I recently traveled Shanghai, Beijing and HK, staying 5 days in each city. I used WeChat and Badoo. I am tall, blonde and Chinese girls seem to like me for my appearance. I prefer girls opening me online to doing that work myself.

Beijing:
I had about 5 girls messaging me on WeChat. 2 were obvious fakes/pros to which I did not respond. Two others I chatted with and met one later. I just came back from two weeks in Shanghai (disclaimer: no gaming and no nightlife adventures, it was a family visit - but after six exciting and exhausting weeks in Thailand I didn't mind a little time off with nothing more engaging than a little sightseeing), and one thing that stood out to me - aside from horrendously bad Internet and poor manners and sporadic rudeness from many locals - was the distinct lack of attractive girls on the streets.

Sure, the winter clothes did necessitate full focus on their faces, but after rarely being able to walk a hundred meters anywhere in Bangkok - or most other not-entirely-touristy places i visited in Thailand - without coming across at least a handful of girls I would very happily bang, and a wealth of very beautiful girls, it was somewhat disappointing to very often being able to walk 500 meters in Shanghai without coming across even one. In two weeks I certainly did see some attractive - and perhaps a good handful of very attractive - girls, but they were few and far between.
Describing the street level - including shops and malls - quality (certainly at this time of the year, maybe pretty girls have people running outdoors errands for them in the winter) I would probably generously pick the words "extremely plain".

Hard to believe that I didn't find this thread BEFORE my trip. After just getting back from two weeks in HK, Shenzen and Guilin, I was excited to tell everyone about:

1. how great Badoo is in HK (I went 6 for 8 in 5 days of dating in HK). Most are Pinay/Indo maids, but I also met a couple of HK women (no dates this time but those books are not closed).

2. how wonderful this communication tool called WeChat is in China (while logistically I couldn't game (family with me)) simply being able to communicate with random people I met at the tea shop and on the boat/bus was AMAZING compared to travelling in China 25 years ago. The possibilities for game were amazingly obvious... for christ sake, it TRANSLATES messages in real time for you!!! Boom, lower that language barrier right down. Now, three days later, I've got "friends" messaging me friendly notes still. Incredible.

3. Google and Bing Translate both have the ability to translate written text if you simply shoot a pic of it. Google reliablity sucks so make sure you know where to find Bing's features before you go.

4. For American users of T-mobile, your phone from home works wonderfully in both China and HK. Before you leave the airport in both cases, you should have a text welcoming you to the country. Surprisingly GPS in HK is often vague. You'll be standing at a corner trying to figure out where you need to go and your location mark will suddenly slide a block or two. IN China GPS was solid but funnily enough apps won't tell you the street names: "In 200 meters, turn left onto __________." etc. 3g was max speed in China and out in the country it went down to 2g but I hit very few spots where I had no signal.

For anyone that is travelling in China, INSTALL WeChat BEFORE you go and learn to use it!

In any case, I WAS so excited to say all of the above. But, well, at least I can bump this excellent thread.

Any long term China hands figured out how to utilize the moments feature to lock down flaky girls that you have on wechat but don't seem keen on meeting? Seems useful but I really don't like broadcasting to a bunch of random acquaintances what I'm doing on a weekly basis.

I'm a new user but I've been in China for a little over two years.

Usually, posting moments will not yield a girl to come back to you, but it does happen on occasion. If you're posting some DHV thing about yourself like traveling, and showing how awesome your life is, girls will come out of the woodwork and like it or comment on it. That gives you a window to strike up a conversation and try to meet up again. I'd say those types of girls are mainly a waste of time though. If they don't meet up with you after 2 or 3 invites after you first meet them, they're not interested.

This is a decent guide. I would add, for those planning to use WeChat to meet girls, beware of scammers and prostitutes. The number of scammers and prostitutes has shot up, especially in the big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, in the touristy and major hotel areas. If you're visiting one of these cities for business or vacation, and are staying in the Hilton for example, the majority of girls you add in your area will probably be pimps posing as hookers.

I've gotten a decent number of lays for free in the past off it, but those days might be coming to an end as more pimps and scammers take to WeChat as a money-making front. Just as they did with Momo.

Yeah "Look around" has become entirely useless in China itself but in other countries it can work really well to find Chinese girls on holiday or otherwise visiting. Using it in Europe in Summer is my secret goldmine especially if you play up the "knowledgeable local" angle.

