I read in the newspaper that at wednesday only 86 refugees did arrive in Germany. This is good and bad. Today are state elections in 3 states. If the other countries close the borders, they do Merkels work. Merkel hadn't to change her politics. The other reduce the numbers of invaders. Do the dirty work for her. So the problem seems to be solved without doing anything inside Germany. Without Merkel but she will profit from this. People will think the did keep the frame. The impact of the invaders was not strong enough. We have problems and in the future we face more problems. The system did not collapse because of all the volunteer work of the people. Not the government. We will face in summer probably more crime, more stuff that happen. But the people will accept it, they will vote again for Merkel. The shock of reality is not strong enough in the long run.
The change of Germany is a slow one, people will take one step back every day but its a small one. It don't feel like they get pushed against the wall. If the other countries did not close the borders, the social impact in Germany would be stronger. This strong impact could lead do an awakening. But so? I question it. The status quo will remain with Merkel in charge.

It's fairly straight forward, in general. If you are in legitimate danger of death or great bodily harm you can use lethal force to defend yourself. There are various different stipulations and varying regional laws, circumstances, but thats the basic standard most everywhere. It's up to the carrier to educate themselves on the law and make the right decisions.

You can't just use a gun in "self defense" any time you need to defend yourself- it's when your life is on the line. I think a lot of non Americans don't quite understand that. Vast majority of carriers take this very seriously. There isn't cowboy stuff going on.

So no, you can't just go around pulling guns anytime someone looks at you sidways. But yes, you certainly can defend yourself when justified. Legal self defense shootings happen every day.

About frequency- As per a CDC study, hundreds of thousands of people use firearms in self defense each year- most without ever having to fire a shot. Many millions of people have been saved by carrying a firearm. Many never report it, the numbers are likely even larger.

I just heard on the news that nationalist parties are expected to become the 3rd or even 2nd most voted political force in Germany after the federal elections, following Merkel's disastrous immigration policies. Can anyone in Germany comment on this? Do you think there's any hope for a 180 turn in these policies in the EU as a whole?

I seriously doubt it. The elites don't think in those terms. They won't look at AfD as the 3rd biggest party and say "oh these guys represent a huge chunk of the German population, let's consider their views", they'll just do whatever they intended and work on silencing and bullying them into submission.

If Merkel were able to rule all of Germany with just 1 MP, she would. You can count on that.

Today are election in 3 states. They just know more people participate then in the last votes. Later they will have the results. It will not have an influence, because Merkels Politics is done in the federal government, not in the single states. I will provide more information when there are some results.

AfD did quite well. Not enough to gain power. It would be not good to gain power for them because they are a new party. Now they can gain experience and use it for the next state elections and the federal election.
When the borders stay close, the status quo hold on, maybe the AfD will not gain any more votes. Or they blow each other up because they are a new political party with all kind of people. But you can see, many people disagree with the refugee politics. About the Greens in Baden Württemberg, the more local you go, the more the person matter, not the political party.
