RE: Moving to either Buffalo, NY or West Palm Beach, FL

WPB is pleasant, has good food, things to do, and would be a dream station. High quality women and social life are possible. Florida also has no state income tax so your check will reflect this once you declare yourself a resident.
WPB is not Miami, vastly different. But welcome, its an hour and 10 minutes!
Offtopic, how long do you guys wait to declare residency? Let's say OP is only in WPB for 6 months, would you switch all of your paperwork to Florida?
Or if I get transferred to Texas. Should I switch immediately since I know I can save on taxes, or wait until I'm settled in town and know I won't be moving anywhere?

I've spent more time than I care there and the majority of the people, while nice, are fat and ugly.
Buffalo is one of the worst cities in America.
I lived in Buffalo for 1 year as a child in the 80s. Most of the girls had polish, german blood and where thin. Buffalo wings and pizza were great together. The winters were hellish.
I would go back if it was like before.

There is an advantage to Buffalo. It is a cheap college town which translates to young tight pussy.
Here are some stats right off the bat.
Total population: 258,959
Student Enrollements
Canisius College: 4,537
Female Ratio: 54%
D'Youville College: 3,200
Female Ratio: 73%
Medaille College: 3,000+
Female Ratio: Not Available
Trocaire College: 1400
Female Ratio: 88%
Buffalo State College: 10,661
Female Ratio: 57%
Erie Community College: 14,328
Female Ratio: 49%
University at Buffalo: 29,994
Female Ratio: 45%
Total: 67,120
If your definition of fun is hitting the bars, this place will do fine. If you need more, I would recommend going to florida.

With that being said, at least you have warm weather, Buffalo is pretty shit. I can't really think of anything that is good about Buffalo - they have their own football team? (they suck). I had Buffalo pizza and it didn't seem all that unique either, so I'm not sure if food is even a big advantage (though I am sure it is better than food in FL).
I personally really hate the snow, I'm probably going to move a year from now just to get away from it.
I've been to Miami and thought that was pretty fun, but it struck me as a place that is good for the short term (which I will be). There were A TON of Euro chicks there as well as Latinas from South America and the Carribean (where my favorite ones come from, don't care for Mexican or Central American girls). I've also been to Ft. Lauderdale and didn't care for that place one bit. Most of the city seemed trashy and public transportation is poor. Orlando seems fun only if you're a 10 year old wearing a Mickey Mouse hat. Enjoyed it as a kid going to Disneyworld with family but it bored me to death when I went as a teenager and as an adult. I hear the most positive things about Tampa but its several hours away from where I would be stationed.
Never set foot in Buffalo but I have heard from people who liked the city a lot (as well as people who hated it). Everyone agrees that the winters suck there, but the people are pretty friendly, the food is good, and its a great sports town which is important to me. We'll see. I will be talking with my Chief on Monday. He wants me to stay here in Alexandria VA and I would be making bank if I stayed here with my advancement. I will lose money going to Florida and make about what I make now as an E4 in Buffalo with money still left over to save and travel if need be.

Now that I think about it, I've been to Buffalo before to visit friends who went to Buffalo University. They had tunnels and stuff for the snow, as do several cities around that area.
As some other poster mentioned, the college scene is pretty legit for meeting uni girls, but if you're over 22 or so, it'll probably be a little degrading.

People from Buffalo flock to Baltimore because it is a southern Buffalo but bigger, more sophisticated, more fun and better weather. Ask your self this - would you move to Baltimore form Alexandria? Would you move to Baltimore if it was 50% as good as it is now....because that is what Buffalo will be. Half as good as Baltimore but in the middle of nowhere with some some of the worst weather in North America.
I actually don't mind Baltimore and other blue collar cities and would live there again; it's just the people and politics in Baltimore I can't stand. But in terms of things to do, it's a pretty fun city. A lot of blue collar cities are sleepers for younger people because of the drinking and bar culture, affordable rent, and food options you wouldn't find in other places. Baltimore is just as much of a magnet for the white collar D.C and New York crowd as it is for people from Buffalo and Pittsburgh.
And other than Miami, I always found Florida to be pretty generic on my visits there. I don't have intel on West Palm Beach which was why I was inquiring about it. And I hate crippling humidity worse than I hate snow.
