Pre-RVF, I thought homeschooling was useless. The "social aspect" weighted too heavily on my brain. Kids should have fun and play sports.

Now that I see how useless most education is, and how much I want my family to be independent, I'm more inclined to it.

Granted, I'm decades away from having a family, but it's something to think about. I'd be interested if any of our senior members have done homeschooling. Other than elite private schools, it seems to be the best option for securing solid education.

The interesting part of this, for me, is that it's turning me off from dumb girls. I've always said "I don't care how smart girls are, as long as they're nice to look at and spend time with," but really, if you knock this girl up, you want one that will further the intelligence of your children.

It's hard for me, as a teacher, to really make a judgement without buying the subscription to see what it's really got. It seems legal and legit, though who knows how long given the OP's video.

I found a forum discussing the Ron Paul curriculum. Seems like the elementary school stuff is not impressive, but the upper grades are more so.

Thankfully I never had to teach in the US, though I am familiar with Common Core. To me the math is not inherently bad. When most of us do math in our heads, what we do is more like the various strategies taught in Common Core rather than the "standard algorithm" that you are all familiar with (the way we normally do problems on paper). I disagree mostly with requiring students to HAVE to learn several ways. One is not enough. Also they are taking away too much from the answer to give emphasis on the process. I think, as it is (or was) it is not so bad but things are always in motion and I don't like the direction. Especially in other threads, there have been examples of explicit sexual education content, LGBT oriented brainwashing, etc...

Are you really going to trust the government to teach your kids? The only ones who do that are the ones who were brainwashed in public education anyway. Which is most of everyone.

Very few truly private schools. Most receive federal funds. And they teach the same standards as the public schools. They have to to get the funds. It may even be illegal for them not to teach the same standards now. The only real benefit is that there are probably fewer "special needs" kids and monsters that would detract from your child's education by being in the same classroom and needing to be accommodated (often at the detriment of all).

It's going to be. Even homeschooling isn't immune.

This is the primary reason for private school. My little cousin's grades went from Cs to As when he transferred to a private school. And it's not just the grades, he's actually learning more. I quizzed him over Christmas and he's light years ahead of where he was last year.

Not at all. Private schools weed out the riff raff. Like living in an affluent community - you're going to have a significantly higher standard because of the selectivity.

After a few minutes of socializing you can almost always tell which kids went to private and then prep schools growing up vs public.

You don't need private school. There are still good public schools around, you just have to be in a good area.

The problem isn't the school system. The general problem tends to home life. I went to one of the top 100 schools in the USA. I was fucking up in school. It has nothing to do with education at that point. It was purely family life. If the family roots aren't strong, education reform can be considered worthless.

I have no idea what "fucking up in school" means, but I agree that family is a hugely important factor and most teachers would agree.

Of course, great family support and a terrible school won't do much good for children, but unless you are living in some inner-city hellhole, most schools will serve well enough for basic educational needs, provided that the family situation is stable and encourages commitment to educational goals.

Good luck motivating students who see no value in learning without parental support.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.
