Williams had previously entered a not-guilty plea, protesting the charges and accusing undercover Oakland police officers of misconduct, saying they taunted her during the Aug. 13, 2003 arrest at the apartment she rented near the Oakland Rose Garden. Police officials denied the accusations.

She later changed her mind because "this case has put a great deal of pressure on those who care about me," she said in a prepared statement.

Locally her case caught the attention of the Bay Area Sex Workers Outreach Project, a social justice network that seeks to protect sex workers and their rights.
