What's really stupid is trying to compete directly with a country that doesn't play by the same rules and where the standard of living for the average factory worker is atrocious.

We should also open the borders to anyone that wants to work here from anywhere!

Increased competition makes everything better! We will get in better shape!

It does, only to a degree though. Too much competition will end a civilization.

It's like saying hey let's have a club that lets in 100 truly desperate horn dog IRT's that go hog wild approaching and all over the 30 attractive girls there. Complete sausagefest. Bitch shields on rape prevention blast. This will improve your game!

I'd rather be in the club with the strict door policy and there are 3 girls to every guy. Keep the "competition" outside.

Can someone chime in? Did the CS help French industry?

Maybe, but only at the expense of European consumers.

The Trump message on Chinese taking away US jobs is really stupid. American consumers took away US jobs when competition increased. If you can't win a competition when you have to compete, do you think not running the race is going to get you into better shape? The answer is unequivocally no.

The real problem is that when a factory closes, those jobs disappear, and generating new jobs becomes difficult, because whereas a factory job was something anyone could do, the new economy pays big dividends for brains, but not much else. In effect, the global supply of cheap labor is virtually unlimited, and the breaking down of trade barriers and the triump of free market capitalism has lifted billions out of poverty. This has come at the cost of a massive increase in competition against American workers, especially lesser educated ones.

US manufacturing is higher than ever, but the NUMBER of jobs is down. Those jobs are gone anyway, as manufacturing becomes increasingly efficient and automated. That's no argument to speed up the process though.

The policy question is: how do we prevent the destruction and collapse of American communities as jobs are created and destroyed at increasingly fast rates, when the rewards to cognitive ability are higher than ever?

Bernie Sanders and Trump's answers are unimaginative and predicated on a totally false understanding of economics. I will vote for Trump on the immigration issue alone, but on this matter he is just wrong.

Nah, you're incorrectly applying the classical economic model to a situation not accounted for by classical economics.

That is, the currency peg.

Right now China, India, and other 3rd world shitholes have a currency peg which keeps their citizens enslaved. No matter how much they work, they get a x6 or more devaluation to their earnings relative to the USD.

That's why China's GDP per capita has barely gone up relative to it's overall GDP. Same for the USA, because our corporations aren't paying US workers they are paying slaves in third world countries while the elites of the third-world also bag tons of profits. Average citizens in both countries lose hard. The only way to break the abuse of third-world slaves is though tariffs.

China GDP per capita: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/china/gdp-per-capita
China GDP: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/china/gdp

Time to update yourself on theory: /thread-54249.html

We really haven't lifted that many people out poverty, you're just repeating capitalist propaganda without examining the facts. The average Chinaman isn't much richer than he was 10 years ago, they've just stopped reproducing while trying to hoard bitcoins and gold to preserve the value of their ever devaluing renminbi.

Tariffs would do wonders right now to stop the enslavement and raise standards of living everywhere, but unfortunately big corporations will take a hit.

By the way, more polling news:

New Florida polls shows Trump's lead evaporating, as he's only up 38-30 on Rubio.

But wait! There's more. Basically, their methodology is shit. Buried in the fine print of the survey is the following (bold is mine):

Quote:The Monmouth University Poll was sponsored and conducted by the Monmouth University Polling Institute from March 3 to 6, 2016 with a statewide random sample of Florida voters drawn from a list of registered Republican voters, who participated in a primary election in 2012 or 2014 or voted in both of the last two general elections, and indicate they will vote in the presidential primary on March 15, 2016.

Previous primary voters? People vote for both sadsack McCain and Romney? Trump is bringing in all manner of people who haven't voted in primaries before! Therefore I believe it's underreporting Trump's support and he's still 40%+ in Florida.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
Ted Cruz to receive endorsements from... his colleagues in the senate.

Quote:Ted Cruz’s colleagues may loathe him, but they seem to have found somebody they dislike even more. With the prospect of Donald Trump’s nomination looming over the GOP, Cruz is set to unveil endorsements from at least four senators this week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Until now, Cruz had failed to earn the endorsement of even a single Senate colleague, a fact Trump and other presidential rivals have been quick to use against the Texas freshman. But as many senators see Marco Rubio’s prospects dimming, some are beginning to make peace with Cruz, convinced that he’s the only candidate who can stop Trump. If Rubio can’t clinch his home state of Florida on March 15, yet more may come forward to back the devil they know.

The forthcoming endorsements are a sign that the members of the upper chamber are beginning to abandon their personal grievances in order to preserve the Republican party of old.
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/432...dorsements

Look like the republican establishment will rally behind Cruz, they might hate Cruz but they hate Trump more. The biggest enemy of Trump is the Republican party.

Samseau has it 100% right.

In short, the US economy enslaves people to work their whole lives by putting them in debt with credit cards and brainwashing them into mindless consumerism (easily acquired student loans and mortgages too).

The Chinese economy wants the same thing the US does, an easily manipulated population that has to work from youth to death with no break in between. However, they're a creditor nation, so they just do it differently, by making money worth less all the time so nobody can ever retire.

Samseau has it 100% right.

For instance, the US economy enslaves people to work their whole lives by putting them in debt with credit cards and brainwashing them into mindless consumerism (easily acquired student loans and mortgages too).

The Chinese economy wants the same thing the US does, an easily manipulated population that has to work from youth to death with no break in between. However, they're a creditor nation, so they just do it differently, by making money worth less all the time so nobody can ever retire.

The U.S. and China are becoming remarkably similar as well. Both are instituting more and more capital controls to keep money circulating inside the country's financial institutions and only in the ways they want.

Which states should we reasonably expect Trump to win tomorrow? Michigan is obviously a big one and one he should win. Idaho I'm assuming will go to Cruz, Hawaii to Rubio (?) and Mississippi to Trump.

Do I have that right?

Reagan, too, was accused of "xenophobic" rhetoric. This "worried" diplomats. It certainly worried Iran's diplomats, enough that they released US hostages right on Reagan's election. There was actually a joke about it at the time:

I agree but don't think owning a decent-sized home to raise a family is mindless consumerism. That's just a high standard of living in America that we should try to maintain if we can.

I think the problem with mortgages is that investors are still screwing with the US housing market. Home prices are still inflated, they have not yet reverted to the stable prices they were before the subprime crisis.

I think immigration harms the housing market too but I have no data to prove that.

RE: The Donald Trump thread
Article taken from business insider.com
Titled: here's where migrant workers in America send their money

The World Bank has data on remittances from the U.S. to 155 different countries, adding up to a total of about $123 billion sent home by migrants.

The countries with the biggest flows were Mexico, India, China, and the Philippines. Mexico had almost $23 billion in remittances, and migrants from each of India, China, and
the Philippines sent over $10 billion home.
------------
Example to send $100CAD to Mexico will cost about $12. Since over $20 billion USD is sent yearly the transfer agencies are making about $2 billion USD alone. Never mind licensing fees, franchise fees and currency exchange fees and adjustments. Some lobbyists are splashing a smidget of that cash around buying politicians via campaign donations. A multi billion dollar revenue stream is about to take a hit if certain policies are installed which certain people don't want.

No wonder the foreign diplomats are complaining .... Yet the press says its trumps tone and (insert racist term in here ) stances.

They can't be direct and honest and say that they depend on remittance payments for part of their economy. Maybe they are too ashamed to say it.

Whoever sent money via western union locally or overseas knows that there are fees to be paid on top of currency exchange fees if applicable. A few are getting rich keeping this system going strong.
