A few of the same locations I visited the last six weeks (I skipped Pattaya and Phuket and spent a couple of weeks in Chiang Mai instead), but overall a very different trip from mine - a lot more partying while I happily settled into a few mini-relationships with a little occasional fun on the side.
Sounds like you had a great time too though.

Out of curiosity, are you in your 20s rather than your 30s Adrenaline? (Edit: Nevermind, reread your original post. Sounds like the kind of trip I would have chosen 10 or 15 years ago too. )

Hey everyone! I welt to Phuket Town for a few days and didn't see much info here on it. So I figured I would share what I know.

You are better off to go to Patong for girls. If you are in Phuket Town, you can go onto Tinder and there is actually a surprising amount of talent. However the reply rate was low and many of them were just stopping by Phuket Town either on their way to Patong or else where.

There is a cool night bazaar there where you can get some awesome food for cheap. There is also a TON of handmade crafts the locals makes and display that you can buy. Was really humbling to see this place because it was just the locals there, going about their daily lives.

However I did have one crazy night...

A roommate in my hostel shared a few drinks with me as we started to shoot the shit with a few other people. With words exchanged and glasses emptied and filled, we decided to go get a few more drinks at the store down the street. It's coming up to about 1 am at this time and the streets are quite besides the stray dogs rummaging throughout their midnight dumpster buffets. We get some drinks at a 7/11 and hear some bass pumping through the city. We follow the sounds and come across a club at the base of a hotel...

Awesome. Let's check it out. We go inside and the place is filled with Thais of all different shapes and sizes. They loved seeing us in there. It is definitely not common for foreigners to come into this club (I forget the name sorry). It was late when we got there so we were seeing the tail end of the party. at 2 The place was shutting down so we headed to the front and followed the crowd, as they all seemed to be going somewhere specific.

Everyone went to the back of the hotel and there was a club called "007". We head inside, no questions asked, and it is fairly empty. We grab a drink and start dancing, and catching some peoples eyes. The club had lounge seats with groups sitting at them. Some girls were mingled in the groups who seemed to be working girls. After about 10 minutes, 10-15 girls game in wearing white dresses made out of towels. They were going around meeting everybody, and started take of these towels and were strutting around the club in their underwear. For what was supposed to be a quiet night I was amused to be in a club surrounded by topless woman. To my knowledge it was these girls jobs to arouse the guys at the club to make them more inclined to pay for the working girls. We ended up leaving as everyone grouped off and headed home.

I fall asleep.

I wake up at about 5 am (I needed to be up at 7 to grab a boat) to the noise of moaning. A buddy in the bed next to mine brought a girl back from
Patong. The beds were surrounded by curtains, and he left the little reading light on, so I got to see a silhouette puppet sex show in the early morning. I had to piss really bad but they just wouldn't quit. The girl wanted to go home so I didn't want to ruin the moment. I start to hear water dripping and think "... Fuck no"... I jump out of bed and turn on the light and my little buddy from the club pissed himself on the bed above me. Not to mention he also fucking shit himself... shit... grown ass man... for fucks sake. I clear my belongings far from his putrid pile and laugh with this girl and other roommate at the craziness. No going back to bed now... So I do some laundry because my things were to close for comfort.

The guy gets dressed, still drunk as hell, and leaves the hostel. I guess he didn't realize he shit on his sandals because he wore them out and there was little fairy fecal footprints throughout the fucking town.

Anyways, that was my time in Phuket Town.

Is it sad that out of everything I experienced in Thailand that I miss "The Club" on KSR the most? Walking into that place every night after a few Chang's on the street outside, feeling like a rock star and tearing up the dance floor/stage were some of the best nights of my life. Girls eye fucking left, right and center, having to do absolutely no work and so many options each night that I actually had to reject girls. Sometimes I got so caught up in the music that all women were disregarded, no matter how obvious they made their intentions.

It was good feeling like a woman in Western Society for a few nights lol. Take me back.

I think you may be on to something there.

On that note, seriously considering a return to the land of smiles in December to experience what I missed, mainly the east side of the island and the Full Moon Party!

