Former Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey McClendon dies in car crash
"Aubrey McClendon, the former CEO of Chesapeake Energy, died in a single car crash Wednesday..."

OK former CEO in a crash, tragic. But then....

"...a day after he was indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiring to rig bids for oil and natural gas leases."

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2016.../81221866/

UH-OH:

"On Tuesday, McClendon, who co-founded Chesapeake Energy and is part owner of the NBA team Oklahoma City Thunder, issued a defiant statement, denying he violated antitrust laws."

"McClendon said the indictment is "wrong and unprecedented.” He said he's been "singled out" in being charged for conspiracy in joint bidding on leasehold."

So Everyone was doing it when oil was booming, but now some bad business is rolling back? This will get brushed under mainstream media, but we all know Big Energy is an ugly business. Accident, Suicide, Murder? The timing is uncanny.

wow. I applied for a job at Chesapeake years ago. He basically invented the shale gas/oil revolution. Chesapeake was a booming company. Now they're doing really badly.

He was charged with fixing bidding on lands to get a lower price. From what I heard on the news even 1 count could land him 10 years. They must've had really good evidence for him to know he's fucked, because he's still quite rich.

Has the body been recovered from the crash scene? This smells like a fake death and he could be halfway to a secluded island in the South Pacific by now.

I thought the exact same thing man. I read about the indictment at 7 this morning, heard he was dead at 10 and my mind was spinning. At first I thought it was a hit but then wondered why someone would take him out if he was going to prison anyway unless it's some business partners who don't want to be found out. Then I jumped to false suicide since he's got plenty of money to set it up, take off, and plan what's next. McClendon has had all kinds of prior scrutiny including issues with loans, lawsuits against Chesapeake when he was there, quasi-shady deals between Chesapeake and the Thunder (he was a co-owner) and he never pulled a trigger or did any wacky shit.

He probably just got a fresh haircut and massage on some Venezuelan beach and is reading the forum over some spotty wifi. Wave Hi Aubrey. Wave

Or he could of said "fuck it" and drove straight into a tree.

His last words were, "I should have never taken the Sonics from Seattle!"

I always thought Chesapeake looked too much like Cheapskate.

what a shitty way to kill yourself. there's a decent chance you would survive and end up drooling from a wheelchair the rest of your life.

should've pulled a lamar odom and gone out with drugs and prostitutes.

Looking like a suicide:

"McClendon, 56, crashed into an embankment while traveling at a “high rate of speed” in Oklahoma City just after 9 a.m. local time, said Capt. Paco Balderrama of the Oklahoma City Police Department. Flames engulfed McClendon’s vehicle “immediately,” Balderrama said. He added that police determined McClendon was not wearing a seatbelt after earlier being unable to tell."

“He pretty much drove straight into the wall,” Balderrama said.

He said police still needed to determine an exact cause of the crash, but a medical event was “possible.”
McClendon was expected to turn himself in at 11 a.m., Balderrama added.

I agree with Disco_Volante, gotta be a better way to go than this.

Well I am sure he lived it up for a while. I imagine if he gone to prison it would be some minimum security prison with a decent living standard. He would have had to pay fines but still have plenty of cash I imagine. At least he didn't take anyone else out with him. But what little I know of him, he seemed a bit of a smug prick.
