As a 23 year old Canadian living in an 'oil town', I'd like to seek education in business/finance abroad. I was wondering if you guys had ideas of where you would have wanted to go, or even some personal experiences. I'd like to stray away from North America and venture to either Europe or South America, as I've never left my small province of SK and want to see the world and have some life experiences.

Places that stand out to me are Colombia in general, Cluj, Tallinn, Wroclaw and Prague.

The 'how I am going to acquire financing' is a whole other thing... suppose I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

If you go outside Canada for university you're either going to pay way more than you need to or get a worse education with worse credentials and prospects and very possibly both. I really don't think its worth it

If you've never even left Saskatchewan going to school in a big city will itself be a big change and a way to get some new life experiences. You could pick a school in Vancouver or Montreal and have a very cool experience and both of those cities have a few good universities. And when you're in school you can always do an exchange year and then you get the best of both. International experience while paying cheaper Canadian fees and graduating with a degree from a quality Canadian university. I would really spend some time looking at Canadian schools before you decide to go abroad and take such a financial loss

For business/finance you should look to the financial centers of the world. I would seriously consider Singapore, given the trajectory of Asia demographically and financially over western countries who are hitting their own versions of the wall. Perhaps also Hong Kong, but the old world centers like London and Switzerland are still (and will remain so) very relevant.

Ditto this advice. Canada has great business schools that are respected worldwide. This is not true of a degree from any of the locations you listed. You will pay more and get less. If you want to see the world, just do it and spend the tuition money on airfare and liquor.

If you want to lay a solid foundation with a business degree, go to Ivey or Queens.

This is going to be harsh, but "I'll figure out the money when I cross that bridge" is a one way, no layover ticket to the poorhouse.

Sound advice, thanks. I suppose there are also the 'near free' tuition of Germany, Norway and Finland. Although the cost of living is likely a lot higher than in Calgary, Vancouver, and Kelowna (where I'd choose to study in Canada, because fuck Ontario xD).

Agreed. And why not try to pick up a language, particularly Mandarin, why you're at.

I'm in the same boat as you Glass even same age. Though I'm in Germany. I've been thinking of studying somewhere abroad as well. I thought about east Europe as it would be cheap and probably a lot of fun. However, their degrees wouldn't have the same value as the German degrees. Therefore I will stay in Germany and if I'm lucky enough I will do a semester somewhere abroad.
If you've got the money and can afford to study in the US then you should consider it. I'm sure an American business degree could open you many doors. If I had the money I would go there in a heart beat.

If you have to pick a EE business school go for Kozminski University in Warsaw, it ranked quite well last years, however for non-polish students it is quite expensive to enroll in, for approximately the same cost you would be better off going to a Canadian medium tier school

You go to a less developed country, you get a less developed education. Remember that. There's a reason why wealthy families worldwide send their kids to G7 nations universities(UK, US, etc).

You wanna party, just take 3 months off and go do it. Spend some days in the country researching the local economy, lending standards, capital raises, and culture.

Another option to consider could be an exchange year abroad, you would still get your Canadian degree and pay Canadian university costs but you can spend up to 1 year studying at a university overseas and have the points credited to your degree back home. That is what I am considering doing next year. I'm in New Zealand but checking the website there are 9 'partner' universities I can chose in Canada, so they should the have the same program. I'm still not sure where I want to go, I'm also keen on somewhere in South America or Europe, but just need to find somewhere they teach in English and have the courses that I need to do.

I've done 2 exchanges and one Master abroad. Considering the degree you can also get double-diploma (for example, École Polytechnique Montreal offers the opportunity for double-diploma at École Polytechnique Paris which allows you to get a north american and european engineering degree). Exchanges semesters are fun, the more reputed your university, the higher the number of bi-lateral exchanges will be possible.

All these type threads (an I prally have made some in the past) come down to personal preference. On what women, culture, food, architecture, climate, ect that you prefer. I understand wanting to ask about countries and gather opinions on them. I still do that myself. But after traveling nonstop for close to two years I have found you just have to go somewhere and find out for yourself. I have been to hyped cities I read about on here and not liked them at all. I have been to places that get no love on here and absolutely loved them.

If you can figure out a way to scope out a few of the cities you are considering before you make your decision that would be the best way to go about it. Good luck in which ever you decide, I'm sure you will have fun studying abroad regardless of your destination.

Yep.

You'd be better off enrolling in a good Uni in Canada and then taking 2 or 3 semesters abroad in a less developed country.

Then you'll still get the more valuable degree, but you get to have the experience of studying abroad(and you'll save thousands in tuition costs for those semesters if you choose the right country, even factoring in travel expenses).

Here is a list of the worlds best business schools. If you are going to make that sort of investment go to one that will help you.

If your goal is just to go and see the world, plenty of better ways to do it.

Not necessarily for undergrad or even master programs, moreso for MBAs.

Spain and France are very good locations to study abroad. Good schools, languages that are useful and fun to learn and hot girls in both countries.

There's lots of top universities in a range of countries, there's no reason he couldnt get a good education surrounded by the kind of women he likes