Do you think the party will be a sausage fest for the festive period? Planning on staying on the island for over a week and attending the Dec 25th Christmas party and the new years eve party. I know the full moon party gets a bad rep on here but I have also heard that just being on the island in the lead up to the party guarantees lays and having the youth/looks, I would back myself.

Saw some decent return flights to Bangkok earlier and was thinking Bangkok for the first half of the trip and Koh Samui/Koh Phangan for the second half before returning to Bangkok for the return flight home. Then it hit me how much travelling that would involve and although I would love to go back to Bangkok (and I despise Patong) maybe a return flight to Phuket, a short ferry ride to Phi Phi for a week and then heading east would be the right move. There is nothing up north that interests me other than Bangkok and I can't say I'm a huge fan of Thai women so tourist hunting seems like the go this time around.

How much do you need to get by in semi reasonable lifestyle these days in Chaing Mai or Pai? I mean a pleasant enough hostel with a private room, few drinks in the evening, gym or training in the days. Generally not worrying much about money, within reason. Is that doable on $1000 pcm?

Spent quite a bit of time in Chaing Mai in 06 and then 09. Between then the crash came, and second time round seemed a lot more pricey than first. Not that fussed with the south and the beaches, i preferred the north on both occasions i visited previously. Nicer locals, cheaper and a more interesting backpacker crowd, than the seedier and more beach resort types in the south. Food seemed better up north too.

$1,000 per month is fine in CM. Especially if you don't party hard.

You could get your own place, you don't need to stay in a hostel if you don't want to.

Four months is a long enough stay not to worry about a hostel room. Rent an apartment or a condo for that length of time. Some owners will want a 6 month commitment, but there are many that only require three months and some month to month. I'll list some of the costs to give you an idea about the current prices in CM.

Rent - I've seen very clean, albeit small studio rooms, for as low as 2000฿ ($55) per month but I would go crazy in a place like that if I had to live there for more than a couple of weeks. I rent a 40 m/2 furnished apartment with a small kitchen that is separated from the main room for 4500฿ ($125) per month. It's basically a studio with a separate kitchen. The building is modern with an elevator/lift and 24 hour security (don't really need security in CM). No need to pay over 7000฿ ($200) per month for a nice apartment if you are willing to spend a few days searching and stay away from the Old City, Riverside and Nimman.

Gym - Not a hardcore workout guy, so take this info with a grain of salt. I pay 600฿ ($16) per month for a gym and have no complaints. A few hardcore gym rats that I know always complain about the gyms here - better to check out a few to see for yourself.

Drinks - Hang out at the bars in Santitham or Assadathon Rd with hot local Uni girls if you want to have a fun night out on the cheap. These places always run specials like 3 or even 4 large bottles of beer for 150฿ ($4). Even many bars in Nimman aren't that expensive and if you are out with a small group it's a good idea to split a bottle. Many theories abound, but for whatever reason the General has decided that bars and clubs in the north must close at midnight. Many places keep it going until 1am before the police arrive, or lock everyone inside and keep serving drinks. A few bars stay open until 6am (200฿ small beer) and I was at one of them last week. The police actually showed up at around 1am prompting the staff to turn off the music, but as soon as they left the party rolled on.


Motorbike or Scooter - You need your own transportation in CM and if you're only here for 4 months a car is probably out of the question. A scooter can be rented for as little as 2000฿ ($55) per month, but better to rent a good one. A good condition 125cc for 2,500฿ - 3000฿. A PCX 150 can be had for 3,500฿ ($100). Another option is to buy a used one, drive it around for 4 months then turn around and sell it, probably receive close to the same price you paid. Don't forget to bring an International Driving Permit and if you are licenced to ride a bike in your home country make sure they stamp that section on your permit. If not, at worst you may have to pay a small fine if you are stopped.

Food - Street stalls sell dishes for as low as 20฿, but you get what you pay for. Rent an apartment with a kitchen and at the very least, you can snack and prepare light meals at home, which is by far the healthiest option. I get one of my Thai girls to cook at my place at least 4 times a week and by shopping at the local wet markets, it's actually cheaper than eating at food courts and the ingredients are super fresh. If you plan on eating out often budget on the more expensive side if you value your health.

