Heart Attack Grill: Unabashedly Honest Restaurant Owner
Keep in mind, this is from 2011. See video below:

The ABC interviewer tried to skewer the owner using typical PC tactics... and he 100% unapologetically owns up to it.

Yes I used this boy's time in life to promote business.

Yes I am cashing in on his death to help build more business.

Yes our food is awful for people and I feel zero guilt about it.

I admire his resolve and applaud his ability to be completely transparent in the face of media telling it like it is and keeping it real as real gets. I also admire his business model cashing in on the shameless indulgence and ignorance of our shit-food loving culture. Having ladies in slutty nurse outfits is also pretty awesome. Would eat at just for the experience.

Need more dudes like this running shit and being straight up about it telling the world what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.

RE: Heart Attack Grill: Unabashedly Honest Restaurant Owner
There is nothing "honest" about the piece of shit who runs this place. He is an asshole and a hater.

His business is based on the disgusting and literary idea of "nutritional pornography". He is essentially a particularly nasty SJW of a certain kind who sees the (mostly extremely nice and gentle) fat Americans around him as sideshow freaks, mere props in his grim obsession. The gimmicks he uses -- the hospital gowns, nurse uniforms etc -- are pure camp, intentionally grotesque garbage. I wouldn't be surprised if this character turned out to be gay, or a closeted fag, he has that kind of vibe. Fuck him.

Meanwhile, in the real world, obesity rates in the US have started their long and inexorable decline, no thanks to this ghoul's "shock therapy":

Americans Are Finally Eating Less

I'm against gluttony but the Man vs Food series got my appetite up for many places in the US. If I visit I would like to go and get me a few large portions.

This is a great read on the social debate over this restaurant.

Thank God the 'Heart Attack Grill' is a great name.

Quote:You might guess that this news story is itself a kind of advertising for the Grill. This cynical view places not just two heart attack victims but all of CBS News at the service of a company's self-promotion. And you'd be right, another branding piece pretending to be a news story.

But we know what the author wants to be true, the question is what you want to be true: how does this story, like all pop-culture and pop-news, represent a wish fulfillment?

Talk about thinning the herd Tongue

Maybe this is what the "elites" are really doing on a larger scale. "Here, give us your money, and we'll give you the hedonism you want. The weak will get addicted to the hedonism and die, and the strong will reject it and live."

Of course, if you're strong, you likely also have a share in businesses like this, directly or indirectly Wink

Getting back to the video, I too like how the owner is unapologetic, especially in the face of the media, with its usual attempts at a hit piece. Fuck yeah.

Interesting take on it. I never would have came to a conclusion like this and certainly didn't expect anyone on this board to interpret it like that. Since you brought it to my attention, there does seem to be something deeply damaged about the guy considering the nature of his business and promotion. Almost lacking in empathy and humanity in general. I appreciate this perspective and definitely see where you're coming from.

Whenever I'm at my mother's she is always watching food network and it seems like that Diners Drive-ins and Dives show with Guy Fieri is always having a marathon. Nothing is healthy but so much of that shit looks so tasty. I did actually go to one of the places on the show because it's down the street from where I live but it didn't live up to the hype at all in my opinion. Place is cool and ultra-hip and all but food is pretty mediocre, though inventive.

The NYT article doesn't seem to indicate that the recent decline is part of an unstoppable trend - did I miss something?

What I got out of it was that the recent decline was primarily caused by cutting sugary drinks.

Low-hanging fruit, in my mind at least.

The article also says these cuts are still a fraction of the cuts to get back to 1978 calorie intakes. So a long way, assuming we continue that way.

Well, the article states that calories consumed have peaked at 2003, which is more than a decade ago, and at least one of the experts quoted describes the current data as a "turning point". There is evidence that attitudes began to change as early as 1999, and the charts shown in the article (which unfortunately cannot be embedded) show a steady and mostly monotonic decline in various measures of calorie consumption from 2004 through 2013, which is by no means confined to sodas.

Something that should be remembered is that it takes a long time for declines in calorie consumption to percolate into declines in actual obesity rates; the former are a leading, the latter a lagging indicator. But as long as calorie consumption continues to steadily decline, obesity rates are sure to follow.

No one can know the future, but all in all there are very good reasons to believe that obesity in the US has entered a long-term declining trend.

Funny how they explicitly mention the food being made from untrendy fat sources as if there's any caloric difference between different kinds of fat. Frying french fries in fat rendered from pixie tits instead of beef lard doesn't make them less energy dense.

I saw one of those tower burger meals on the menu they showed as 12-ish dollars. If you go to Blackpool Tower Casino they have a Tower Burger for £25!

The American version is cheap in comparison.

Holy shit! Sounds like this dude fucked your sister or something. Have you ever eaten here or are you just waxing eloquently about a place you know nothing about?

(If you are quoting an SJW from a magazine or something and I didn't realize it then disregard my comment)

Chauncey, I'm just going by what I saw in the video and my impressions of the guy. I strongly disliked him and I felt he was of bad character. From doing a little additional reading, I learned that he was obsessed with diets and obesity, and decided to open a "food porn" place that would show up the grotesqueness of obesity by being "over the top" in that exact way. I find that distasteful.

I should add that on re-watching the video, I got less of an ideological/SJW vibe from him, and more one of a sweaty hard-charging operator, possibly a low-level white collar criminal. That's no bargain, but it's much better than my initial impression, LOL.

If I'm going to eat fries I would much rather have them fried in a natural fat like Lard, it's a much healthier option. Industrial seed oils are nasty, especially in deep frying where they are used over and over, saturated fat is much more stable.

This man is awesome.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

I want to say "Let them kill themselves - Survival of the fittest" but who is going to pay their medical bills at the end of the day?

That's what bothers me. This whole "What I do with my body is my decision" entitled, cocky attitude. That makes no sense when we live under a pre-universal/unified healthcare system.

"It doesn't affect you, it only affects me." Bullshit. Your proud irresponsible decisions affect everyone in a negative way, making you a walking burden.

This is a pretty dumb line of reasoning. If that's your logic, is there anything at all the government can't ban?
"You drink too much, and you're at heavy risk of liver disease. You're affecting everyone in a negative way, making you a walking burden. We're taking your beer away."
"You're having way too much unprotected sex, putting you at risk of all kinds of diseases. Not only that, you could be spreading these diseases to others. You're affecting everyone in a negative way, making you a walking burden. No more pick-up artistry for you, buddy."
"You're doing way too many squats at the gym. It's only a matter of time before you blow out your knees and insurance has to pay for your surgery and physical therapy. You're affecting everyone in a negative way, making you a walking burden. Put down the barbell and get your ass back to aerobics class."
"Your car is 5 years old, and it doesn't have the newest safety features. If you get in an accident we'll have to pay for your rehab. You're affecting everyone in a negative way, making you a walking burden. You're taking the bus from now on."

Come on man, if you're posting on this forum you're smarter than that.