Yep. That's pretty much because every inhabited area in Central, Kowloon and most of the NT is 20 stories or above. Hong Kong is literally a man made canyon and GPS sucks ass there.

That's true but you can't have specific moments only broadcasted to certain tags. Some of the moments I post are general stuff that's not personal and I'm fine with everyone seeing it. Other times it's more DHV/personal oriented and I only want my prospects to see it - haven't been able to figure out how to only have certain moments go to certain users.

So you are under the impression that the re-engagement rate from girls after seeing/commenting on an interesting moments post is relatively low? May not be worth putting all my info and pics out there then for strangers to see.

One thing that's been frustrating is how people add each other on wechat that they have no intention of ever seeing or speaking to again. It's becoming the same thing as giving out your business card here, it provides very little indication of whether she's really interested in you or not.

Sometimes I think that Wechat is fundamentally a game changer but other times it seems like meeting someone in person and having a real connection is still the way to go.

I think it definitely helps to have a profile full of you in interesting locations, activities etc with plenty of photos...mine is still pretty empty and I often get asked by recently added girls why that is. I had very limited success with wechat look around. I found almost every other app (tinder, okcupid, thebeijinger, momo, badoo) to be better. I only ever got real traction in Wudaoku (the student area), the CBD and even Sanlitun was well over 50% hookers and fakes, to the point that wading through the bullshit wasn't worth it.

A few notes on Wechat game: Chinese girls love gifs. Send more gifs. You can have entire conversations using gifs. It's probably better than talking. If you find some hottie on Wechat look around, don't send her the usual crappy message in either awkward Chinese or worse yet hope that she speaks English. Send her a gif. If you're trying to restart a conversation, send her a gif. If she replies to your gif with a gif, send her another gif. But you have to watch out for your gifs. Even your gifs can't be too forward. I've gotten bad feedback from a gif of a minion kissing. Keep it goofy and light hearted. Anything with that Japanese bear is solid.

You maximize the amount of good, happy thoughts she associates with you, you don't have to hope she understands what you're saying, and this is literally how Chinese people talk online. GIFS!

I used to rip People Nearby a new asshole (about a girl a month) a year-1.5 years ago, but these days it's not been so good. My tips and commentary.

- Post moments in both English and Chinese. Don't be the guys always posting links and your thoughts like some chick would do - post substantive, interesting shit with photos and your take on them. These girls know about Chinese bots and scammers and hate them, too.
- Turn on Nearby anywhere you go, takes like 5 seconds.
- Don't be so brutal with the ping, just have it on. With two exceptions, all of the girls (out of 10-15) that I banged off Nearby found me, not the other way around.
- I almost never add guys who find me. They're overwhelmingly gay, or pimps. In my town they get ignored but when I'm on the road, I add them the odd time to data mine them ('Hey man, what club has the best chicks?' and the like).
- I don't care how hot she is, unless she's DTF NOW, I don't add girls that constantly hawk shoes, clothes, makeup and shit.
- I agree that you shouldn't instantly be like 'Let's meet up!', that's showing your hand...but you also don't want to let it go too long either - else you become 'my foreign friend'. If you're batting it back and forth with her for an hour and she's replying quick and asking if you have a GF and posting that [Shy] emoticon a lot, then you can move forward. Every girl is different.
- Lots of girls have no intention of meeting you but just want face with their friends or to practice their English. How do you spot these girls? They generally will throw up a bunch of bullshit about meeting you.
- Minimizing the odds of Eskimo Brotherhood: Let's face it - in China and everywhere else, there are girls that just love to bang a lot of foreigners. If you add a girl and your spidey-sense is tingling, look back through her moments - maybe a friend or casual acquaintance of yours liked it in the past?
- A few times a year I purge contacts. I look for girls I haven't spoken to for 4-6 months, hail mary something and if no reply, delete. If you try to look at a girl's photos but you can't see them, you've been deleted or blocked...bye bitch! I don't like having a ton of redundant contacts, and having to sift through hundreds of people to find someone I need to message.
- My criteria to add: girls who aren't selling shit, and she should have at least three photos in her '10 moments' of herself. Ask any foreigner you meet and chances are they've been 'catfished' (I have).
- I see the OP went to Chengdu, that's where I live, and yes he is right (I know an Austrian Chinese girl...). In Shanghai and BJ maybe 1 in 5 people speak competent (workable, but not fluent) English...in Chengdu it's about 1 in 20. You need at least some semblance of Chinese ability.
- ...that said, I have heard more than once that Sichuan chicks are the easiest in China and being on the ground, I just don't see it (my vote is Zhejiang-Shanghai) - I mean of course I've yanked girls out of the club and banged girls in less than an hour after finding me on Nearby - but I did that in Hangzhou too. Biggest tits though, that is true. Every day see lots of girls with D's, DD's and bigger, I banged an F-cup last spring, my current #1 is a 32C.
- Not a Wechat musing, but Chongqing = Twice the size of Chengdu with half as many foreigners. I'll be going in June.