Border or Visa Run - It doesn't matter if you obtain a visa before you arrive or just show up and get the free 30 days, eventually you'll need to do one of these. The closest border crossing is at Mae Sai 3 1/2 to 4 hrs from CM. A return bus ticket to Mae Sai will set you back 750฿ ($21) plus a few dollars for transport from the bus station to the crossing.

I went to the biggest mall in the world today... seemed like it at least. Got everything I needed except a nutribullet or fruit ninja... got a bunch of shit I didn't need as well. Saw some hot Euro trash girls there.. wearing next to nothing, looking like hot trash that I WB. One girl had shorts on that were no existent , I've seen G-strings that cover more ass then her shorts.

Maybe its cause I have been in the Phils for the past 3 months where I only saw one stunner the whole time... but it seems as if the Thai girls are much hotter.. prally even a lot of the Thai boys.. I haven't seen the upper end in the Phils, but your average Thai girl is MUCH better looking than your average Filipina. Way better teeth, too. I was surprised at the amount of toothless and black tooth smiles I saw in the Philippines. The level of poverty there is really sad.

I went to a few Robinsons in the Phils in smaller cities and one in Malate and the average girl there was pretty unattractive. If you go to a normal mall in a normal city in Thailand or Bangkok the girls are way better looking.

Well clearly the upper end of the Phils is on par with most other countries. But I think the upper end of the Phils prally consist of like 6 chicks hidden away from the rest of society . Miss Universe is a half Pinay half German mutt and she a baddie for sure.

I spent 3 months in Davao and I only saw one girl that was a stunner. She was in Star Bucks with her mom. She was the only girl that really impressed me. Sure I saw lots of cute girls and some pretty ones here and there.. but only one stunner.

The level of poverty in the Phils is bad... but they still seem to be the happiest people in any country I have been to. The Phils is a strange and magical place.

I love Phuket. Granted I am not a 20's dude into nightclubs.

I love the pubs, live music, international scene and the party atmosphere of the place. A Asian Vegas if you will.

I love the Russian women on tap...

The scuba diving is great as well.

Everything is cheap, available and backup Thai options for tourists.

Phuket is like my second home these days, although it is becoming noticeably more expensive every six months I go back (Bangkok felt like it was free when I popped to the bloody Four Seasons there last year for a week in comparison!).

In my head, I feel like prices have increased 50% there in the last couple of years...

Anyway, I go to Phuket for:

The greatest chance of finding a Kickboxing sparring partner my size; although they tend to vanish back into the wilderness from which they came after only a couple of days.

Training; where else can you train twice per day in the sun at many, many locations and be 10 minutes from the beach?

Er, that's it haha.

I do like the new roads though.

I found Phuket pretty grim when I was there. A lot of middle aged European men with Thai hookers. And just a generally older tourist crowd / sleazier vibe. Thats only in comparison to Phi Phi / Koh Tao / Phangan etc mind you, which I loved. I'd find it hard to justify spending 10 days in Phuket when Phi Phi is so much nicer, and so close by.

In saying that 2 weeks in Phuket is obviously not the worst place in the world to be - certainly much more fun than a non holiday Asian city like KL. The Russians (if you can overcome their coldness), beaches, sunshine etc are all great if not compared to the nearby islands. Or if someone can only fly in for short trip (5days or less) Phuket is much more internationally accessible than the islands so makes a lot of sense.

I met a miss Palawan during my 3 days in Palawan. She was a 7 max for me. While cuter then other girls I saw in Palawan she was way less cuter than some of the girls I met in Manila. When I approached her (already worked my way in the international group she was in) I was surprised with a bitchy attitude, first question I asked her was "are you a feminist". Honestly I forgot how it felt after couple of weeks in SEA. Well she is half German too. I guess you have a recipe for a Filipino beauty pageant material. I had a flight to Manila in 5 hours, so I returned to my hotel with empty hands that night.

I hope that more Germans go to Philippines and make babies. After 19-20 years from now, there would be a significant quality increase.

True! There are lots of very nice resorts and such elsewhere on Phuket. But for solo travelers I think nightlife is a big concern. I think most people focusing on nightlife will end up in Patong for a few nights at the least in Phuket. And Phi Phi is just much better for that as long as someone is under 35 and in good shape physically.
