Whilst I've written one or two basic articles on that subject over the years, it's not the topic that I've ever even remotely tried to claim to be an "authority" in.

As anyone who's ever read my books already knows. As anyone who even takes a cursory glance at my website knows.

I focus on other subjects, issues, and topics.

So obviously this person's criticisms are not based on good faith, and are not based on informed understanding.

This whole little amusing incident ties well into one of the points of my podcast, about how haters and dorks will try to impose their own frames on you.

And will try to sling mud to cover up their own inadequacies and failures.

This was my first thought exactly. I've never seen QC try to put himself out there as a seduction expert. Just glance at his blog and what's the usual manosphere topic that is specifically not listed in the categories? Take a quick breeze through his articles.

And you certainly don't have to be a self-proclaimed Casanova with a couple 9s hanging on your arm to discuss masculinity (or even issues concerning marriage, dating, and women). In fact, I'd argue that such a character, while admirable in his own ways, would be a poor choice of person to turn to for your advice on masculinity for the simple reason that he lives his life at the extremes and lacks the balance that makes for a truly healthy man.

As others have said, it's a class-less topic to begin with - do you call out men you respect and like in real life on your opinion of the women they date? Or bring her up as a substantial conversation topic with your other pals? Of course you don't.

But regardless, she looks young, cute, and feminine to me. As we discuss in the manosphere often, there's a lot of wisdom in dating a girl who is pretty and knows how to carry herself and act rather than going all out trying to maximize looks at the expense of all else.

From the little I can gather from the pics, QC looks like he is enjoying his life and living it on his terms. I see the type of guy I would likely end up having a long conversation with if we bumped into each other somewhere around the world. Over the years, I've learned the true men of character are the unassuming, intelligent-looking guys who you can tell know a thing or two but don't wear it like a chip on their shoulder.

And let's keep this on planet Earth - if I found myself having a brew with such a guy, I certainly wouldn't second guess him having that particular girl on his arm.

Agree that he's not "doughy," either - he has as an able, capable look about him that I would want in my corner if shit suddenly hit the fan. Has ex-military written all over him.

Lance Blastoff, any time you have to write something like "I mean no disrespect," "No offense," or "I am aware of how much off dick I am being" before you say something, it's a good idea to seriously consider whether it needs saying at all. Surely we've all been guilty of not doing that at times, but in this case you really botched it.

If you have more to bring to the table for guys in your age group than you think QC is qualified to offer, by all means, add your voice to the conversation.

What started as a great topic stemming from the wise and knowledgeable QC's observations of growing older as a man have turned into a bunch of critics nitpicking his instagram pics and his girl. Lots of gossip and catty behavior lately on the RFV for being a community of men.

I don't believe Quintus needs a cheerleader so I'm not going to defend, just note that some of the comments being thrown in this thread are pretty base, shallow, ignorant, and tasteless.

To speak on the OP: this is a topic I have been curious about lately and it's great to hear someone talk on it; especially someone as wise, experienced, and well traveled as QC. I'm close to being 30 and I decided a couple of years ago that I look forward to growing older and do not believe that my 20's are my best years. A lot of what was said kind of reaffirms my beliefs, and a lot of what was said was news to me. I also believe that as one gets older your personal and individual tastes become more evolved, defined, and developed.

Many older people I have talked to voice that your priorities change as you age and you get a clearer view of what is actually important and really adds value to your life. I am trying to get a head start on this and look forward to further developing this in coming years.

And might I briefly say, that I don't talk about how my friends or their girlfriends look unless I have some particular piece of constructive criticism to offer to them directly. Or if they just bought a snazzy new outfit.

Now as to the topic of this tread, I greatly appreciated his 7 points (thanks for summarizing them, PolymathGuru); I find in myself that I'm becoming increasingly focused on a tighter circle whom I care about, and I'm dropping any pretensions of saving the world from itself. With my writing and YouTubing I can offer useful insights and heuristics to those who are willing to listen, but the wide mass of society is going to do what it's going to do, no matter how much sense I speak. Thus, I'm looking more at my bottom line. What do I want out of life? What will provide me fulfillment, as opposed to empty ego-validation?

I still find myself caring about the world at large more often than I'd care to admit, but more and more I'm focusing on creating the 'society hacking' tools needed for the small number who want to listen, and (when I have them) for my own children. I want to ensure that they'll have the best shot in life, a combination of legacy and companions as they grow up. A loving wife who'll support me as I support her. Interesting places and company, and a home that's a bastion of tranquility.

And it just occurs to me that my greatest accomplishments - the ones that I am unequivocally satisfied with - have making small differences in the lives of individuals. Not big differences in society, or art, or whatever. If I can get a few more of those under my belt, and continue to live a life I enjoy, I'll consider that a major accomplishment.

QC's podcast is worth listening to, and I am his age. This guy is dropping some wisdom gained from life experience.

He has a slow, academic speaking style, so kudos to polymath for the Cliff Notes above but I do recommend the podcast.

I skimmed QC's other podcast topics and most don't appeal to me but if I saw a topic of interest I would certainly listen to QC's thoughts.

I think the most important things from the podcast for younger guys is to stay in shape while young and instill healthy habits - training, sleep, nutrition, moderate or cut out alcohol and drugs - and to continue to expose yourself to great works of art and literature even if they don't click now because you'll appreciate their deeper meaning later in life.
