum. I always have to add him to a list like this because for me personally that was completely awesome.

I'm fairly certain I forgot a lot of people in the last section and other members I consider heavyweights(TravelerKai, Cattle Rustler[for being associated with the word MILF itself on this forum], 2Wycked, BeyondBorders, etc.) I've intentionally left out as they are fairly well known, but this would essentially cover it for me.

The only guy I think is under-repped is Excelsior. Watching his growth intellectually over the years has been a quietly beautiful evolution, like watching a tree grow from a young, hardy sapling into a resplendent oak. It's too bad he doesn't post here as much as he used to -- we sorely need it.

RE: Guys Who Might Merit More Rep Points
I agree with all of you, since it is how you see the world and what matters to you that should determine if you give a rep point - IF IF IF - you even want to. No one says you have to. I just took a moment to reflect and realized I have received so much from this forum and wanted to show some gratitude.

I would also hope that guys in general don't care about getting rep points, but I think deep down inside as guys, when someone acknowledges you for what you have done for them - it is not an ego thing - but sort of like a head nod. If you know what I mean, I am not articulating it very well. Hope you get my gist.

RE: Guys Who Might Merit More Rep Points
A striking example of an under-repped poster: BoiBoi, with only one rep point! He's got 670 posts under his belt, "Total Likes Received" = 315... And his posts are not bad at all, but, just 1 rep point...

Patriarch (formerly known as Sweet Pea if I'm not mistaken) should also get more rep points. He's got 18 points, but would deserve more, definitely. Especially considering he posts both on travel and politics, with quality and truthfulness, and accepts to meet travelers, and even new members: commendable.

RE: Guys Who Might Merit More Rep Points
I think it's fine as is.

Rep points are not about contribution, no matter how much people posture that they should be. Rep points are used to indicate general social agreeableness, accumulated over time. It is more about "how RVF are you?".

This is why some pure-opinion posters have many times the rep of some data-contributor posters. Scotch, for instance, should be around 150rep based on the quality of the original data he put out. NTP should've been at zero. But Scotch's level of forum-wide participation, and the total agreeableness of his posts (doesn't have to be real to be agreeable), was less than NTP's.

I only rep for contributions that were personally valuable to me, but that can be as simple as someone mentioning local insight from time to time that I find interesting. But I've noticed that the strongest generator of rep points isn't this. It's somebody agreeing with what somebody else said, especially during a debate. I saw one member take a completely indefensible position on a topic, fail to defend it, and as a result get 3 rep points from other people who themselves didn't attempt to defend the position either. The fact that he was wrong didn't matter -- they liked what he said so they indicated this agreeableness with reps. I've also seen a member drop a fairly work-intensive datasheet, and get zero rep for it.

So let’s dispel once and for all with this fiction that rep points are about quality of contribution. Rep points are not about contribution and they never will be, and that's fine, but they should be seen in that light. If we want an official "contribution tally", whereby a contribution of data gets stamped as "gold", it would have to be done by an appointed independent judge for that purpose, not socially.

I try not to take rep and post count too seriously beyond familiarity and good advices. I'm more apt to meet someone with rep and posts than not.

My biggest fear when meeting with my tribe is being viewed as some sort of a "high ranking" something or other. I'm not as good at game like some of the folks here and I really don't want anything to potentially inflate my ego.
