Moving to either Buffalo, NY or West Palm Beach, FL
Hello gents,
Just got a call from a Warrant Officer in the Coast Guard and he gave me two choices for locations. I will be advancing in rank this July and will be moving that month from the D.C area. He wants an answer by tomorrow. I'm trying to decide on which area to move, and would appreciate your recommendations on people familiar with both areas, or any one of them. I will be there from 3 to 4 years depending on circumstance.
About me for those who don't know: 30 years old, African American, E4 in the United States Coast guard, single, no kids.
I've looked into both areas. Not too sure of the quality of girls in Buffalo nor West Palm Beach for that matter, but I know West Palm Beach is an hour away from Miami which would blow Buffalo (and most U.S cities) out of the water. However West Palm Beach itself has an much older population and a large amount of senior citizens, and Miami is a tough city to game in from my intel. Not too familiar with Ft. Lauderdale (which is about a 45 minute drive). Buffalo from what I have heard has a decent nightlife, a lot of good bars and restaurants, and very friendly people. The weather there as we all know is atrocious. It's almost two hours from Toronto, which I hear nothing but bad things about game wise but I'm sure has other offerings outside of that.
Any help is appreciated.

You serious bro?
Visit Buffalo right now. This is how it is for 9 out of 12 months.
Save yourself the agony.
Edit: Alright read more of the thread. OP if you like cold weather you might find the town enjoyable. Buffalo has chicken wings and Wegmans which make putting up with closed down part of the year more enjoyable. Chippawa street is where all of the bars and nights clubs are. Duff's Wings are better than the Anchor Bar.

I used to live about an hour drive from NYC in CT, and I went maybe 2-3 times per year and I didn't even have to drive. Miami is 1 hour away and you can party until 8 am if you want.
I also don't see how or why chain vs. non-chain restaurants or casino's make any difference whatsoever. Is eating out that important to you? You simply cannot compare Miami nightlife (or Ft. Lauderdale for that matter) to Buffalo. But hey, it's your call.
Good points, but I have read that Miami is one of the hardest cities to game in on these forums. I don't know the quality of women in Buffalo and I was hoping to gain some insights. I usually consider everything besides women when moving to a place, although the quality and approachability of women are an important consideration.
I do know that Buffalo has a burgeoning food scene with its famous wings, pizzas, and beef on weck sandwiches, and the food truck and craft beer scene is popping up there too. I recently contacted both bases and just found out (before I posted this thread) that I won't get housing money in West Palm Beach but will get it in Buffalo so I would have more money for travel and going out and would have my own place to bring back girls.
My best friend from high school lives in South Florida and he was usually great with women growing up, but has said that since moving there he has hit a dry streak.

Since we have met, I can confidently say WPB. Buffalo is an old falling apart forgotten about town with some of the worst weather in America.
WPB is pleasant, has good food, things to do, and would be a dream station. High quality women and social life are possible. Florida also has no state income tax so your check will reflect this once you declare yourself a resident.
WPB is not Miami, vastly different. But welcome, its an hour and 10 minutes!

I lived in Buffalo for a year and other areas in Western/Central NY most of my life. If you like the seasons, especially winter, than you will like Western NY. If you enjoy going to beautiful State parks, camping, wine country, lakes, woods, then Upstate NY is better.
There are plenty of good looking girls in Buffalo also and the cost of living is inexpensive of course.
I don't know anything about West Palm Beach, but if you like latina's (as I do) you will have greater access to them down there, and a shorter, cheaper flight to Colombia!

The Metropolitan Detroit area (meaning Detroit + its suburbs) where I currently reside is a shimmering cosmopolitan paradise compared to Buffalo, NY. That's how sorry Buffalo, NY is. Also keep in mind that I am a native of the Chicago area (lived there for close to 30 years) & I've visited Miami, Southern California, NYC, lotta the best areas in USA for nightlife. For the love of God please choose West Palm Beach. If your choice was between Albany, NY and West Palm Beach, MAYBE I'd have you consider Albany only because you could theoretically hit up NYC at least once a month. Buffalo is damn far from NYC though, may as well be in a different state. West Palm Beach is a hop skip and a jump from places like Fort Lauderdale. Miami is not a bad drive once a month or even once every couple weeks. Buffalo is more like an overgrown, dying small town with way too much lake effect snow.

Oh wait you can get them everywhere now.
Buff's wing sauce is one of a kind. I've had that shipped to my place before because i've wanted it so badly.
Regardless, i hate snow. I've seen 4 seasons my entire life. Winter in Western/ central NY is hell. Frigid, sub zero, and more snow to count. Shit followed me to Boston where it was even worse.
I've lived in LA and the UK right now. The UK is a tropical paradise compared to what the weather is In Buffalo right now. I refuse to live in cold climates with lots of snow.
Prepare to need snow tires on your car, watch the poor thing rust out, scrap feet of snow off of everything, snow blow or shovel your sidewalks, and watch night life disappear when October hits.
Cold weather makes people disappear.
