A guy I knew in college is running as a candidate for a minor elected position in a moderate sized city on the west coast. He's sort of what you'd consider to be a stereotypical "beta" dude in his mid 30s - been married to the same woman since college who bosses him around and he posts continual status updates on FB about how blessed and wonderful it has to have such an amazing woman in his life, etc.

To be considered for even minor offices it seems that usually (though of course there are exceptions here, we can all think of examples) one pretty much has to have lead a squeaky clean, "vanilla" lifestyle that will appeal to as broad a variety of boring people as possible. Gaming is likely very much out of the question.

Are there any successful politicos who could be considered to be "alpha", or is it not really the domain of that?

I think I understand your point. Certainly there have been many politicians (and of course they're usually the ones who are at higher level) who have been the biggest liars and cheats known to mankind. And fucked a decent amount of women, too. But I'm not sure that makes them "alpha", either.

So are there any politicians who could be definitively considered to embody say "alpha" or "neomasculine" values?

Lets make it plain and simple for you. A person's career doesn't make them alpha or beta(unless you're a male feminist). People from all walks of life can and have pulled or are/were alpha.

It's dependent on the person. It's not good to make blanket generalizations.

Politicians are trained to lie and deceive and avoid saying the wrong things which might offend their demographics (even if this means holding back their truth opinions), which is a bit on the beta side.