All in all a very important tool (I use it to communicate with co-workers and employers)...but there's no substitute for hitting the streets.

I had a trip split between Chongqing and Chengdu, and from my experience I cannot recommend Chongqing. I was curious about it because of the lack of foreigners (my goal was also to practice Mandarin, for which lack of foreigners is good), but what I found was that majority of women were really shy about meeting a foreigner. The point is that the prevalence of groupie culture seems to indicate how likely the normal girls are willing to meet a foreigner.

As a final note, I agree on the fact that girls who find you on People nearby are likely to end up in a bang, while the other way around very rarely. In fact all my bangs happened that way (sample size very small, only 3). Tens of hours of time wasted in chatting up people on WeChat, Tantan, bars, streets and malls while all I had to do is to sit on my ass and wait people to ping me. Next time I will probably not spam so many people and focus on the people that find me. Now I spammed so many girls that I sometimes forgot to keep conversation going on with girls that maybe were genuinely interested.

It's quite interesting because if you ask people in Chengdu about CQ and vice versa you'll often hear that they think they're really similar. A lot of people from Chongqing work/study in Chengdu and vice versa so it's odd that you had such a profoundly different experience.

I haven't made it to CQ yet either and I've still got tons of girls to go through in Chengdu which on top of that is just a plain great city to start with. So maybe I'll give it a shot next year.

Two years after the trip I posted about above, I did another "language exchange" trip to China, this time spending 3,5 weeks in Xiamen in the south. I chose this place due to good weather and offers lots to see for a tourist, as well as an international and foreigner friendly atmosphere (in mainland standards anyway).

While I was genuinely happy with my progress in Mandarin, in terms of sexual experiences this trip almost ended up in catastrophe. Luckily a girl I met on an earlier trip came over from another city and saved me from needing to go home with purple balls. Generally I felt that game has gotten a bit harder in China and male thirst seems to be in all time high. I attribute this to the fucked up gender ratio and internet porn being banned (which I don't remember being the case two years ago).

The male surplus problem seems to be a well acknowledged, I had two different occasions where a random guy chats me up asking where I'm from, followed by the question what is the gender ratio in my country lol. Even if the effect is theoretically marginal, I can't help but think it has a psychological effect of making guys more thirsty and women more picky. In practice I noticed this in TanTan where ladies seem to have even less attention span than before. Make sure to ask her WeChat before she closes the app never to be seen again.

I'm not blaming external factors for my lack of success though. I was wasting lots of time by meeting youngish girls from HelloTalk for language exchange, hoping to find a nerdy girl that turns into nympho when I bring her to my condo. I found one that had just broken up after 2 year relationship with a Mexican, and figured out she must be non-virgin and into foreigners. Wrong, on 5th date I bring her to my condo and after a kiss she is literally shaking and admitting being a virgin. Lesson learned, do light kino on first date (but be subtle with this in China), and do your conclusions if she avoids touch.

What comes to Xiamen and Fujian province, I wasn't impressed by the beauty. To be honest they didn't seem to be impressed by me either. Quick glances but no stares. I also visited Fuzhou (capital of Fujian): not even glances and I didn't see even one girl I would remember 10 minutes later. Compare that to Chengdu where I got stared and smiled at daily by cute girls (I'm average european looking guy btw). Which reminds me, during my trip I got a considerable amount of HelloTalk messages from Chengdu girls (more than BJ+SH combined). I don't know what the hell is going on there but I will 100% go check it out again if I ever decide to do another China trip.

In conclusion, I can't stress enough the importance of weeding out virgins, asexuals and other timewasters during a short trip to such a conservative country. Also consider focusing on 26-30 age range, which contains tons of women terrified of becoming "leftover". Play the numbers game and find that slut, there are plenty of them as well.
