Can any military guys chime in about his skills? To the layman (me), they seem impressive.

I have a lot of firearms training on both the military and civilian sides. Looks to me like he's shooting in a "3 Gun" match. His skills look reasonably well-developed, not master level but good, though I'd like to see his hits on the cardboard targets. It's easy to shoot fast if you don't care about accurate hits.

Having done similar 3 Gun competitions myself, I can say that he's doing well enough. But if you run through the same course 50x, but show only your best run as though it's your only/first run, anyone can look like a pro.

I've seen female competitors perform just as well.

Now about his acting skills...

After learning how to dodge them, it makes sense to learn how to fire them.

That chick following him, is it Trinity? I wonder if this is a hobby or if he's preparing for another role.

At 0:24 you can see him remove a stovepipe without changing sight picture. He removes the stovepiped shell, cocks the action to rear and continues on in one nice smooth motion, without tilting the gun sideways to inspect.
Editor should've slow mo-ed that sequence instead of after. Pretty bad-ass right there.

It's not a stovepiped round. There's a shell caddy mounted to the right of the barrel. Still, it's a pretty quick reload.

This is just 3 gun competition, it's fun as fuck. I really doubt it's for a role, or preparing for 'armageddon', it's just a fun great hobby.
Expensive as hell though (not the competition itself, but the practicing) now, what with ammo prices even for target ammo. (for me anyways).

I always liked Keanu. His acting is hilarious and he always strikes me as someone who really doesn't take himself too seriously and fluked into Hollywood and kept it going.

I'm not a military guy, just someone heavily into guns. What Keanu is doing here definitely looks cool and impressive on film. And there's no question that he's quite skilled at it. He's probably either training for John Wick 2 or doing competition shooting.

However, if he's training to be "tactical" in real-life, prioritizing speed is the wrong approach. A tactical shoot is going to prioritize being precise and methodical over being fast. Being slow doesn't look cool, but it could save your life by preventing you from overlooking a bad guy because you wanted to be fast.

Just learned that Keanu trained with Taran Butler, a pretty well-known 3-Gun and practical pistol competitor. I've seen Taran shoot, and he's SCARY good. But yeah, as mentioned above, what Keanu is doing isn't "tactical" or anything. It's just run and gun and have fun - nothing wrong with that.

A 1-4x optic with an illuminated reticle is, IMO, ideal for a general purpose AR-15.

If he has a high hit percentage in those courses, he's pretty damn good. Looks very smooth and comfortable.

I would think that in such close quarters an ACOG or EOtech would prove more effective.
