Paying for the girlfriend was dumb but I'd still say props to the dude overall. When hes 70 I can't see him looking back and going "oh no, those 10 days I spent in Thailand with an attractive girl having lots of sex and doing amazing activities was such a waste". Its a far more interesting adventure than 99% of people do at 22.

If hes already going to come out of college 100k+ in debt whats an extra 2.5k in comparison to the life experiences/memories gained?

I don't really see it that dumb to pay for your girlfriend to travel with you. It's all relative. In his scenario this was likely a lot of money compared to his earnings. That is where its stupid.

But for a guy making good money it can be just a drop in the bucket.

I took a girl I dated for a few months to Varadero and paid for everything. Total cost was like $2,500 for a week at a 5* including airfare + nights out. I didn't feel like a chode at all for doing it. I'd do it again without thinking twice.
