Ran the test myself, shorter shorts are great if you don't skip leg day, I've caught the elevator eyes looking at my legs from da wimminz.

Honestly, I'm a big fan of short shorts. If you have the legs, do it. Freedom of movement is nice.

Also, it can help make you look taller, especially if you are in the 5.5 to 5.9 range height wise.

The ones I'm wearing here are more athletic wear and can be worn as swim shorts or work out shorts. One major issue though is the pockets are so shallow, neither my phone nor wallet will fit fully in the pockets.

I've worn a fanny pack with plenty of pride to compensate for the lack of competent pockets, but I'll essentially have to make a manly looking one.

How are you dudes rocking 2 layers in Vietnam and Thailand. I respect it, but I would be melting if I wore 2 layers in Shenzhen during midday.

I usually throw on an H&M V-neck because I'm fit enough to rock it, jeans/chinos depending on how hot it is. I will admit my shoe game sucks. I'm not sure what shoes work with a v-netck and dark denim

Im moving to Guangzhou this summer, which is a very hot city. Im moving from the far north, so I will be throwing away bags of long underwear and thick sweaters.

Shoe game is what I don't understand. I like suede shoes and boots, but when I went to Guangzhou a couple weeks ago it rained a lot. Leather shoes and rain don't mix.

I had some light slip on canvas shoes but those got soaked and the front of them was brown from dirty street water after a huge rainstorm.

I will second polos, V-neck t-shirts, lightweight cotton pants (Jcrew makes some cheap ones, Jcrew Factory even cheaper when you find a sale).

I feel good about the clothes but I have a problem with good looking shoes for hot/humid and rain sometimes.

I've never understood it either. I struggle even wearing a shirt in the middle of the day in places like Bangkok (Hell, walking 200m to the sytrain at 9pm with a short sleeve shirt left me drenched) and often resort to muscle tank tops & shorts. Even in my home country of Australia in Autumn/Winter when it's 17-20 degrees and not humid at all I'm use to walking around in only one layer. My body overheats and I sweat easily.

You can wear pretty much any shoes with dark denim. Get some casual dress shoes like a brogue. I suggest wearing chinos in warmer climates over denim though. They can be a lot more versatile with style too.

Basically three situations

1) Casual, out and about during a weekend day or sightseeing or grocery shopping on a weekday evening - something that doesn't take alot of effort and is comfortable but still enough to set me apart from the crowd as someone who "gets it".

2) Business casual - if I want to hit on some girls in the street when coming from/going to the office - looks cool but still professional and I'm not in a full suit sweating balls but also don't look like the IT maintenance dork.

3) Events/night game - let's say I'm hitting the town or heading to a nice event - but don't want to sweat balls everywhere, but at the same time I want to stand out and get plenty of IOIs.

Too restrictive requirements? I'm sure there must be some outfits out there that would fit these situations.

Get yourself a pair of shitty flip flops. Not for dressing up, but just because they're essential for Guangdong weather. I'm serious. Some mornings in guangdong it's raining like crazy and even if you put on a pair of Timberlands your feet will be soaked. On those sorts of days, I throw on a pair of sandals and pack my shoes in my bag and make the commute that way.

Obviously, the only time you should even consider going out into the rainstorm is if you must.

I can't stand to wear the cheap shitty flip flops, bought a nice pair of strap on sandals with a thick cushioned sole. Makes me taller too. Between the short shorts and elevator sandals I'm now andre the giant (and I'm 6'1" already).

I never had a problem wearing a light gray, tropical wool suit in Bangkok during most parts of the year.

Even during the shittiest parts of the hot season I never wore shorts unless I was at the beach.

Are you guys mostly from cold climates or something? I know the Finns I went to Uni with there all looked like Marco Rubio whenever we went outside.

The short and jacket combo is ridiculous in my opinion. You have 2 piece of item that completely contradict one another. It just screams "Look at me, I'm sweating my balls off, but look how stylish and fashion forward I am"

I'm from the land of flip flops. We call them slippers here.

I usually make a run every few months and get a few new pairs of each type from either the Nordstrom or Saks discount store. Reefs are $20 to $30 max, and the Olukais I like are around $60. Don't ever buy them at the actual brand store as they can be $100 or more.

Both of those brands will last. They just start to stink after a while. Especially if you're in and out of water, but that's what they are for.

Adrenaline mentioned being a sweater which is my same situation. The minute it gets hot, I sweat. That's what I do!

So, as I've been trying to improve my style, that's been a big driver of my choices, I just got a Mizzen and Main performance dress shirt. I'm pretty impressed. I'll be testing it in HK and Manila next week and will report back on it. But after one day of wearing it, I can report that it's slightly stretchy, looks good and definitely breathes.

Now, I've gotta figure out the shoe game.

He could be, lots of models are unfortunately faggots and if not the earring, glasses and bag don't help him. Obviously those weren't the point of this. Other than that I find nothing wrong. If you are in shape you should wear fitted clothes, period.

Feel free to offer your suggestions by the way. I'm by no means a fashion expert and find these things to be a healthy excercise for style improvement.

Yeah, flip-flops is for backpackers or tuk-tuk drivers in Bangkok. It's ugly.

For a laid back, by-the-beach but chic looks, better wear espadrilles. Since a few years, it's the absolute trend. All big names high-end designers have espadrilles in their catalog (and furthermore, it's not only trendy, but also comfortable) - even Brioni and Zegna.

For espadrilles, because they get stretched out (no laces) and "unfresh", over time, I would go cheaper and to the standard maker of them:
