I finished season one last night.

Pretty well done, and can attest to the high quality of titties.

Looking forward to season two.

I feel like they rushed the timing in the final episode.. But overall it was quite interesting

RE: Narcos: New Netflix Series About Pablo Escobar
It seems like they are rushing the story though. By the end of this season, we are at the end of 1992, when Escobar escaped from the Prison. That leaves only a year's worth of events until his death, so I'm guessing season 2 will be the last. I think they could've slowed it down a bit more, particularly the period before Pablo became ultra-rich.

Being a native speaker, when I first saw the trailer I rolled my eyes at Wagner Moura speaking Spanish. But he grew on me. His acting is superb, and I was able to overlook his accent. I agree that the actor who plays Murphy gives a wooden performance, and he's way out of his league when he's alongside Pascal (plays Javier Peña). They could have gotten a better looking wife for him as well. She's a bit homely. Lots of hot Latinas in the show (they're mostly Mexican), especially the one who played a prostitute/love interest to Peña. WB and wife up. And I agree, the 2nd season may be it's last. They seem to be rushing through everything.

However, it has 74 episodes so it's a lot more detailed than the abbreviated version for the Gringo market. Just finished watching the first episode and it's very well done.

Highly recommended if you enjoyed the English version.

RE: Narcos: New Netflix Series About Pablo Escobar
Thread bump: I know that the story of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel is huge with the success of the series Narcos but I recently discovered that there's another series about the Cali Cartel called En La Boco Del Lobo. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Cali Cartel, their story is just as interesting although lower key than the Medellin cartel, after Escobar was killed they scooped up the market and went onto become the biggest cocaine cartel in the world. Unfortunately the series is only in Spanish, there's 80 episodes, so for Spanish speakers who are interested, you should check it out.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

This show is excellent. The guy who plays Escobar should win an Emmy and the guy who plays the American DEA agent makes me wonder if that guy was actually that much of a badass in real life. The acting is suburb.

There's also "El Cartel de los Sapos", 2 seasons which is on Netflix. It starts after Escobar's death, and is based of Andres Lopez Lopez's account of his time in the Cali Cartel.

Of course there's also the 70 episode "Escobar, Patron del Mal" which seems pretty detailed.

I love these shows about brutal narco bosses or mafia dons. There's something really alluring about them.

They should hurry up and do a Netflix series on Salvatore "Toto" Riina, without a doubt one of the most vicious gangsters of the 20th century.

This "Narcos" Thread needs a recommendation for everybody to also watch the Documentary called "Cocaine Cowboys", which is on Netflix right now too. It's a great Documentary about the Miami side of the Escobar era. The original one is the best and there's two newer ones that I have heard mixed reviews about that I haven't yet watched.

RE: Narcos: New Netflix Series About Pablo Escobar
I am 4 episodes in and enjoying the series.

However, sometimes I get pissed off when watching it. I think about what a massive policy failure it depicts.

The drug war is a massive waste of resources and lives, and an outrageous assault on an individual's control over his/her own body.

All drugs should be fully legal. People choose for themselves. As a practical matter, I'm not going to start smoking crack just because it's available at the local government run drug store.

Take 10% of the more than hundred billion USD spent every year on military style drug intervention, incarceration, etc, and use it for robust and spohisticated public health programs to treat and prevent addiction.

Money saved. Less lives ruined. Greater respect for freedom of choice.

I grew up in a town that has been ravaged by meth and now heroine, and I disagree.

The sharp increase in murders, burglary, and violent crimes that has happened, mainly since the introduction of cheap heroine, makes me want to see both of those drugs outlawed and all heroine dealers drawn and quartered. Fucking scum.

Before I would have agreed with you. I have no problem with people doing whatever drug they want, as long as it doesn't hurt others. But the change I've seen in my town since heroine has come along, so many murders and other heinous crimes (kidnapping and torture/rape of those held hostage by a junkies), makes me draw a hard line against it.

Coke, ecstasy, weed, etc. I have no problem with being legal. But heroine I am firmly against.

Anyways, back on topic, Narcos was pretty good. I also thought it was moving way too fast. I think season 1 should have focused on Pablo's come up before he was wealthy and a well known figure. It seems like they crammed 10 years into 10 episodes.

RE: Narcos: New Netflix Series About Pablo Escobar
^^^

What would that small town be like if the heroin and meth (regulated for purity, along with all other drugs,) were available at minimal cost for the average recreational user from a government monopoly? Or even for free for registered addicts?

There would be no heroin or meth dealers.

There would be no need for addicts to steal.

There would be less people getting shipped off to the local or provincial jail or prison.

There would be no need for narcotics police.

Now, what if a portion of the prison savings, police savings, and drug sales were used to fund a robust and professional treatment and education program? Education for youngsters, medical treatment for addicted adults?

Instead of police walking the streets and busting up motels, have community outreach health workers.

I think less people would use drugs in this scenario, and that the ones who did would cause less harm to society and less harm to themselves.

Would it be perfect? No. But nothing is.

And using force/prohibition doesn't work.

The second one is actually somewhat interesting from a Game perspective (some smart street level black gangster type decides to game Griselda in prison for her cocaine connections). It was a pretty clever actually, she can only bribe the guards for conjugal visits occasionally, so he gets a massive Columbian cocaine connection and rarely has to put out. Unfortunately, he can't break character during the documentary, so he keeps on telling some sappy love strory about how much he's in love with that hunk.

Yup, the main issue with junkies is when they can't get their junk. That's why we have methadone clinics...they can even work a lot of jobs with a light buzz all day. Hell, there was an illiterate chinese peasant that became a billionaire while smoking opium every day. And meth used to be a first line treatment for ADD - thousands of people took meth every morning with their coffee and just went to work and did their jobs without spiralling into the craziness we see today.

I'm not saying there still wouldn't be a lot of people that can't handle their booze or whatever and still have problems, but I don't think it would be dramatically worse than today. Even if it were, the costs of this police state are gargantuan...and not just to the US. This black market is enough to destabilize entire nations (like Mexico on our border). Putting the same amount of money and effort into education and treatment would have better effects, and legalization would crush the cartels.

When you take a young kid that is partying and making youthful mistakes into a felon that can't get a job, he often has nothing left to look forward to than drugs.

It would't bring back any of the people who have been murdered by piece of shit heroine and meth addicts who have tweeked out and lost their minds.

Would it stop the constant burglaries? Maybe, maybe not.

Would it stop the knifings and other violent crimes? No.

I think your scenario of cheap/free drugs like meth and heroine being readily available to whoever wants them would end up with even more people getting hooked on that shit.

People fucked up on meth and heroine are a danger to the people around them. If they just smoked meth and stayed in their homes I wouldn't care, but that isn't what happens. Meth makes people extremely paranoid, violent, and strong. They are dangerous. Giving them free drugs is no solution to me.

I'd rather we legalize or decriminalize marijuana, let those people out of jail, and throw the junkies in.

I do agree education and rehabilitation are necessary, and they should be getting more of that where they belong, behind bars.

Meth and heroin are already essentially legal. They're called Adderall and Oxycontin.

Also, here is a recent article about the effects of Portugal's decriminalization in 2001. Seems to be beneficial for the most part.

This scene was so intense it brought tears to my eyes.

That sounds pretty funny! Gaming one of the most gangsta women of all time would be a good challenge. I'll be watching that later on tonight. I watched the first 2 Episodes of "Pablo Escobar - El Patron Del Mal" last night and couldn't take that goofy guy playing Escobar seriously when he came in during Episode 2. I'm surprised there wasn't a Colombian uproar over that actor being chosen. "Narcos" blows it out of the water.
