Palestinian Man held on U.S. terror charges targeted Texas malls
Quote:(Reuters) - A Palestinian born in Iraq who entered the United States as a refugee was an Islamic State sympathizer planning to set off bombs at two Houston malls, a federal investigator was quoted as telling a U.S. court on Wednesday.

U.S. investigators began looking into Omar Faraj Saeed Al-Hardan in 2014 and found that he was buying components on eBay to detonate homemade bombs, the Houston Chronicle quoted Herman Wittliff, a Department of Homeland Security special agent, testifying at a federal court hearing.

Al-Hardan, 24, pleaded not guilty at the court in Houston to charges he supplied support to Islamic State and lied to U.S. officials, it reported.

A judge ordered that Al-Hardan be held without bail after prosecutors argued he was a flight risk and a danger to the community, it said.

He was charged with offering his services and material support to the militant group, according to an indictment unsealed last week. He also faces two charges about giving false information to U.S. officials over his ties to Islamic State and being provided weapons training.

The most serious charge carries up to 25 years in prison.

Al-Hardan was granted legal permanent residency status in the United States in August 2011, though he is not yet a U.S. citizen.

In a second related case last week in Sacramento, the U.S. Department of Justice said Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab, 23, who came to the United States in 2012 as a refugee from Syria, was arrested on a federal charge of making a false statement involving international terrorism.

More than 75 U.S. residents allegedly radicalized by Muslim militants have been arrested since 2014.

RE: Palestinian Man held on U.S. terror charges targeted Texas malls
Guys, let's just wait until all the facts come out. There is absolutely no indication that Omar Faraj Saeed Al-Hardan planned to bomb malls in the name of Islam or in the name of any Islamic terrorist organization. The same goes for Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab.

Islam is a religion of peace as outlined in the Koran, and any Muslim who plans or carries out a terrorist attack is not a true Muslim.

In fact, if we start to notice particular patterns where we perceive certain groups of people to be more likely to carry out terror attacks, it is in fact our prejudiced minds tricking us into believing something that doesn't really exist.

And if we trust our obviously flawed perception of reality, constructed by our obviously flawed minds, we are in fact no better than the terrorists themselves.

That's a highly euphemistic use of the word "shenanigans." That would be similar to saying that the women attacked in Cologne were subjected to a "struggle snuggle."

Actually, French-speaking migrants (and French police, too) call it "vol au gazon" (on-grass stealing/flying): the act of grabbing a local woman's pussy from behind, to startle her, "have fun" and steal her cellphone.

Let's also be sure not to condemn an entire religion for the actions of a few bad apples here. There are plenty of progressive and good moderate muslims out there who would condemn his actions.

Any muslim who blows up innocent people is not a true muslim of course. So if you think about it no muslim has actually committed or plotted to commit a terrorist attack ever because the ones who did weren't true muslims to begin with!

Also all other religions have people who have murdered someone in the name of religion at least once in history too. This means all religions have equal probability of having followers who commit violence.

Absolutely agree. It's that 99% that are giving the other 1% a bad name.

Pretty sure he was trolling. Or least politeness demands that I hope so, rather than assume someone is that stupid/ignorant/naive.

I read one comment from one of those videos referring to islam as the no true scotsman religion and that's absolutely on point. Feminism uses a similar tactic too and they also compared islam and feminism side by side. They all have extremist elements enabled by moderate followers who shit on non believers and then the moderates all then claim the perpetrators weren't real believers after all.

It's just convenient moving of goalposts to avoid any real public condemnation or scrutiny for what are dangerously flawed ideologies.
